Depends where you live. In a rich British city those are pretty entry level cars. In the all-girl student house opposite me, they have an A1 and a BMW 1-series, both new. But Britain is a lot richer than the rest of Europe by disposable income. Those cars are like iphones, usually bought by females clinging to a brand image.

2005 Vauxhall corsa with 80k miles crew.

Getting a new car is pretty low down on my list of priorities. And besides, nobody is mirin your BMW 1 series or Audi a1. They're so common in the uk.

Yes I noticed that when I was in the UK. I checked BMW's site and they seem to be a few k cheaper over there as well especially the diesel models seem to be just the same price as petrol.

A better question is why do people in the major metros buy M series when their average rate of speed is 5 mph. 328 or 335 will suffice.

If I was getting a BMW car I would like either a 3 series convertible or a 6 series convertible or a 7 series. In any event I would not go M series and it would be at least 3 years / 50k miles old. With a 6 or 7 series probably at least 5 years / 80k miles old.

Also who cares about the options that much particularly if you are buying new. I would never deck out a new car with options.. watch a $40k car become a $55k car just by adding a few accessories. Then when you go to sell it those extra $15k in options bring you an extra $1k.. I do look for options on a used car since they usually don't affect the price much.

entry level bmw/mercedes owners are typically young people who just got an entry level job out of college and want to prove themselves to the world, when everyone else is actually laughing at them.

My dad just bought a brand new F-150, expensive AF. And my brown friend thinks his 2007 Mercedes costs more just because of the brand on it, when in reality its the lowest model that doesn't cost that much.

Its just for people to brag that they have an expensive brand, but drive the cheapest option.

Lots of the entry models are the same price as Hondas, Chevy's ETC

Not hating on the brand just the people who think because they buy a used old bmw, Mercedes they think they're rich.

Some sloot i know just financed a 2010 BMW 328i from some hole in the wall dealer. She is all bragging about it on FB/instagram like she is balling out of control posting all this motivational bs like "If you work hard enough, youll get rewarded". Saw the plate frame of the dealer so i looked it up and they had it listed for $10,500.

considering 99% of people get their cars on those stupid 3 year pay monthly schemes, why does it matter?

and can confirm..

Audi A1, Mercedes A class, BMW 1 series probably the 3 most common cars nowadays amongst 20-23 year olds lol
I appreciate well thought out subtle trolling.

Just paid off my e60. Best car I've ever owned so far.

I don't care too much for 3 series unless its a 335 or M. Benz doesn't interest me much either, but I plan on test driving one eventually.

Drive what you like.

I agree buying the entry level BMW/Benz is chitty. Brb 320i, honda civic in a BMW body. The worst is seeing a 2016 320i because you know they leased it. Why even buy a BMW if you're at the dealership asking for cloth interior and a lawnmower engine?

But the higher levels, not even close. Brb 335i blowing your doors off completely stock. No comparison between domestics/asians and BMWs in terms of drive/enjoyment IMO. Driven a civic, grand Cherokee SRT, Cadillac XLR. BMW does it for me.

Won't be driving a luxury car until I'm older and have a paid off house and can *afford* to finance a high end car model or at least get a car loan. Only time I'll finance/get a car loan is when it's my only payments. Lol @ people stuck with car loans or payments on top of student debt, house payments etc.. just lmao.

Until then I'm all for driving chitty cars I paid for cash... and I consider myself a car guy.

Cringe. Just lmao @ financing a 6 year old BMW that is easily affordable with cash. I'm sure her financial future will have no repercussions though since she's a girl and will end up finding a sugar daddy to buy her way through life.

My wife has a BMW X5. We got kids so yeah it comes in handy. It's paid off and now my wife wants a Mercedes GLS SUV. The 3rd row would be nice but not crazy about the price. I'll get her a GMC Acadia or Chevy Traverse. Time go go American and save as well.
