Still trying to figure out if we will be moving to VT, so a rental out there may be the way to go for us. That way if we move, we will have a place. If not, just another rental.

Also, not sure if you have experience with rentals, but unless you state it will be your primary residence, you will have to come up with 25% down

Just moved from upstate NY and would spend weekends at Killington. Amazing town. Going to buy a rental there towards the end of the ski season this year since it may be a bad season with people exiting after covid.
Any idea what the rental market is like out there?

Yes, that's what I did with RKT. If you plan to re-enter, just make sure you wait 31 days from sale date

This is only if your losses exceed your gains, ie net negative for the year. Otherwise, if you have $100k in gains, but have a -$30k position, you can sell at a loss and just have a reported $70k in gains for the year.

But if you're overall down for the year in realized gains/losses, you will be capped at deducting $3k loss, but every year you can deduct another $3k etc.

Killington fluctuated wildly the year before the pandemic. One of the entry level 1 bedroom condos would go for about 85-100k. Right before the Rona those had creeped into the low 100s.

It’s capped at 3k only if you don’t have any capital gains to offset which Id assume he does. That just reminded me though I think I can actually count the 2k I lost on Robinhood this year against my income since all my gains were in a Roth IRA lol.

Well, the place my wife told me about today is in the upper eastern corner in Guildhall VT. I can't see that being a big tourist area, but it's extremely cheap. It's what got me thinking, plus I've always wanted to live in Vermont. My wife and I have been talking about it for 20 years. So to get something now and rent it out for 10 years, then move in for retirement would be the idea. The goal would be to have it paid off so we could just enjoy the views with the heat on lol.

Also, just picked up another 100 shares of AAL because obviously I'm a glutton for punishment... But it will eventually come back, right?

Right?

Debating whether to sell PLTR at a loss to reduce my gains by $3k. Maybe I should do that right before market close today and buy right on market open Monday.. hmm

Chino do you like selling options both ways?

For instance- thinking of buying 30 more shares of RKT to round out my total to 100. Then sell a CC at $22 and while doing that sell a CSP @18. Collect premium both ways as it continues to trade sideways. Seems easy enough right? Then I collect both premiums assuming it trades 18.01-21.99 right?

If you don't think it'll move much in either direction...just do some iron condors. Make make premiums in both directions without holding any shares.

I didn't see a long post, but I did read your post on the previous page - doesn't look like I missed anything? I looked through the past 10 pages and didn't see anything. Only thing I can think of is somehow I've made a wash sale from buying/rebuying it several times this month, but then again I'm only looking to reduce my total gains so that wouldn't matter

hell yes brah. That was actually how I recouped my RKT losses. I just kept selling calls slightly OTM. Excellent strategy for sideways stocks. I have $20CSP's for 2/19, that I would be 100% ok with getting assigned just so I can do this again

Any chance you know how quickly the cost basis updates on ameritrade? Wondering if I would see my realized gain if I sold at a loss today, or if it would show up Monday

It would update tomorrow even though markets are closed. Just do the basic math my guy. Current profits -whatever loss you'd realize today.

Alright. I apologize for cluttering up the thread with so many questions, but I had one more - does the loss apply to my cost basis if I sell after hours, or does it have to be within the close of market?

Just realized I could potentially reduce my gains by $4k, which would save me $1k come tax time. My only risk would be if PLTR somehow mooned significantly by open on Monday which I doubt, planning to buy back in

TLH must be completed by end of trading day on the final day of the year (today). If you do sell for a loss, and then buy back in next week, you will have negated your TLH and end up with a wash sale, defeating the entire purpose.

You have TDA right? If you have account specific questions I highly highly recommend calling their customer support. They are SUPER helpful.

No worries gotta get it done right. If you rebuy might be a wash?

PLTR probably suffering from a lot of people thinking they'll do that same exact thing. If you believe in it and plan on rebuying perhaps just hold through and don't take the L.

Ah makes sense. I figured it would be a wash but couldnt find anything about year end sales that mentioned it.

How many shares? You need to be selling covered calls if you have enough (an with that amount down, I have to imagine you have AT LEAST a couple hundred shares). Premiums are juicy AF bruh. It's the only reason I'm not trippin about my 2/19 $20CSP.

Even if your CB is $30, and you sell CC's for 2/19 @ $30, you can get over 5% return if it gets called away...

Also, I don't know how twitter works, but I started following this guy recently because ho lee fook!

I’m roughly 1200 shares deep, cost basis @ roughly $27. I think I need to get approved for options trading to do what you suggested - looking at the options menu on mobile though, still trying to decipher what this stuff means
