I recently went no contact on one of my lifelong best friends for this exact reason. It sucks and is a tough thing to do, but things just were becoming way too toxic with every interaction. He used to be an awesome reasonable person, but I can tell his mentors are turning him into this manipulative nasty person and it's just not something I have any interst in dealing with in a voluntarily relationship.

He's in his late 30s. It's one of those situations where this guy is kinda guiding his career and he has made good progress overall, but the mentor guy is turning into this nasty controlling old person and it's beginning to rub off on him now.

I'm happy to resume contact at some point in the future if he realizes how his behavior is chitty and comes back to reality. Hopefully he snaps out of it and realizes how toxic he is becoming.

Your old buddy sounds like a douchebag I'd have been done with for good a long time ago. I get your mentality about "keeping the door open" so to speak, but I also think life is too short to hold onto people who don't put any effort into you. I've let multiple longtime buddies drift away that way, guys who at one time I figured I'd be lifelong friends with.

Thats real sad, not having worthy role models. I remember I was into Power Rangers and the like, so I wanted to learn to fight or look like I know how to. At least you're pretending to do something useful.

They idolize makeup influencers and want to do beauty treatments and want to do moisturizing routines. Lame. Girls are lame.

Little girls have always look up to the mom, wearing play makeup, playing with dolls, wearing plastic high heels...but now people have an excessive amount of $$ to spend on the real stuff for their kids and they want their girls to fit in so they buy them Drunk Elephant and other high end brands to fit in with the other girls. That's all the girl in the OP was doing...laying out all the things she got her mom to buy her. But she did not do it in a chill way, but a showy way so it backfired on her. Like I said, girls are little b*tches but their moms are probably big b*tches they have learned from.
