I say DO IT! if they are legal to use for deer hunting in your area they are a serious meat getting tool. We don't have rifle season in IL and shotgun/muzzeloader tags are already sold out before I could get one. This is just as good as a shotgun IMO maybe better, certainly more accurate than any slug I've seen at 100 yards.
So so tempting. May have to do it. Was already considering a bow or the benelli for treat yourself day. This makes it harder.

Still fun to shoot. They just made them legal in IL for the entire season, it was late season only (after shotgun/Muzzle stuffer) without medical waiver. Its a pretty neat deal though for $600. If you get one this is the way to go. Xbows are hard on strings and this you can change yourself where a compound Xbow you would need a bow shop with a bow press to change strings, adjust cables when they get out of tune, especially the ones that shoot at speeds that these Matrix 380s do).

Id say it would be a good item to add to your "compound"

Well I can promise there are 9 in stock now, not 11. I'm guessing my dad will be texting me that he ordered another too pretty soon. He wacked a small buck last night at 72 yards with the snow camo one he just bought when I bought my other one earlier in the month or whenever it was...He wasn't thrilled when I sent him the link since he felt almost obligated to buy another at that price

Just chatted with the company, those bows are in stock. Some reviews online said that the site would sell items that were out of stock. Not sure why I'm excited about them, just going to squirrel them away in a safe spot for the next 4 years or so

Given then power that Xbow has, do you notice how long it takes the deer to drop given you are hitting the critical zone? Is it usually pretty quick?

Power does not matter other than for trajectory and effective range. So a traditional re-curve or long bow with low velocity will kill a deer from close up just as fast and dead as an arrow going much faster from a compound or crossbow. Crossbow is effective at longer ranges

The big advantage is shot placement. Shot placement is the difference between a deer going 20-30 yards with a double lung and falling over dead (very humane IMO sometimes they don't even run just stand there and keel over), vs a deer going several miles, maybe die from an infection days later, or surviving if they get lucky from a bad hit (I try to not do that, it ruins my season if I lose one, feel really bad about it). It is MUCH easier to shoot a crossbow accurately and put the bolt/arrow on target very precisely.

The other advantage is less movement. Deer are very keen on detecting movement even though their vision kind of sucks. With Xbow its much easier to "get away with" raising the Xbow to aim than it is trying to draw a compound bow.

If you hit a deer in the boiler room and get a pass through double lung they should not go more than 40 yards max, even if they are keyed up and take off on a sprint.

lol I know what you mean on the actual steak side of things.

We do love our ground venison for chili, tacos, spaghetti etc. Super lean though. Not good for patties unless it's cut with something fatty.

Low fat content, not gonna happen. It does make a huge difference to age them though. We typically age every animal 7-10 days in a home built walk-in cooler held at 41 degrees. Makes the biggest rut buck tender and mild (no "gamey" taste). I love deer steaks, prefer them over beef, the ground, meh its so lean you almost need to make chili or something. I just ate a ground vension wrap, dry AF cause no fat, added a little salsa and it was okay. Deer chili is great though especially with some cheddar added.

Also could just shoot one of the farmers cows and say you were mistaken and thought it was a deer

I got pretty excited one morning last year because a farmers cattle got out and a few came walking through the woods just before dawn. Heard heavy hooves coming then could barely make out giant body was like awe fuk trophy time, until it got close enough that I realized it was a 1200lb cow and not a 250 lb deer...

I've also spent forever sitting perfectly still barely breathing staring at sticks before the sun rises enough to see they are not antlers. good times.

Ive never even heard of goat bacon, I like regular bacon and goat cheese though

That sounds really good. I usually just use olive oil, fresh garlic, salt and pepper on loin steaks.

Can confirm. I keep the tenderloins for grilling

I always have some processed, mostly shoulders, neck, etc. Usually get jalapeño and cheese summer sausage, sticks (sorta like Slim Jims) and link sausage. Hhhhhhnnnnngggggg

This is the CMC Trigger I was telling y'all about.



Drop in trigger, 3.5lbs. Single stage action and a flat face. I'd definitely replace a standard milspec trigger with this one.

I tried their Glock triggers out. Wasn't too swayed to replace that over the standard Glock trigger TBH.

I should experiment more. My duck breasts from the weekend just got cut into medallions tossed into a skillet and seared on the stove olive oil and garlic with coarse salt and black pepper. Then I tossed them on some toasted 35 calorie bread and gobbled them down.

With the cost o fstate and fed duck stamps they were $25 per bird so far

Seriously, take a tenderloin and slice it open down the middle making a long pocket. Mix up some cream cheese and diced jalapenos. Stuff the pocket with the mixture. Wrap it in bacon and toothpick the hell out of it. Put it on the grill.

There's all kind of recipes for the mixture online but I like to KISS.

yea, that bird hunting can get pricey

I normally cut my breasts in half then wrap in bacon and splash a little Worcestershire or soy sauce on them and grill

very simple, very good
