Beaters are not nice cars that grew old
Beaters are not 30k cars and now you make 200k and see a 2020 Camry as a beater

Beaters are cars you see on the street and laugh out loud at the look and sounds. Beaters are cars you wouldn't allow your teen to drive for safety and family perception concerns. Beaters are cars you hide and ask your friend for his whip when your first date asks for a ride. Beaters have multiple colors, physical damage, something is busted features wise (bonus points for AC/heat), no hub caps, a longer than it should be on there doughnut tire, ect. Beaters are what people who hit rock bottom and show up to cousin Eddie's used car lots with 2k cash and ask for whatever runs.
for while i kept my parents 2000 Camry with 200k+ as a beater...had dents/dings/few minor fender benders, faded/dead paint in many areas, interior wear, rattle noise from the rear suspension...just a worn out car that had lived outside all its life. heat/air/radio worked but i considered it a beater because at the time i knew it was only worth maybe 1500. wasn't worried at all about it accumulating more cosmetic damage and if anything mechanical over $600 was needed to keep it running I would just sell it. ran fine but it was just something to beat around in....change the oil and drive it until it dies to keep some miles off my other vehicle.

ITT people don't know what a beater is. Think of it as a disposable tool. Even if it’s totaled or fails completely no substantial monetary value is lost.
