I recall my parents not wanting to send me to that school because they didn't want me to take the public buses through bad parts of town as a kid. Went to a school with the classic yellow buses. Still have a fond attachment to those. It was a little world on its own.
There are buses. My point is that likely 80% of the kids live within the block of the school.... So seeing a hundred+ cars commute a quarter mile is absurd. Virtually no one is walking from the school. The parents could easily walk to retrieve their kids, but they don't. Gotta keep the obesity thing going, I guess.

Oh and for those wondering about the weather in Phoenix this week, we have highs 71f-78f all week, lows 48f-54f, no rain.... This morning is beautiful. Still saw some NPC mom drop her kid off at the bus stop tho.

Don't be surprised when your son turns out trans. Maybe those 200ft bus stop commutes weren't setting him up for success.

Do your schools have choice? Where you can apply to send your kid to a school not in your district? They may not live right there.

OK gramps.

I grew up walking to school or riding the bus too.

I live in az. There aren't 200 parents shuttling their kids in a model Y from the ghetto to one elementary school. We literally have a miscer admitting he drives his kids 200 feet to the bus stop in his cul de sac.

But yeah, keep acting like there are millions of exceptions that fit a very specific mold.

The reality : mental health and physical health is in the sewer in the USA among youth.... Driving them to the bus stop isn't a solution.

They don't have to be coming from the ghetto. Here in the suburbs people choice their kids into different suburban schools for whatever reason.

You also haven't mentioned the ages of these kids being driven. Things are not the same nowadays as they were when I went to school and walking a block or 2 to a bus stop was no big thing. Back then the kids in the neighborhood all went to the same schools with a couple going to private. So you weren't by yourself walking on roads. We were in groups when very young. There were also bus stops every couple blocks in the neighborhood. Now it seems the bus stops are at the outside of the neighborhood on main roads.

Don't care if someone considers it overprotective, I wouldn't be sending my 5 year old out to walk blocks down the street by themself.

TBF, I walked to the bus stop all the time in Middle School and High School, I actually enjoyed it. The foggy blue hour mornings were the best.

It's worse than that; the kids don't even walk from their home to the bus stop..... The parents drive the kids from the garage to the bus stop..... A bus stop that you can literally view from a window in your house.

Anything less than 3 or 4 miles and the kids should easily be able to get there themselves when they're 10, maybe 12 years old. The rest just sounds like bad parenting.

Grew up in a semi rural area, and live rural now. In most cases today, busses stop at the house or within a few feet. The only students that have to walk very far are generally within walking distance of the school. The farthest most rural folks have to walk are their long driveways leading up to the house (A lot of these places are on larger properties). I had to walk farther in my suburban hood than most rural students have to walk. Get behind a school bus in the country and you will notice they are stopping within a few feet of each and every house. I think they do this because there are no sidewalks and are often on narrow and/or high speed roads.

As for driving your kid to the bus stop, the only issue I see with it are the opinions of others.

It's worse than that. Around here, you don't even have to walk to a bus stop, they pick you up in front of your house.

Absolutely infuriating when you get stuck behind one and they're stopping at every 300 feet.
