No doubt. Cheesers ruin the fun. Rather lose a fun back and fourth game with lots of action than win glitchmaxing, but it seems that a minority pov

Try out Witcher 3, and Skyrim. Older games but real good one. The older I get the less I want to play multiplayer.
Though right now I’m playing world of warships. It’s free to play. And fairly simple.

I've always been a solo gamer, so that's what I tend to focus on and enjoy. Only recent group game I got into is Helldivers 2.

Try different games. There's so many options out there.

Just to give samples from different genres: Hades if you like solo run-through games that are more arcade like. Lies of P if you like challenging Souls type games. Sleeping Dogs if you like GTA style quest based stuff. Etc, etc.

yeah i cant keep up with the try hards on multiplayer anymore. thats why i been trying all these single player games but their hard af too. i eventually have to put them on easy/story mode lol. i beat skyrim way back and i beat witcher 2 which i remember being awesome but isnt witcher 3 like a 50/60 hour game? i dont got time for that

NGL I feel similar OP.

Never played a From Software game without having to use a guide.

As far as FPS multiplayer games, I can have actually impressive games that make people comment positively 70% of the time, but the other 30% it's like I gave a controller to a toddler, never consistently good these days. This mostly applies to twitch shooters where you die in a couple of seconds, if it's a bit more on the bulletsponge side I can strategize better and perform better.

Played tens of thousands of hours worth of MMOs in my life, yet I refuse to pursue PvP in them seriously, I know I'd just get too frustrated or neglect important meta gaming mechanics.

I've gotten to the end game in a lot of ARPGs but never finished the pinnacle bosses and never got anywhere close to a fully decked out build.

One thing about some games though, is the player chooses the difficulty. If you do research, follow guides, play the meta strategies/builds, use optimal peripherals, and throw enough hours into it, you'll be in the top 25%. It's that cutting edge top 20% that's full of kids or man-children who don't have jobs and play the game 12 hours a day or more. Their sheer number of hours put into it gives them advantages for what they're able to predict, map memorizations, better unlocks if applicable, etc.

You're not too old, but you should just stay competitive in what you actually care about, and not feel depressed because you lose sometimes especially compared to those with 5x your time played.

Trading card games, single player games, strategy games, and co-op/PVE games should feel accessible to you no matter what. From Software games inclusive due to the guides, but also due to the ability to "over level" yourself for the content ahead by farming.

I played one of the newest games Dragons Dogma 2. Very fun game, challenging and frustrating as crap at the start, but it's as I described before, a situation where you can overlevel and overgear to avoid all mechanics and one shot everything. Some puzzles/quests are particularly tricky though IMO, so for some I recommend guides. Before that I was playing Helldivers 2, picked up a "meta build" and found myself having the same thing as described before for FPS section... 70% good playing ability, 30% terrible dogchit playing.

EDIT:

Another thing too is there's way more cheaters out in the multiplayer competitive gaming world than you'd likely think. In fact, some have gotten caught trying to take it to E-sports matches, and Twitch live streams as well. Escape from Tarkov is a great example of a game that was exposed for having a very large cheating population.

A little of this a little of that..

I doubt I would game much if I wasn't playing mp games with my friends. I can still, have a blast doing that.

Single player stuff is what bores me to tears. Brb sitting by myself trying to immerse myself in some boring game doing fetch quests, fighting against pre programmed ai that can't even think and challenge me.

Idk gaming alone is so boring to me. Playing with the homies still gives me those old halo split screen vibes and at least I'm socializing instead of just sitting in a room alone

Playing FF7 rebirth, and its quite a bit more dense than the original game was. I have it on easy, so it’s not about the difficulty. There is just so much going on, all the time. I’m at Costa Del Sol, which was a relaxing beach area in the original. In this version, it’s jam packed with people, restaurants, games, mini quests, etc. Crowds everywhere, it’s a bit overwhelming. I have to put it down for days at a time and be in the right frame of mind for it, or I’ll miss something.

RE4 remake was another I played, and it was considerably harder than the original. Regular mode felt like hard mode on the original. Professional mode felt near-impossible, unless you follow instructions and chit on youtube.

every game got to be a research project these days.

Old games you could pick up and play and just learn anything as you go. I dont want to work all day then come home and have to do a research project, watch youtubes, visit gaming forums, ect just to learn how to play a fuking video game that is suppsoed to be relaxing and fun.

Haven't got a ps5 yet but when I had a ps4 I was really liking uncharted and red dead redemption. Dark souls is good too but really hard, kinda unforgiving when you die and pretty scary.

That did NOT take skill. It took wasting time researching a game to it’s core. Git gud is a cope for people with too much time to waste. I got the highest attainable ranks in the game on the hardest modes. It was not skill. It was just knowing the game, and spending hours upon hours doing so. Wish I read books instead.

thing i understood about git gud a little too late, is if you dont enjoy the process of gitting gud, its just the videogame equivalent of "this show gets good 300 hours in" and you end up paying with your time to enjoy the game

and its not the 90s anymore, there are a million games out there, if i want to i can easily find something that isnt infested with people with the mentality "the noob must die 10000 times before the noob is allowed to enjoy MY game"

of course if you find a game where you do enjoy the process of improving its a different thing

I could 100% never play any of the Souls game, as I've gotten older.

Just don't have the patience to die 100 times to 1 boss and still feel like a winner and a "hero" in the gameplays story.

I've been playing the 1 player mode of Super Smash Brothers Ultimate and noticed the difficulty varies tremendously throughout the battles. Like one battle set to hard won't be bad and you'll crush it in less than a minute, then the next one will be impossible unless I set it normal or easy.

Games like CoD and Battlefield could be improved simply by significantly reducing the skill gap. It's as simple as making long distance shots not viable (e.g. make shots increasingly inaccurate with distance) and having a low enough ceilling for jets and scout helos so that they can't escape rocket launchers and anti air tanks.

Exactly. It's one of the reasons I stopped playing CoD. I've never played another game with such aggressive SBMM. If you dare to string more than 1 kill together in one life you're thrown into sweat fests for the next 5 games.
