i would assume powerlifting started out as moving the most weight in the full lift

then later devolved to moving the most weight in any way possible, including squatting low bar to parallel instead of high bar, benching with those retarded arches, and deadlifting sumo because short people

the older one sounds better to me

to be fair, you have to define what a "full lift" is. powerlifting is a competitive sport. with any sport, you'll seek out advantages; why would you ever handicap yourself? unless you dont care about winning

so when it comes to PL, which is a very simple sport in itself, two important things are (1) taking advantage of your leverages and (2) lowering bar travel distance. Why deliberately increase the distance when that could mean increasing the chances of a failed lift?

For a lot of people, sumo deadlift will be advantageous because it relies more on the posterior chain, which is already built up through training the squat. Tack on the lower bar travel distance and you have the most competitive deadlift technique.

side note, what i've seen is that the "wider you go," in regards to bench, dead, or squat, the more technique is involved. (I have no scientific evidence to back this up). Also, there are plenty of low-bar, wide-stance squatters who can hit legal depth. It's simply more difficult to do and to judge, IMO.

Why the fuk do you care? Sumo feels much better for me due to my proportions so i pull sumo. I dont do it to decrease the ROM. It just feels better mechanically. Im not gonna start pulling conventional because sumo is "cheating".

regardless of whether one is easier or not... same lifter, same weight lifted, different stance. Conventional will look more badass.

Yeah of course. Because when lifting sumo 600lbs will magically float into the air without any effort from the lifter.

Its just a different way of lifting, get over it.

you do realize that arching is nothing but compensation for lacking back thickness compare dan green "flat bench" ROm with most guys who arch ROM it will be almost the same

also ironically sumo is prefered by mostly tall guys
Bench 315
squat 525
deadlift 585

I just hit a huge pr deadlifting today after being injured for over 2.5 years I had a herniated disc today I hit a triple with the weight max before the injury.

I am so fukking happy right now I thought I was never ever coming back to lower body lifts.

so to all the people who have lower back injuries it's not over till it's over.

Injured myself tons of time in the past. My back is basically an indestructible, titanium bodypart now. What dont kill you makes you stronger

I dont lift or eat consistently enough to have big numbers, just got into lifting again recently. Can do 5 plates for probably 6-8 reps so I'm guessing a 6 plate deadlift for 1 at 178lbs probably.

I dont lift that often but i still know enough about it to state my opinion and critique shiit.

Sumo suits some people's bodies more than conventional, and for others conventional is better.

This is based on the shape and length of your bones, and how the femur inserts into the hip socket. It's not rocket science, but it is science. All you have to do is look at different peoples structural anatomy to see that the stance that suits each person varies from one person to the next. It has NOTHING to do with making a lift easier, or being able to pull more(although it DOES make sense that if you are using the stance that is best for YOUR body, you would be able to pull more with less discomfort and less chance of injury), whether that be conventional or sumo

Try educating yourself about this stuff before you just come post useless crap about something you have no clue what you are talking about

Ahhhh...the Internet, where anyone can post anything they want, no matter how stupid it is.

Stop faking being humble. Either way you're most likely lying. 95% sure you can't do 5 plates for 5 reps.

Sumo is gay. When I put on a belt and do sumo with straps I could probably do 100lbs more than conventional beltless.

i love conventional deadlifts but after they put too much pressure on the low back and it's venom for my injury.
