"oh chatGPT isn't a genius, it can't do (insert advanced math), it won't replace anyone's job" ... I mean... what.
No, you're being far too acute and focused on calculus.

The point is; chat gpt has a lot of holes, and the fact it cant do very simple calculus, which A.I is perfect for, shows that.

It is exactly built to do calculus, and it's literally the most simple calculus one can do, if majority of people were shown how to do it; they could do it. It's a subtraction, and then a multiplication. It is not 'advanced math'. The reason most people can't do it, is cos they've never bothered, not because it's hard.

I think what majority of people don't understand is, even in the most mundane jobs we often make decisions we take for granted that are very 'human' and difficult for A.I to replicate it. Saying chat gpt can do this and that in principle, and actually implementing A.I to do the jobs in real life, are two very, very different things... even after this step, there's years before mass adoption. I've seen it throughout my decade+ long career in this literal field.

Again, you're entitled to your opinion but it's a little dumb to tell me i'm being 'ridiculous' when you're reading my post far too acutely. Ultimately, you're still a student in the field, but apparently you know everything.

And in the OP I said,

"they will fire 6 office workers and replace them with 2 people who know how to use AI features effectively. Each one will be able to EASILY take on the workload with the use of AI."

Clearly showing that we will still need humans who can oversee the work, but there will be 2 accountants instead of 6 accountants(example)

At no point did I say the AI will do it all by itself, I clearly said we will still need overseers, but the AMOUNT of employees will be reduced drastically

Did you even understand my post??? 11 years in software dev and you don't pay attention to details or what?

I fully understand, you're not reading what i'm saying.

I'm saying the scenario you envisage in the OP is at least a decade away. There's too many parts of everyday human tasks you take for granted that A.I is still hopeless at.

Unfortunately, your arrogant attitude won't allow you to even attempt to grasp what i'm saying, rather just attempt to insult me, so i'm out. Keep thinking you know everything in a field you're not even qualified in yet.

I, mean. I clearly said we would need a few humans to oversee it. But the amount of employees would be reduced, with the few remaining simply checking for errors and fixing what needs to be fixed, aka "human decisions"

brah, just take the L

you **** on chatGPT's capabilities because it can't do advanced math (lol)
then you rant about AI can't replace human decisions, which I already covered in my OP and you didn't pay attention to. I never said AI would replace everyone, I clearly said AI would reduce the amount of busy workers, and the AI's work would be overseen by a small amount of workers to make sure it's right.

For a start, the fact you're reducing a discussion about a tentative technology as 'W' and 'L' rather than a discussion, shows what a juvenile mentality you have over the whole thing.

Secondly, again, as i stated, i think you're misinformed and the scenario you outline in the OP (i.e swapping 6 employees for 2 in an office environment) is at least a decade away. There's no 'L'

Just saw your edit

You're now strawmanning me, i never chastised it for not being able to do 'advanced math', but very simple math. There's utterly no point continuing this discussion with someone who's going to strawman every argument i make. You also specifically said 6 to 2, not just a reduction, the metrics matter big time. If an office can reduce from 6 to 5, for example, that is NOT the same as reducing from 6 to 2, yet you're presenting it as if it's the exact same argument. I specifically stated the scenario in the OP will not happen for at least a decade, i never denied there might be some reduction... i denied the exodus you present in the OP is 2-3 years away.

I'm done

While there may be some debate as to how quickly businesses will adapt the new technology, that's a valid point

All it takes is for one big company, or successful company to implement it, seeing their stock price soar.... and they appear on the news channels being praised for their embracing of new tech and their savings in labor, increased efficiency etc.. and everyone else will copy them, and it will happen quick

maybe i could be wrong in 3 years from now, and maybe its 7-10, but its coming regardless

The reason I say 2-3 yrs from now, is because the tech is evolving so rapidly, it's already ready to do much of the basic office work for companies right now. I can only imagine what will happen in 2-3 yrs from now

But if too many people are let go/unemployed, there won't be enough consumers to buy products/goods/services thereby severely reducing companies' profits and tax base for the Federal government.

https://nypost.com/2023/07/13/dukaan...of-ai-chatbot/

CEO fires 90% of customer support staff because AI chatbot outperforms them

Published July 13, 2023, 3:22 p.m. ET

Heading up Dukaan’s artificial intelligence efforts is Ojasvi Yadav, according to Shah’s Twitter thread, which has been viewed more than 2 million times since it was posted.

“This kid is ahead of the pack when it comes to AI,” Shah wrote, noting that Yadav came up with a “working demo” of an in-house AI chatbot for Dukaan in just one day.

“The bot was answering almost all common questions about Dukaan instantly & accurately,” the chief executive said, noting that “answers fell short” on “account-specific questions like ‘why has my payout been pending for 2 days?'”

Just 24 hours later, Yasav “came up with another demo” that fixed glitches related to account-specific questions.

The bot was then named Lina and was integrated into the site.

“We had to layoff 90% of our support team because of this AI chatbot. Tough? Yes. Necessary? Absolutely,” he wrote.

He added that the tech made response times on Dukaan go from one minute and 44 seconds “to INSTANT!”

Shah also shared that the AI chatbot took about three minutes to respond to customers’ queries, while his team of humans took more than two hours.

Kinda like people who say EV's are going to take over by 2030 even though we won't have a power grid to support or the minerals needed to produce them...

lol at thinking that 80% of the companies are going to pay, let alone be able to afford these tech's.

The company I work for is hiring people from India instead of replacing people when they leave........that's the opposite of using AI.

AaaS (automation as a service) will become a market to serve smaller businesses who can't afford to develop it on their own

same as SaaS (software as a service), is already a huge market, SaaS provides software services to smaller businesses that wouldn't be able to afford to develop their software needs in house

quick google :

The global software as a service (SaaS) market size was valued at USD 261.15 billion in 2022 and is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13.7% from 2023 to 2030.

AaaS is going to be similar.

Nah. Anyone who has used chatGPT extensively can tell you it's not what it's hyped to me. The more you use it, the more you realize it's severe limitations and the less enamored with it you are.

Plus with the Biden admin's new EO to effectively neuter AI, our jobs will be safer for more than the next 2-3 years

I'd like to think my job was kind of immune to it (cyber security). But I admit it's not. If the AI is smart enough to know the corporate environment, corporate policies, look up relevant logs (via API calls), have access to perform security response and procedures, it could outpace most security employees unfortunately. You'd think it would be difficult to apply AI to replace jobs for a technical industry... but it turns out it's more difficult to fathom industries which are AI immune.

The smartest thing you can do right now, is to:

1) Be among the best of your colleagues
2) Update your resume, and acquire certifications to stay ahead of others
3) Optimize your personal finances (pay off debts, maintain hefty emergency funds and investment strategies)
4) Work on other sources of income

You keep thinking that meanwhile companies have been hiring useless positions for 50+ years and still replace them when folks retire/quit from them.

Right now it's only the beginning. We can't even imagine what there maybe in 5 - 10 more years. There's a good chance it will replace a lot of mid lvl jobs.
