Inflation is a measure of the change in price. So if the change in price is lower one period to the next, inflation has come down.

Do I need to give a remedial economics class in the sub filled with Trump worshipers?

I think they just can't recognize the cause and effect. It's a nasty cycle. And a lot of it has to do with the fact that Keynesian economicscanwork, but you have to do the full cycle, which includes governments cutting back on spending when the economy has improved. Politicians don't want to do that hard part because it puts their own job at risk, so they don't cut back, which makes things worse in the long run and ends up being a major cause of the next bust cycle.

It's a similar story with the Federal Reserve. Cut rates to near zero when the Great Recession hit. Cool. But then they kept rates near zero for many years after the economy was in recovery because they didn't want to pull the training wheels off. That led to all sorts of the problems today.

Strawman.
People understand what disinflation is. People are still upset about the high inflation period. Inflation is still happening, merely at a slower pace than it was before. And what's vital is that the government lies about inflation because they've changed how they calculate it several times, to make it seem lower than it really is. A government conspiracy? Yes, and it's not a theory, it's a fact. If the government calculated inflation the same way it did before 1980 then inflation in 2022 was 15-18%, while they reported it as peaking at 9%.

The government doesn't do these manipulations just to have pleasing headlines and to tell people things aren't as bad as they are. It's a manipulated calculation that's been done twice. Once in 1980, once in the early 1990s. Who is President, it doesn't matter. The reason? Social Security. If the government gave retirees true cost of living increases Social Security would have gone bankrupt awhile ago. Imagine what SS spending would be today if in 2019 retirees were given a 4.5% increase, 8% increase in 2021, a 15% increase in 2022. Fuark.

Real inflation was higher than government reports in 2021-22 and people know it. They're still upset about it. Real inflation now is 5-6%, not the 3% the government reports. People see it, they experience it. Yeah it's not the 15-18% it was in 2022 but it's still not great.

"But GDP is still growing at a good pace" used to be the phrasing of neoconservatives when economic inequality was rising. Now the Democrats have adopted that neoconservative clinging to GDP because the Dems are in charge of the federal govt. Look beyond GDP for truth in the economy. Debt is all that's keeping GDP growing, both governmental and personal debt. I wonder what the few people still defending Biden will say if/when the recession hits in 2024. I'll be the first to say it won't be his fault, just like praising him for economic growth 2021-23 wasn't his doing. Gee, states lift business shutdowns and let people go back to work. At the same time Trillions are thrown around. Student loan payments were on freeze since spring 2020. Of course there was economic growth.

The Federal Reserve has way more influence on the economy than the President, but partisans gonna partisan and go with full on retard simplistic talk.

Can none of you cult morons explain how Biden caused inflation to double in less than 3 months? I'm still waiting to hear an educated reply...oh wait, I'm in the wrong place for that.

Back to your fake accusations and name calling. In a year folks will feel much better about the economy, Trump will be a convicted felon, and the world will be back at peace. Well until Trump gets curbstomped again and his deplorable horde turns violent yet again.

Let's hope they're put down this time.

Capitalism causes prices to fall, not rise, so we know that this is not a product of capitalism.

Inflation is the result of an increase in the money supply, which is exacerbated by government spending.

In the words of Milton Friedman "inflation is the result of a society wanting to spend someone else's money."

Oh, so you're saying that suddenly the POTUS isn't actually ultimately responsible for everything that happens under his watch? And it's already been explained ad naseum how Biden's disastrous policies are in fact responsible for the skyrocketing inflation and gas prices. You're free to go back and read past threads that you were laughed out of yourself, old man.

The layman knows little of economics. He doesn’t know how to articulate what exactly is happening. He doesn’t have time nor the ability to try and find direct sources and analyze the data and policies. He used to go to the news to get information, but now he knows that something is amiss with the news. He feels something is wrong. He knows something is wrong, and the news casters aren’t being honest because it just doesn’t make any sense. He certainly knows not the trust what the government is telling him, because what they are saying doesn’t make sense either. He knows we are fighting in two wars now, and he doesn’t understand how we can afford it. He knows that illegals are coming across the border, getting aid from he taxpayers, but yet, we have a homeless problem we can’t solve, and it’s getting worse.

The signs and symptoms of a failing country are all around us.

We can keep blaming Trump, but Trump isn’t in office, so that gets us nowhere. None of Trump’s decisions right now make a difference. What makes a difference are the actions being taken by Biden and the congress.

From an economic standpoint, I’d say the biggest issues we are having is an energy bottleneck as a result of climate policies, government spending, and the diversion of resources and wealth for war.

High energy costs can have an inflationary impact on all products because energy is required for everything, from manufacturing to transportation. Energy is required for everything. When inflation pushes prices up, the manufacturers begin to produce less, then they can’t meet demand. This is a bottleneck.

Wartime spending causes a diversion of scarce resources with alternative uses. What this does is it diverts resources from the wants and needs of the consumers and moves them to wartime efforts. This causes the GDP fallacy that GDP is an indication of a strong economy. Military and wartime spending causes increases in GDP, but much of that isn’t the result of producing what consumers need. The money also didn’t go towards companies that make things we need, instead they went to the MIC. This causes a loss of wealth. So GDP goes up, wealth goes down for the middle class and poor.

Everything the government spends money on is a loss of wealth. It is inefficient, they don’t do a good risk assessment on the investments, if they do any at all, and it mostly gets spent on things people don’t want or need.

Healthcare is another issue. The commercial private healthcare companies have to pay for the differences that the public healthcare plans don’t pay. In some areas, the private companies are paying 220% of the market prices in order to cover the losses that hospitals and doctors accrue from what public healthcare isn’t paying. In many areas, these hospitals and offices have gone out of business, taking the local economies with them, because the private healthcare companies don’t want to take on the burden of paying for the public healthcare in those areas. Why is this relevant? Biden was just bragging about how many thousands of additional people were on public healthcare/welfare, weighing heavily on an already breaking system.

Haven't even started on the fed yet...

I could go on and on, but yes, this is most Def Biden at this point. Congress plays a big role too, constantly funding wars, aid, out of control spending, CRs, Omnibus bills, which both lead to corrupt and irresponsible spending…

Biden’s economic improvement data is all based on the recovery from COVID lockdowns. So had Biden been for a free market, we would have had a correction and been well on our way to being close to fully recovered. A free market is resilient, as long as it stays free.

The irony of "Back to your fake accusations and name calling" is laughable. See the post right above yours where I wrote:

At the same time Trillions are thrown around. Student loan payments were on freeze since spring 2020. Of course there was economic growth.

The Federal Reserve has way more influence on the economy than the President, but partisans gonna partisan and go with full on retard simplistic talk."

Truthfully most of the inflation was because of the Federal Reserve opening up the floodgates. The "American Rescue Plan" was frankly not needed when it was signed. Schools were reopening in January-February 2021, some businesses wereallowed(don't get me started on that) to reopen months earlier, basically all were reopened by the time the American Rescue Plan was signed. A lot of what was in it was needed in 2020, so having it in 2021 and some of it taking effect in 2022 was just nuts. Imagine the whole country was starved for awhile, then getting back to eating normal and gaining healthy weight back, and one day when everyone gets home there are twenty gallons of ice cream in a new freezer in the kitchen, a couple of kegs, and 1000 servings of their favorite cheat food. Fuark, of course people are going to put some bad weight on now.

Was the inflation all Biden's fault? No, that's retard talk. Was it Trump's fault. Again, retard talk. In case everyone forgot Congress creates spending bills. If Trump were President in 2022 inflation might have been 1 percent lower. The inflation: Congress, the Federal Reserve.

Back to your fake accusations and name calling. In a year folks will feel much better about the economy, Trump will be a convicted felon, and the world will be back at peace. Well until Trump gets curbstomped again and his deplorable horde turns violent yet again.

Let's hope they're put down this time.
I see you haven't changed a bit.

Very well said.
