Indeed, enjoy your retirement

I didn't read all the 750+ posts in the thread. But I read some.

The gist i got is that OP believes $1m networth, and $20k/yr income, is sufficient for retirement. And retirement involves living at home, paying the bills, and not doing much in the way of lavish living.

All that to say... maybe OP is right after all? With technological advancements, with video games, TV, internet as a whole, why should you ever feel like you need to go on flights, stay at hotels, attend expensive music festivals, visit other countries in general. Maybe some would call it rotmaxxing, but at the end of the day... it's living with modern tech and enjoying what you're given.

I think I could enjoy an eternity of video games, movies, internet, music, gym, groceries, running around outside (free), maybe have a doggo/cat, and never do any real lavish events or activities.

Being free of the rat race EVERYDAY ***is*** lavish living.

the things you mention as being considered lavish are mostly ways people escape from a life that is almost completely centered around a soul sucking job they would rather not be at.

AND the things you mention can be done by me too...but when life is a long vacation you would be surprised by little you have the feeling of "needing to get away".

lol -- I haven't been "broke" since I was about 12 years old. Even then I technically wasn't broke because I saved all my birthday/Christmas cards with the money in them I'd get from family (yes, I asked for money)...still have them all lol.

That's it boyo, hell I still take a couple week long vacations a year, 3-4 long weekend road trips driving, and a few concerts. I still have all the chit you listed and several hobbies. Follow the path. And then most of your time will be pleasant time out of the limited time you have left.

have you noticed that your perception of time seems different? like you aren't in a big hurry to do anything and it can all be done at your own pace. it makes me wonder how people can work a job and still have time do everything a person needs to do without constantly feeling super rushed/stressed.

what i like best about being retired is that you wake up with everyday being a mystery...don't know what you'll do. and you're always available if someone mentions something that sounds interesting.

i couldn't live knowing a job dictates my whole life...and decades to come.

never in a rush to do anything...i couldn't imagine living like some people rushing to do stuff. gotta take a 5 minute shower, throw my clothes on and race to work because i overslept...umm, no -- I take 20 minute hot showers daily....never rushed to do anything or be anywhere.

Sounds like you lack basic time management skills.

As for everyday being a mystery?

I would hardly call deciding between getting takeout from McDonald's, Cookout, or Taco Bell as "not knowing what the day brings.

houses ain't a bad way to go either. you get an income stream and appreciation in value.

Retirement? What's that. I probably never will. I seriously doubt I'll make it to 65+. There's a high chance as a man, you won't make it.

A lot of things that used to not be argued, are falling out of favor with Zoomers and other younger people such as the breaks that retired people get. Nobody questioned that, but now Zoomers feel entitled and think it is theirs. They will want those breaks ended out of the vision of fairness or equality.

We are falling into a society where those who have it and make it are now expected to carry the burden of those who don't have anything and only take it. Once printing money no longer works they are going to see anyone who has anything as an ATM Machine. Imagine this, you accumulate $1M. Then Democrats create a wealth tax because you are considered wealthy now, they will "be reasonable" at 5% annually. That means that you'll now pay $50,000 a year of that money. They will tax you until you are in poverty and tell you that you should be glad for their "safety nets" to catch you, nevermind that they pushed you off that cliff.

might be a good hedge to start funneling some into gold bought under the table

been giving a few thoughts to solar panels to take my power bill down to nothing...also kinda sorta wish i would've waited for the new prius....i like having a prius...kinda matches my minimalism.
