Funny...you see 300k, you think I actually receive that. My tax rate is basically 40%. So the government takes basically half of the 300k. Then at the end of the tax year, they tell me that I owe more.

did you not see my post? It should net you around $16k minus your retirement contributions. I live in the most expensive state in the country, and those numbers would give you a great lifestyle. In Boston? I would think your mortgage payment is probably bonkers or you have other expenses

If you are making 300K per year and are living check to check you should consult Dave Ramsey and figure out your finances. Hell, just listening to his youtube/him on the radio and paying attention to his advice is enough.

The strategy is simple. Minimize your expenses. Pay off all your debts. Continue to scale income while keeping expenses minimal. If possible, reduce expenses. Build a savings and pay for items cash. Invest consistently.

I live extremely comfortable with a budget of $2.5k per month for all of my living expenses. The rest of my income goes to investments/fun. Consistently scaling income/investments while keeping monthly expenses flat year after year... When you set your finances/life up right its just incredible easy.




I know people think Dave is stupid but I'll be retired with my millions and on chill mode in about 8-10 years. All because I followed his financial advice in my early 20s.

Even trying to get a half cow with my dad is a nightmare. Everyone has a huge backlist, the prices have skyrocketed and I'm about to just eat only on sale grass fed ground beef. Nothing else. Chicken isn't worth it anymore for non-frankenstein hormone chicken.

I'm really really annoyed at these prices. I can afford to eat it, but I shouldn't be spending $600+ dollars a month on groceries because of it.

You need to find grocery stores that run sales and shop the sales. I rotate out between three different ones (Rouses, Albertsons & Super 1). Between the three there is 0 reason why I can't find chicken or pork for $1.99-3.99/lb depending on bone in/cuts. Regular beef for $4.99-6.99/lb. Steaks (New York, T Bone and Ribeye) anywhere from $8.99-9.99/lb. If you have a Costco nearby you can get ground Bison 3lb pack for $21.00.



I have a house and literally all of the local grocery stores mail me sales papers so its easy. If you don't get those in the mail you've got a bit more work to do. Also if you are willing to use coupons you can get insane deals at other stores as well for all sorts of household products.

The only way to do it imo is to move out of cities. I make less than half and still able to put at least a 1000 a week into savings.

Lol, yeah I get it. I actually stopped cooking entirely and now just eat at Chipotle(or another Thai place that's like $15 for a huge stir fry) every day as my main meal. I figure that $13-15 per day on food plus a few snacks at home is better than buying a bunch of $8/lb meat that I actually have to cook and clean up after.

It still evens itself out because when you don't live in the cities there aren't many high paying jobs available....unless youre remote and those are slowly going away.

On Thursday morning, Cornell spoke with CNBC's Becky Quick on 'Squawk Box' about the retailer's challenges, including the cash crunch facing consumers amid high inflation. He provides a unique insight into consumer behavior patterns at stores nationwide:

"They're managing that budget really carefully, and it certainly is pressuring discretionary spending," Cornell said.

The exec continued: "They're purchasing fewer items, even within the food and beverage sector. When we examine overall retail spending and observe the top line, it appears there's a really healthy consumer out there spending money. But, even in the food and beverage categories, over the last few quarters, we've seen a decline in the units, the number of items they're buying."

"So, they're even tightening up their spending in those categories.In discretionary goods, we have seen seven consecutive quarters of decline in both dollars and units.This means consumers are buying less apparel, fewer items for their home, and fewer toys," he said.

It's actually not hard to believe, especially if he owns a home. That's $150k after income taxes, and if he has a $1M home, it probably has $5k per month payments and another $2-3k per month in property taxes. Now you're at $7k, and if he has a family with 2 car payments and is contributing to 401k the rest of the other costs will easily eat that up.

Yea they have deals and my boomer/gen x coworkers obsess over deals. But I have one issue with it. I only buy quality meat. Grass fed/grass finished for most beef. I'll buy regular steaks if they have a good price. Yesterday I also grabbed the last two delmonico steaks on sale for example. Same with chicken. I only get pasture raised organic if I get it. Only get uncured bacon. I've accepted paying more for these foods, but the issue now is that more people are wanting quality meat so the price is surging up. I was fine buying meat from the farm I get my eggs and dairy from, but everything has gotten absurd because demand has probably doubled.

I will take your advice though and do much better sale shopping. I have two more grocery stores I can easily hit but never get the deals for them since they are by my work. I'd do Jewel by me but it their meat literally tastes like dead water.

Yea I'm fine with cooking and cleaning now and prefer it just for my gut health. I just feel better. I also enjoy cooking though. There are times I just want to eat twice a day only though and just get chipotle or something easy.

Can confirm. Even amazon has less going out. I was talking to my fedex driver that does my place, a few others, and amazon daily. They went from bringing in 5 loads to 12 loads of product to prep for the holiday rush, but the outgoing is not keeping up with past years. We are way slower right now than past years. Everywhere is. Noticeably.

I just got in so much fukking product and am basically out of room in the warehouse and we are barely fukking selling what we need to sell for what we are bringing in. People are finally starting to choke their spending habits.

I made 20k last year and rent in san diego. I budget my money and dont waste it. Would have been a bit more comfortable had it been closer to 25k but its not the end of the world. No wife or kids to pay for.

There's your issue. You can't even afford to piss money away, hence this thread, but the thing you're missing from this thread is that poorer people can understand 'necessity'. At least some do, that's how they grind up.

Also if you make 300000 a year you aren’t struggling. I was working at yellow before they closed and they gave us all the overtime we wanted so I racked up every weekend. Thought I had it made but they shut down. Ever since then I have 2 part time jobs and I have perfect attendance at both so I still get 50 hours a week. I also use credit cards to buy stuff and just balance it off so my money won’t drop. Had an interview for a job paying 27 an hour with bedtime this week and the guy even told me no need for an interview man you got the job and then a guy above him said they didn’t want to hire me. Think it’s cuz of my Russian last name. I get a lot of hate. Strange thing is the only people who don’t discriminate against me are black peoples lmao
