With a $1500 budget, I would get either:

Daniel Defense
BCM

with mlock rail

Yes.

What you're looking for if you don't know what you're looking for is a quality, proven brand's 16"* rifle, preferably mid length gas system (or longer), with a free floating m-lok rail. Daniel Defense and BCM are good standards to compare to here, they have some uppers + add a lower, and some complete rifles, that end up right around that price point. There are some pretty good rifles a little lower and some really nice rifles even higher as well, but even at 'just' $1,500 you're getting into the higher cost being in part from improved parts that aren't part of the base rifle so to speak, nicer rail, stock, trigger, things that can be changed out on a less expensive rifle but you come out ahead in the long run if you buy it like that from the start vs ala cart adding over time especially since, as a first rifle of this kind, being totally turn-key is nice, just buy it, lube it, shoot it

*(not pinned 14.5 for a first when you don't know what you want for sure)

Pick one and get it. Then to properly support it, assuming you don't have any of these things already, it would be pretty damn solid to get a case of ammo, a 10 pack of good magazines, a sling, a light, a few key spare parts, and finally an optic. We can talk about those after you have the rifle on the way.

I sustain what Farley said. Either get a BCM complete rifle, or go with Geissele. IMO those are the two best choices these days, anything that's "higher quality"/boutique is a waste of money, it's unnecessary.

If you want to try to save some money, maybe wait until either of these are on sale:

https://www.primaryarms.com/bravo-co...-cosmetic-blem

https://www.primaryarms.com/bravo-co...-stk-mod-0-blk

Then buy a complete BCM upper.

What Farley said regarding going with a 16" upper is true, until you know what you want. However, I'd say that you should just want a 14.5" upper with a pinned Surefire Warcomp.

That website is good to go and that is an excellent rifle.

Like Farley said now is the time to buy. Get a nice rifle and buy 2 cheap ones just because the deals are just too good to pass up. Used to be it was 1k minimum just to get into low end ARs and now you can put together a reliable rifle for around $300. It is crazyness

Also I'm not sure if you know this but you'll have to have it sent to a LGS and they will charge you a transfer fee. Call around and find the cheapest transfer fee beforehand

I've had one since 2010 . . . it's a 2008 with 92k now.

They are awesome and largely bulletproof. The one glaring thing to watch out for (mostly on 2005 - 2011ish models) is there was a flaw in the radiators that caused coolant and tranny fluid to mix and killed trannys. If you are buying 2012 or newer they fixed the issue with a different rad. But if you buy something in that range you need to check that out and make sure you aren't getting one with a bad rad or that has had the fluid mix. Google "xterra SMOD" and you'll find all sorts of info. The dealer caught mine really early and I got a new radiator and tranny at 66k for $0.

Other than that . . . I love mine. Gonna drive it into the ground.

What could possibly go wrong?

It’s kind of like when you see the cops pulling someone else over and you say “oh good, I can speed, the cops are busy with that guy”.
Everything depends upon execution; having just a vision is no solution.

Performance and performance alone dictates the predator in any food chain.

Pro Tip: If your furnace uses a hot surface ingnitor . . . ALWAYS keep at least one spare on hand.

I just noticed the house was getting pretty cold. Checked the thermostat and it was not reading what it should. Wnet down to check the furnace and, sure enough, it was getting to the point where it should light, but wasn't. Zero glow from the ignitor. I swapped it out in about 10 mins and now I have heat again.

Something pretty similar actually happened to ours last winter but we were still under the home warranty we asked the sellers for and they paid for (they gave everything we asked for on first offer), flame sensor I want to say, it would go through all the steps but right after starting it would shut back off...sensor was just gunked and didn't detect that the fire had started so it shut down. Only cost the visit/'co pay' which was like fifty bucks. Then later the A/C needed a new coil so we took the cashout option in the thousands and put it towards a new unit. Sweet deal

Nice thing about two stories with separate units is that even when one goes tits up you're only up the creek with one paddle instead of none
