dude I have worked in the financial sector for 20 years and there is ALWAYS a crapton of people working sat and sunday - "it is expected"

and even if you are not actively working you still need to keep an eye on internal chat and emails and respond in a timely manner or you may come in to a big fire early morning when you "go to the office/remote"

and if your support team is in india then the 3-4am start of the day is pretty common as well

Someone on the one Reddit thread compared it to camping outside Tesla to monitor vehicle production and employee activity. That's not even close to the same thing: if you can monitor the manufacturing/sales of a company that makes its money by manufacturing/selling things, you can actually extrapolate a legitimate valuation. Company moves X number of cars, they employ X number of people at X blended rate, they incur X costs for materials etc, you could actually get a decent handle on their financials before they publish anything. If there's a sudden slowdown in activity, you know their revenue will be affected. If their production slows down but they maintain the same number of employees working the same hours, watch out profits. That's just really smart and is the basis for limiting insider trading within certain windows because people "in the know" have easy access to data like this.
