People in Tokyo are more polite in general but colder and more distant on the inside.

People in Osaka are just the opposite, rude in general but warm and more intimate on the inside.

If you are a people person then Osaka is the city for you.

People in Tokyo versus Osaka

There are two common stereotypes associated with the people of Tokyo and Osaka.

The people of Tokyo are often believed to be quiet, shy, and always in too much of a hurry to help others.

On the contrary, people in Osaka are said to be bold, helpful, and not afraid to speak their minds.

Very expensive, no one speaks English, and Tokyo is overwhelmingly big and identical to New York in some places, in a bad way.

But overall a great interesting place to visit, the food and landscape/culture are amazing. Everyone's super polite and tries to help even though they don't speak the same language, they keep to themselves, don't bother unless bothered, etc.

The Japanese sloots I saw were handcuffed to their men, like arm in arm, 1950s housewife style. Really feminine, even some Yakuza brahs and they had the cream of the crop over there, the only tall Japanese women I saw were with the Yakuzas, who were also mogging the other Japanese men in height/looks.

Been there 5 times, 6th coming this year! Love everything about it honestly. Always an adventure, amazing food, nice/respectful people. You literally can't have a bad time when visiting Japan <3

I will say that after a few trips I finally got to visit Osaka and it's my favorite major city by far. Just has a more lowkey chill feel to it IMO

Okinawa is great and definitely recommend it; cycling is wonderful especially in the North which has very little traffic and some wicked hills to climb!

Three years in Yamaguchi Pref was really nice and it's close to a gem of a town in Tsuwano (Shimane). Kintaikyo and the Spring Festival is unbelievably crowded. Also have to feed the deer in Miyajima and catch the Carp play a game!

Fussa was my least favorite place to live in Japan but was only there for a year and at least it was easy to see Tokyo...

Best places that I visited were Sendai (Date Masemune) and Hokkaido!

My Uncle married a Japanese girl - they had 2 ceremonies, one in the UK and another in Japan. The Japanese one was a full on traditional version with all the changes of kimono etc - I like the respect for tradition that is part of Japanese culture and wish the west would learn from the example.

It's a bucket list destination, I want to see some of the more outlying natural areas as well as visit Hokkaido to get some fishing done.

Spent six months living there with my gf on a cultural visa, She was from Aichi, Nagoya so spent most my time there, but I also visited Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo.
My fav things in JP are so many, but loved going to the izakayas, folk villages and traditional ryokans.(Fond memories of Takayama) Also I loved how the past meets the present, just walking down the street next to a modern skyscraper might be a centuries old temple
Things I didn't like about Japan? Breaking up with my gf lol

I went to Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka. Day trips to Nara and Himeji. It was around 5 years ago now.

I really enjoyed it. People always talk about how technologically advance Japan is but I think that was more relevant 20 years ago. Also things like their train system always running on time is not just because of technology but also the people are very orderly. That's how I would describe both the country and people - orderly. It was probably a touch more western than I had hoped for but in retrospect to be expected and I mostly did my own thing so probably missed a bunch of stuff. A lot of the cities and smaller towns actually felt really quiet outside of business hours.

Food was elite all round, some of the best in the world. Even the western food was very good.

I would recommend it as a holiday, super easy to get around and you can see a lot in 10 days - 2 weeks. You don't need the language to get around, most hotels/hostels and a lot of restaurants will speak English - regardless you have google translate.

I still follow a couple of Japanese related podcasts so it's somewhere I still think about and follow a bit. I used to have an S14 silvia too and liked drifting so I really dun goofed but not going to see any. Never cared for anime, never understood the appeal.

Been to Kyoto twice. Itโ€™s obviously got a ton of history, and itโ€™s beautiful, but โ€ฆ honestly โ€ฆ the temples all start to look the same. The castle in Osaka blew my mind though - as did the modern aquarium.

My second time out of the country not including Canada was in Osaka. What a culture shock that was. Japan quickly became my favorite country. Iโ€™m trying to go back again in April. One of my favorite things to do is crush a few strong zeros and just go stumble down the alleys and see what I find.
