So I'm on my third Golf R with manual transmission - absolutely love them. Before the Rs I had Audi S4s and Jaguar XJRs, among others. The R is definitely not as luxurious as either of the other brands but it is so much more fun to drive - only road car I've enjoyed more from a performance perspective is my current 2016 GT3-RS.

Never had an issue with any of my Rs although I do get a new one every 2-3 years.

VW is decent mogger status, don’t worry about what other people think. It’s not a citron or any of that bogus crap

You changed your oil yet, or do you need a special license to do that in the UK?

You make a good point.

Volkswagen, means "People's Car" which meant it was a car anyone could afford.

So, if that philosophy still holds, they probably don't want to make is seem like a classist vehicle.

I love these commercials from years ago starring a German actor who usually plays Satan, crazy people, and gangsters.

It was in the late 90s or early 2000s when people were "pimping their rides" which meant making them look ridiculous. So, the commercial was focused on Volkswagen being simple and classy because of it.

Reliability is still just a 3.5 out of 5 or slightly above avg.
People are buying Hondas and Toyotas because things don't break as frequently.
i enjoyed the 2 i had but years later, they still have not become much more reliable.
The gf's Beetle has been reliable but she barely drives it.

According to some here, Brazilian hookrs are more reliable.
There is an unspoken thing, we are iron brothers and sisters, we are to support each other and…It is our duty to support our brothers and sisters in the iron game!

1) once you're in a certain "category" it's very hard to leave
2) you simply can't get the same level of interior. Which is intentional, because they (VW group) must differentiate their products or fewer will buy their audis and porsches. Essentially, they'd lose their status as premium. You have to keep your price categories because otherwise you compete vs yourself rather than vs other companies.
3) You don't have any flagship products that match those of their other brands.

How do you not realise this is part of the reason?

They have different brands to target different demographics. Like Lexus is considered premium but Toyota is not.

Jokes aside, I heard they have to pay an additional “congestion charge” to drive their cars in London

Nothing about anything you do is mogger, or niche, or premium

I've got a couple of rental properties, a job that pays over $300k, a Mustang I'm in the process of supercharging, I own everything except property outright (the tax benefits of taking on the debt are insane if you know what you're doing), have a no limit Amex card and a Mastercard with a $50k limit currently, and I'm looking at grabbing another car so I can go exploring places with the gf that the Mustang won't take us. I'm taking small 4-5 day vacations interstate every month.

I'm not a fukin mogger either.

Maybe if you’ve accepted that you’ll never own any real estate, you could set your sights on more modest goals such as car ownership?

Maybe you could one day get to Ibby’s level

Lexus is objectively the best mid lux brand. You have solid tried and true mechanics of toyota, with a bit more design budget to make it nice inside. Not to mention the last of jap NA RWD V8s

Havent looked in a while but im sure they are all going with lame TT v6s like everyone else these days.

How can it be 'premium' if pretty much every person can afford one? Do you understand what 'premium' means?

Your cars fine for a first car, but you're kidding yourself with 'elegant and fancy'… bro it's your bog standard silver euro ****box… and it's 12 years old

The vast majority of the misc have far better cars than you and don't feel the need to brag about them 24/7 and try to convince everyone their cars are 'mogger'.

My point is that some people will consider an Audi A1, Merc A Class or BMW 1 series a premium car and levels above a VW polo when reality it’s not, just had a fancy badge slapped on it.

My question was why is isn’t VW considered on the same level as the big 3 German ‘premiums’ above.

Ibby my boy, I drive a Kia, and that mogs your VW. And that's not a brag at all because it's a Kia. I can only imagine how big your head will get when you trade in the VW for an A3 in 5 years.
