I don't know how some of you do it, I turned 18 this year and I can hardly bare living at home anymore. Not saying living with family is a bad choice money/saving/investment wise but fuk me I'd want to neck myself if I lived here for another 5+ years
Theres so many ways to save good money and still move out, I can't see how some of you are using it as an excuse unless you're not as well off financially to begin with

Living with mom n dad is the best. Free meals, christmas n birthday presents, no rent to pay. Subsidized gas, no need to own my own car, laundry done for me. ahh the life.
Of course I help out and clean up the house, do errand sometimes and stuff like that too. So we all get a long just right.

I've attempted to move out twice and both times it didn't work out, first time was with my girlfriend at the time. Rent was so expensive, especially since I was just finishing highschool, I spent 10-12 hour days working. Didn't have much free time, no friends.. I think it's part of why we broke up. RIP my savings
Anyways second time I moved and tried to pay my brother rent, living in his house. That didn't work out.. couldn't move out on my own cuz I didn't have enough money cuz of the previous attempt at moving out. I ended up spending what money I did save on my brothers ever increasing price on rent, and car troubles.
all in all that's about 10 grand I spent trying to go out and live on my own. Now I only have 1k in my savings, and a medical bill I just got for more than I have in the bank....

Probably why marriages end so early now days too. Girls are always looking for that guy that is ready to go, everything is good on paper, but what neither partner knows is that they've been pampered their whole lives. They spend their paychecks in full and the water heater breaks and before you know it, it's the hardest thing they've had to deal with so far in life and now they have financial woes and aren't sure how they're going to get through this tough part of life. Before you know it she's looking for a guy that will be more stable than the last so they don't have to stress about money.

I've been poor living in college when I couldn't work because of 18 credit hours plus college soccer. I would go some days with only eating bread and peanut butter because I didn't have a meal plan. If you honestly believe kicking your kid out who is working their ass off to get ahead, then you are an idiot. I would do it to my kid if he just sat around all day doing nothing. You have to punish the lazy and reward the hard work.

If dorms aren't an option, then rent a room, split a pad with friends, look for people looking to share a rent contract with other people. People do this all the time here in the bay area, even into their 30s. You have to crawl before you walk, and walk before you run.
The point is, the sooner you become self sufficient, the better for yourself, and for anyone who has to pull your weight until you do. It's also fulfilling in other areas of life.

I still live with my mom, but she lives with me, as my name is on the lease, and i pay rent. she's retired, and still works here and there.
there's no mooching taking place, and when i didn't have chit, she took care of what i had so, it's whatever, i guess it depends with the relationship in the end.
to keep it 100% though, i don't feel comfortable bringing women back with my mom here, kind of awkward regardless, i'm getting my place soon. i work from home too.

I moved back in while I get a new place. Been here a month and want to shoot myself. Maybe because I know what it is like to have my own place and that is what I am accustom to but fuk living at home. Plus how the hell do people bang sloots if they live with parents? Havent been laid in a month.

I am not mooching off of my parents, I am making a smart financial decision. Basically trading house work for a room.
