bro my best friend in middle school was a black skater (lived on my street). we used to constantly 1-up each other by learning new tricks. if you find a buddy to skate with it's soooo much fun having friendly competition

based on your height you might like a 8" or 8.5" deck . personally I use 7.5". risers and bigger wheels will increase your ollie pop down the road if you're not happy with your ollie height. there's indoor wheels which grip smooth surfaces and street wheels. trucks will be preference if you're into grinds (heavy trucks) or street/flip tricks (light trucks).

do you skate loose/med/tight trucks? tight is okay for beginner but eventually you want med/loose to catch more landings and build ankle strength in multiple ranges. your calves will be j00cey skating loose

skate shoes or flat bottomed shoes are necessary. you can skate in chuck taylors/converse. hit up a DSW or some factory outlet for skate shoes if all you have are runners

I still skate every once in a while. Longboarding is also good, it isn't so taxing on your body.

props to anyone they can skate. its hard as ****. is real good cardio too.

when I was around 19_21, I skated but only did flip tricks. I remember seeing Brysn Herman do a hardflip over a picnic table and thought it was insane.
same day I was trying super high fs shove_its, when by COMPLETE accident it turnered into the slowest spinning hardflip ive ever seen. somehow I sucked my feet up, and the board magically fliped underneath my feet. when I caught the board, it felt like I was ten feet high. I landed smooth.

never happened again. seriously one of the greatest feels ever though. can still bust varial kickflips and heelflips on demand though, when I can achieve balance that is

DO IT OP

I am 21 and thinking about picking it back up. I used to love skating as a kid but smashed my head off the ground when going down a ramp and kind of gave up after that.

well yeah it's going to rip faster than skate shoes but technically works if he isn't drilling ollies and flips. if he already has the shoes, sure, go beat them up.

I used to ride flatland BMX obsessively.

Now I ride a mountain bike or road bike depending on my mood.

This past winter (arizona) i had several epic days of riding 5-10 hours straight in the dirt or hilly roads.

GOAT activity.

last ****ty update post from me in a while.

This is incredibly fun.But it also isn't easy. I skated for 3hours last night and my skill level is that of a toddler. I had to teach myself how to ride and turn all over again. I also need to learn how to fall, because I hit the ground pretty hard a few times. My ass is sore (no homo).

I love this dudes style

Any way, thanks again to everyone ITT. I've skated almost every day since I've got my board, and it's easily the best decision I've made all year.

I'm looking into buying another pair of skate shoes. I've got my eyes on these

My ankle aches every now and then so I was looking into high top shoes for the extra support. Are there any downsides to having high top shoes for skateboarding? I would imagine that they are heavier

I reconected with the skate around 21 y.o. and had a lot of fun with it at the time, at last i gave up because the wrist always suffer and i play guitar, definitely the falls hurt a lot less when you are a kid. I also started snowboarding around 30 and also had a great time (its been a while since the last time). Whatever you wanna do, do it brah.

I wouldn't recommend high tops. You need all the ankle movement you can get. That's assuming you trying to learn some flip tricks.

Atta boy! Stairs is a pretty big step, but that's dope that you have the balls to try it right off the go. Just wait until you land your first BS 180, you'll become obsessed with bigspins and halfcabs.

Link a vid ITT when you tackle and land the stairs; I'd be stoked to see it.

There's a joke among my friends that you can't just watch someone skate without wanting to do it yourself. I have to cover my eyes sometimes when I'm dog tired and around people skating, otherwise I'll kill myself doing chit.

Go get a deck and practice, brah.

Hey man, those shoes up above look like canvas shoes, don't buy them if you're going to be doing ollies, flip tricks, etc. You will rip a hole through them the first week. You want suede shoes, they last longer and give you better traction for ollies. These are the best and most comfortable, from my experience.

Edit: Nm see you got some nikes instead of the supras
