No English speaking person would refer to rocks as 'missiles' either when claiming 'teens' were throwing missiles at police. While technically correct, it can paint an exaggerated image.

It is totally correct in the UK. Though will obviously confuse Americans-like many of our words, sayings & food dishes. It will nearly always be Missile or Projectiles were thrown or hurled.

Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary-

1. A weapon that is sent through the air and that explodes when it hits the thing that it is aimed at-nuclear missiles a missile base/site.

2. An object that is thrown at someone to hurt them-Missiles including stones and bottles were thrown at the police.

I already said I understand that it's correct but it's stupid to use the term when 'projectile' precisely describes an object that was thrown. Missile has multiple definitions. Why use a term that has some ambiguity? Also, don't you limey toothed bastards ever claim the UK is 'correct'. You're not and never will be. Imperial system chits on your metric system.

I think projectiles is better personally as well. Most Brits of my age & up prefer the Imperial system for measurements-feet & inches, stones & pounds etc. It caused massive issues when Metric was introduced & indeed even in recent survers teens & people in their twenties asked are pretty even-with about half preferring to measure things like height & weight in Imperial.
