I think a lot of this is just normalization of the tech industry.

For the last 15 years software engineers could demand $150k+ salaries out of college while mechanical or electrical engineers were lucky to get $80k.

This was sustained by the massive growth of the tech industry, but that's mostly over now.

And we're seeing that there really aren't any barriers to entry in those software jobs, at least nothing another engineer can't do.

Expecting to make $150k+ WFH 6 hours a day at the bottom of the org chart was always too good to be true, it's just coming back to reality.

Mechanical Engineers are lucky to even get to 110-120K.

Didn't get to 150K until went into Project Management.

My dad had to take another less paying job around that timeframe.. I think in that market it was def tougher than it is now

I decided to join the military around that timeframe cause I was seeing nothing in terms of a long standing career

Just saw a post by a Software Engineer with 20 years experience, last 10 years as a Software Engineer manager that hasn't found a job in 6 months.

Guess he's "worthless", in any non fkd up market he would have 5 offers in hand.

Apparently so if he can't get a job when there's record low unemployment

If you have to leave a salty neg and posit an impotent strawman like this to try to argue against reality you might as well just take the L, brah.

Myself and everyone I know are gainfully employed and still routinely have recruiters reaching out. Maybe if you had made better choices in life you'd be more valuable.

lol, yeah because if I can see the experience of others and what's happening in the market, that doesn't happen in hot markets, it must mean I'm not employed.

Great logic here, bro.

Others are thriving while you're whining. Your failures and financial insecurity are your own fault, brah; not the job market's.
