What's happening?

Apparently my dad (I've mentioned he was showing signs of dementia) hit a bump when he was driving yesterday and freaked out, left his truck in the middle of the street running with the keys in it and the door wide open, ran to his house and left the front door wide open and he was wondering around with his pants halfway down.

He spent the rest of the day in the hospital getting tests done. I had to take his truck and now we have to figure out a new living situation.

This sucks.

Gun show probably isn't going to be the best place to find a deal on a gun, if that's your plan. Prices can be potato. Your best bet is generally to determine what you want and then buy online where you can find the best deal from a reputable dealer. It's easy and generally doesn't take that long.

Unless you meant that you just wanted to do some fondling at the show then buy afterwards.

Feels. Hope everything turns out ok and you can get something figured out.

My dad has been struggling with that for a bit . . . had his driving privileges taken away awhile back. He's been doing a bunch of mental exercises and tests and taking this coconut oil supplement that is rumored to help with the nerve & memory functions. And last time he was tested, he had improved something like 20%. So that's great--but he's never going to "get better". We're just hoping to slow the rate of decline. My mom is still going strong and able to take care of him, but she's already researching retirement communities around here because it's inevitable.

Damn I hate hearing that about parents getting old and losing it. It's my biggest fear. My mother is in a wheelchair and my dad is almost blind, I think it won't be too long before they can't take care of each other and then we'll have to make some choices too.

Not really worried about looking for lowest cost. Just figured the show would be the best chance to compare many different options together.

taf you were the one recommending the M & P shield yesterday right? I was trying to research it a bit and trying to compare the shield to the M&P9c. Anything you can say between the two models? I like that the later holds 12 rounds.

Damn dude, Im real sorry to hear it. Ive suffered from PTSD along with other injuries and can say it sucks. I know my one buddy after coming home got out of his car on the highway and attacked the car behind him with a sword for following him too closely. They locked him away for a bit...

Supposedly, as I understand it, the coconut oil is supposed to provide a source of ketones to fuel the brain and then do something to enhance the sheaths around the nerves to help them "fire" better, which I guess is one of the things that causes the issues (the nerves are short circuiting). Or something along those lines.

I don't know . . . I'm pretty skeptical of it, but it's worth a shot if it helps even a little. My mom was sort of grasping at straws when someone who apparently had luck with it recommended it. And he did improve, as noted . . . so maybe there's something to it, or coincidence, or some combination of the two?

I have both the Shield in 9mm (which I carry) and the M&Pc in .40. Long story . . . originally was going to carry the compact and bought one, and the only other handgun I had at the time was a .40. The capacity on the .40 is 10, but I do think the 9mm version holds 12. I still shoot the compact quite a bit and it's a great gun.

They are roughly the same height and length . . . the big difference is the width (and the capacity). I felt the thinner Shield was a better choice, for me, for carry because it would be more comfortable to carry--and it's been a great carry gun. So it really comes down to what you think you will be comfortable with.

This will be mainly just for the hotter weather. Soon as it gets cooler I can hide something larger easier

My father has Parkinson's so I'll probably have to take care of him later on, which I'm perfectly okay with.
