Bridges are like dominoes-we have seen that with prior collisions, earthquakes & hurricanes. Sadly these things have often been built on the cheap & in decades where cargo ships were half the size that they are nowadays-so the impact risk calculations were half or possibly less back then. Plus they are usually badly/not maintained & anything sitting in water for decades is going to rust & weaken if not cared for/repaired/replaced.

the one in Genova didn't bring everything down though, must be the design of the bridge that caused it to cave in its entirety here imo (no engineer though lol)

The Italians are great architects-they usually take over a decade building major bridges. It will probably come out that corners were cut in the 1970's-with the location possibly Mafia involvement & that it wasn't maintained. Most bridges are just ticking time bombs-lucky again it was so early in the morning-imagine if it had been a few hours later during rush hour.

That's not a suspension bridge doofus. Notice all the extra support columns? It wasn't built to cross anywhere near the same distance over a big muddy river. It also had to have clearance for ocean going cargo and cruise ships.

yeah brah I was just surprised:

- they'd built a bridge that collapses if 1 beam is hit

- it didn't happen sooner

It looks like oscillating power on/off and you can see the thick smoke from the ship's stack when it regains power periodically as they are trying to generate large thrust to sharpen the turning radius. Looks like also poor judgement when they regained power they should have opened up the turn and went around that column instead of trying to hairpin that turn to the inside.

How important is that bridge for getting around the city? Like from now on are people pooched that want to get to work or homes over in that area?

Obviously any repair/replacement will take years.

It's not that major of a thru-way. There's a local tunnel and the I-95 tunnel right next to it. Look at a map, it's way outside the city. Really only going to affect people that live way out there in that peninsula. I wonder if they will even rebuild it.

I know. I don’t know much about driving cargo ships but whoever was steering that cargo ship is at fault . A crime Like this deserves a punishment. Accident or not.

Holy**** did not expect this size of a bridge when reading the title.

After seeing Google maps.. it’s the first and longest bridge in Baltimore.

This is going to be one of those events that may trigger or spark some changes in people

Ship lost power twice srs

Inb4 the boat is found out to be owned by a Chinese parent company and it was deliberately rammed into a pretty busy port bridge

What change are you talking about. It’s a bridge…

Literally out of all of the most insane stuff that is going on in the world and the clear collapse of society in the west, a bridge is supposed to spark changes?

On this vid you can see a number of vehicles crossing the bridge before collapse but it actually looks like there weren't many/any on it when it collapsed.

There are different size ships and they are very tall actually but through ballast control they can sink very low in the water, sure maybe a super huge ship would not be allowed near that bridge, if it were my guess there was a loss of control on the ship
