I used to be on that set-it-and-forget-it wagon. But I've changed my mindset over the years, sometimes it's simply a wiser play to lock in your profits if you know a drop is coming.

The drop may come in a few months or in a year, but it's inevitable. So what I did a few months ago was lock in my profits and slowly buying back in.

The only holdings I didn't dump were my dividend holdings.

Equities aren't increasing in value with 8% interest rates on debt. You'll find out soon, everything is wildly overvalued, and a person with $1M can easily 10x that by buying puts 6 months out right now.

The US Government has to come out with a new budget in November, and this will cut spending to a ton of different programs. This is when the real dump will occur.

You can earn 10x your money by learning how to properly buy and sell before market drops. This separates the upper class from the wagies.

people have always been trying to time the market and it doesn't work for 99%. but yeah i can see locking in profits if it means locking in making your life easier by paying off debts...then buy back in slowly because you have no worries with no debt.

I keep it simple:

If I reach a certain gains level that I like, and if my gut feeling says there's some volatility is on the horizon, I'll just take my profits and slowly start buying back in.

IMHO, it's the wiser play. I've known people who's portfolios dropped just before they were about to retire. You just can't always rely on set-it-and-forget-it.

Someone is doing a lot of stock selling of late. As I read last night, maybe with middle east tensions some are selling their stocks over fears of future sanctions. What ever is going on, looking forward to when stocks reverse course. Tech company earnings have been good.

I don't time, I just go on gut feeling. If I'm at a certain profit level, I'll take the profit. And when I say slowly buying back in, I meanSLOWLY... I'll buy a dozen shares at a time over the course of months until the drop happens, then I buy in larger quantities.

You're supposed to take the number 120 minus your age. That is the amount to have in stocks. That way, as you get closer to retirement, you recalibrate so this doesn't happne.

You buy Bonds for the Yield. If those provided enough Yield to get him through the rest of life, who cares about the value.

Not a wage slave, don't hate my job, work from home, low cost of living area, making 6 figures, saving & investing 3k/month, no debt other than 2.6% IR mortgage that's less than 15% of my monthly take home.

Some of us are happy with our career choices and where we are in life. Thanks for your advise though sweetie.

I am the biggest doombear on misc, but I think SPY is more likely to bounce up after taking a beating than it is to just keep chasing straight down.

Long term, we're going well under SPY $400. Next week, I don't know man.

Doesn't O mostly have commercial real estate under their management?

I personally hesitate to put money into commercial real estate, especially during these times.

This isn't actually a bad time to have started the 401k. Would have been worse starting December of 2021 or July of this year. Starting it now and you're relatively in the same position as someone who started theirs in April 2021

Besides, the main advantages to a 401k are the tax advantages which you're still getting. By the time you can pull from the 401k without penalty none of this sh*t happening now will even matter.

Gold crew. I'm doing just fine boyos seeing that gold price shoot up.

I thought the market would start making bigger moves down by now, but I always have to tell myself how manipulated the market is. It's completely its own entity and is completely propped up.
