India does have a rape problem - it's complex as there are many layers to unpack on why.

2. Rapes make big news in India and sells a lot of views as it's a sensitive topic culturally. So the media covers it more than other countries per air time.
3. Prostitution is dangerous and exploited by the local police so if you get caught it's a wrap for your career unless you pay big money. This is why ultra poor people don't mess with it (who are the usual culprits of most rapes).
4. Indian youths have "gang" cultures. It's due to the fact the Indian government has a lot of red tape and to do simple tasks the bros usually help each other out to the point where if you don't have bros you will be left behind. From getting passports, dropping off people to appointments, passing exams, usng each other's family influence to get things rolling administratively, etc. The issue is when some of the bros are psychos and peer pressure everyone to back each other up. It's like being in a car in prison.
5. When you have a billion people you get some absolutely heinous people who are literally several in a billion - they are genuine psychos who stir the pot and cause reactions.
6. Relationships are looked down upon and can get you in hot water - you must be for example married to even share a hotel room with a woman.
7. Movies show fantasy life which is not close to reality and young men get desperate.

Regarding gold medals: Culture is a powerful driver - India is ultimately a poor country and there is no support system for athletes.

But you also have to look up who is committing those rapes here in the US. In India, it’s Indians..US is a mix of races so it’s not really a fair comparison. I think there is an over reporting of rape in the US and under reporting in India

In US women claim rape because of regret, cheating, revenge, etc
In India women don’t claim it because of shame, police rape, a lower caste, victim blaming, lack of repercussions, etc
