LOL. Sticky = traction.

Oh dude, if you want more traction, sauce your tires up. Do you have any Simple Green? Simple Green diluted with a little water is really good for cleaning tires, and it also leaves them tacky. WD-40/Liquid Wrench/PB Blaster can soften the rubber too. Wintergreen oil and alcohol mix is also good for tire sauce.

I actually swapped the rubber tires earlier and it was a total disaster lol . It hooked up too well and just kept flipping when you went into a turn , so I put the hard tires back on immediately. It makes sense with a rubber track and rubber tires that they’re not going to work .
I’m thinking using the rubber tires on painted plywood would be interesting though , maybe best case scenario dunno .
I’m definitely finding my rubber gym floor tiles are not the best , as the odd seam is to inaccurate and the cars little tires catch the edge .
This is where a 1/27 would probably be fine

That was cool they gave you 2 different sets of tires.

Yeah I could see how the flooring seams could disrupt the car a bit.

And srs I doubt it would be a problem with larger cars , I mean 1/47 scale cars have tiny tires . No loss though as I’m having a great time.
I managed to go full open as I did three figures eights once , but all it takes is some small deviation in one of my rubber tiles to throw you off your game.
I’m not to get too crazy with these cars because the only way to do it right is to have a lot of real estate . If I won the lotto I wouldn’t hesitate to have a building built around 100’ x 100’ for a track . You need room for working on the cars and staging etc .
We don’t have any tracks around here , maybe 5 hours away if at all . Would be cool to get a club going

Yeah that's why I haven't been racing in a while. We don't have a decent indoor off road track where I live. There used to be a dope 1/10 scale indoor off road track, but it closed. I think there is an 1/8 scale outdoor nitro track, but I never really got into nitro racing.

It's a tough business to keep indoor tracks open, they usually go out of business within 5-10 years.

I was thinking the same thing , you’d need a large population to make it work , and even then it would probably be pretty dicey.

If I win the lotto I’d just build a track for me on my estate , and the somedays I’d invite a few friends or start a club maybe .
I’d only have Mini Z , and have the widest ones they make on my track as I think they have different models. The reason I’d want the widest available is they’d be least likely to flip .

Just ordered a second car today in case I find myself drinking with a friend and want to race around the gym for lols .
I’m thinking about cutting some MDF and creating corners and islands for the middle . Something I can throw down on a whim to make an instant course

Nice dude! I like the Porsche! Good move on having an extra car on hand for buddies coming over. Post up your track when you get it cut out!

Even in large populations, it's still hard to make it work. The track I used to race at on Long Island would have maybe 60-70 dudes show up on Friday night, and maybe 100 max on Sunday. Me and other dudes were driving out from NYC, while others were coming from NJ and CT. I think they closed down in 5-6 years. Only when they held a big regional event, that they marketed for months, they would have 200-250 headcount for the weekend. That was like once a year.

California has some really good tracks, but even one of the nicest tracks in the world, OCRC Raceway, located in Orange County, which hosted huge international competitions every year, eventually closed down. They had a good run though, lasted like 13-14 years.

Wow what a bummer hearing about these tracks failing . If I win the lotto , I guess I’ll have the biggest private track in North America lol .
I’ll lol if I build one and lose interest 20 minutes later . But tbh I think it would be a cool endeavour , as it’s so much cooler than slot car racing where you only control the speed

Yeah, come to think of it, it's mostly because those tracks were in high COL areas. I think there's some tracks in the midwest and other areas that have been around for a while. Arizona has a sick facility called Hobby Action that's been around for a while.

Definitely cooler than slot cars.

Bumping this thread. Looking to get back into RC cars since I wont be biking anytime soon and want to have a hobby to enjoy. I am/was looking at Arrma Typhon 6s to rip around the yard/fields near me. It probably is overkill but I do have the extra cash and time, why not treat myself.

That's a good basher for the yard. Will be a lot of fun. They sell it Ready To Run, just need a 4S or 6S LiPo battery and charger.

Prolly wanna start with a 4S, which will be really fast, maybe 40-45mph. 6S they say can hit 70mph. Get a charger that can handle 6S in case you decide to run a 6S.

You getting it from a local shop or ordering online?

To be completely honest, whoever has the better deal lol. I was going to get 6s batteries and limit the throttle but those fucker are expensive. I may just start out with 4s and move on from there to help with some costs. Was lookin at Zee's and some chinese battery company that apparently makes good batteries.

I was looking at the 223 setup but heard that the 2 in 1 ECS is not the best and if I upgrade anything, I might as well went with the 6s. Plus it has a bunch of upgrades standard.

Dude 6S will haul ass and if you aren't used to controlling the thing, you could wreck the car on the first crash. Ded srs. You can even wreck it with a 4S.

I think 4S is the smarter move to start out. Unless you have a really wide open field to run 6S.

Zeee's could be decent batteries for bashers. I used to race 1/10the scale 2wd so I had more race-oriented packs that cost a bit more.

SMC Racing has good bang for the buck LiPos. Good quality that don't puff. I used to use them as practice packs and then run Trinity/Revtech for racing.

https://www.smc-racing.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=67_96

Gens Ace is also a good cheaper battery. They used to be considered a cheap battery but lately I've seen pro drivers running them.

Zeee's will prolly still be cheaper than SMC or Gens Ace, but check out the pricing. SMC and Gens ACE will be a higher quality Lipo.

Amain.com is a great place to order shit in general because they have literally everything at decent prices. They're like the amazon of RC.

Here is all the 4S lipos at Amain:

https://www.amainhobbies.com/4s-14.8v-car-batteries-lipo-lihv-cars-trucks/c2382

If you're on the east coast, Absolute Hobbyz in NJ is really good to order from too with good pricing. I think Amain has an east coast warehouse now too though.

Chargers you can get AC or DC. DC chargers will let you charge at higher amps, so quicker charge, but you will need an additional power supply for like 80 bucks. With chargers, you want to get as many amps and watts as you can afford, that could still also charge 6S. like at least 10-20 amp charger, if not more. If you go the DC route, and need to get an additional power supply, a few RC brands have converted HP server power supplies to RC power supplies for under 100 bucks.

For ESC, yeah the 223 only has a 80 amp esc, whereas the 6S has a Spektrum 150amp ESC. For comparison, my 1/10th scale 2wd that runs on 2S uses a 160amp esc, but that is prolly overkill. High end ESCs for 1/8th scale racing are like 200amp. So that 150amp should be good.

RCTech.net is a good forum resource too.

Edit: When you're looking at Lipos, get the hard case lipos

dawg thanks for all the information, srs. I am stoked to get into this. Keeping an eye open for deals from henceforth on the Arrma 1/8 6S line. I am going to dig into my stuff to see if I can find my old HPI car I had in the 7th grade. Spent all summer doing odd jobs to build it, got it running, then crashed it into a curb breaking the frame. Totally turned off. In hindsight, I shouldnt have been driving it in a tiny parking lot lmao.

No problem homie. I wrecked a couple RC cars against the curb when I was a kid too. Used to save my lunch money for weeks to buy new parts. The curb remains undefeated.
