Feel like me and Imbored have the exact same dopamine problem or something. Maybe Bigtimeplayer does as well. I just feel like i have to force myself to do things other than fapping, browsing the internet and chasing storms. It's even hard for me to enjoy a video game. I don't even have to feel depressed, i just generally lack joy for the things i used to enjoy. And my moods are constantly changing.

I used to think I had bipolar but I never get the highs so it’s not that. I’m almost positive what I have is social anxiety, depression & ocd intrusive thoughts. I’ve only ever been diagnosed with social anxiety & depression though. Life sucks when you have all that on top of being an introvert. It’s just a recipe for disaster.

I think being an introvert is OK if you are younger. But once you hit mid-late 20's it seems like you have to get over whatever anxiety, depression, introverted issues you have to function in society.

Yeah, I agree. You have to nip all this **** in the bud when you’re younger otherwise you’re going to have issues. There’s only a certain timeframe of being able to make friends otherwise once everyone reaches marriage & kids age than you’re screwed. I don’t think anyone after a certain age is even looking to make new friends. They’re either too busy with their marriage or they have their social circle already.

Yeah i don't think many people make friends after 26-27 for sure. I mean i don't know anyone who does. The last friend i made was when i was 25 and even that seemed a bit late.

It just gets kinda old always being by myself all the time. Once a week or every other week I’d like to go out & hang out with a few people to break the cycle of being alone everyday. Really no interest in a fwb to be honest. Just not my thing.

I wish i had a gun so I could blow my brains out. I have visions of killing myself everyday. I feel like I'm useless and have no value. I feel like I'm a burden on my mother and a pest. I feel like no one in my family loves me. I feel so ****ing alone in this black hell that is my life. I was beaten everyday for 3 years. My mind is so fuked up that I think I will never get better and be able to move on and actually be able to be happy and live life.

I still don’t know why I crash down hard randomly. I’m in one of my low moods out of nowhere & there’s nothing I can do to get rid of it. The only thing I can do is just wait to let it pass.

What’s your diet like? Have many meals do you have a day? Are you getting enough calories? What foods are your staples?

I'm living proof that this is NOT true. The people who I've made friends with, later in my life, are ALSO proof because they're also way older than 25. There is almost no correlation at all if you compare my list of friends when I was 25, and my list of friends now; the latter is larger AND in fact a number of person in the original group have since died...

eod, it reads here as though you're a "been there, done that" kind of guy - once you've done something once, you never have a desire to do it again? But there must be some things you inherently enjoy a lot, that you do like to do over and over, and possibly at least one of those actually involves human interaction. I assume your storm chasing is entirely free-lance, entirely solo, and not even involving you doing any reporting or anything else. Are there any things, with other humans, that you "routinely" enjoy doing?

Here’s a comment I found on reddit. I’m posting it primarily for EOD but it’s of relevance to anyone who is struggling socially. It’s written by a woman:
Why do you have to start with small talk? Because no one will trust you enough to tell you anything interesting about what they think, what they love, what makes them passionate until you prove you're not an *******. Small talk is a shibboleth to basic common decency and a sense of restraint. People who can engage in small talk and pointless conversational filler are demonstrating their willingness to negotiate the social highway effectively. You have to build up to more intense, more personal, more intellectual topics. Not everyone will want to go there, but a lot of people can and will once they come to like you a little in the shallow waters.

When you jump straight into intense conversations about your interests, even if you're trying to find common ground with someone else, what you're doing is the conversational equivalent of jerking off. You're saying, "Here's what I like, here's what I want to talk about, talk about it with me or scram". Which is not to say you're being impolite inherently, but that style of conversation is naturally uncomfortable for the other person. Ever have someone tell you 77 Amazing Facts about their latest landscaping project or the new water softner they installed? Even if you were with them through facts 1-22, they will bore you eventually and you'll want to bow out. It feels like you're just the passive recipient to someone's boring standup routine.

If you want to have a good conversation, if you want to feel really engaged when you talk to someone, you need to be interested. Not interesting. You have to talk to other people like their interests are fascinating, like they are revolutionizing the water softner installation process, like you've never heard such an epic and exciting tale as their landscaping journey. That will generally leave everyone with a really positive impression of you, even if you're bored to tears. But there will be a select group of people who give you back that interest. They get interested in you with reciprocity. The people who echo that interest back are the people you can engage in a really interesting conversation. And yeah, maybe your areas of expertise won't be perfect matches. Maybe you'll find a philosopher long haul truck driver, a poet farmer, a housewife with an insane deadlift. The people who don't return that interest will leave the conversation feeling validated and will have an overall great impression of you. The people who do return your interest will feel a sense of kinship and commonality on which you can base friendships and deeper trust.

Trying to have conversations to satisfy your own masturbatory urge to hear yourself speak, to have your thoughts engaged, is a losing strategy. I say that as someone who lives and dies in that urge; everyone has that need and I cast no judgement on it. If you try to go out and find people who like the things you like, talk about things you want to talk about, engage you at your level...it will always be this frustrating. The reality is that everyone has a tiny universe inside of them and if you show them you find them interesting, if you engage them in what they enjoy, they might do the same thing for you. You'll find crazy connections and shared interests and overlapping experiences if you go that route. The strangest people will shock you with their complexity and depth. But if you roll up saying, "Engage in my political debate or move along" you'll miss it every time, because people bounce right off that energy.

This highlights the points made in my previous post. You perceive socialising in a masturbatory way, i.e. it's all about your own self-indulgence and getting your own needs met. It's all take and no give.

That's not wrong as such, as it's a natural inclination, but at it's extremes it's also immature and/or narcissistic.

Socialising is reciprocal. To get what you want, you're gonna have to give a little.

Read my previous post in full, serious.
