From what I gather from peeps I know the average for men and women is somewhere around 3-5. At least in my circles.

Median is a better indicator to go by for this sort of thing and the median of 8 makes sense even if you're not that great with girls. Consider that it's a lifetime, so even if you only got laid like once every 5 years, you'd hit that number by the time you were old as fuk.

In my close circle of friends (mid 20s) most guys are at 10+ and most girls are around the same, though they might not admit it. Fairly attractive people but not all alpha chads. I've got several male friends above 50, and a girl I work with is probably over 100. A few got married to the fourth or fifth they hooked up with.
Anyways, this study sucks because of the self reported nature. To me an average of somewhere around 10-15 seems more likely for both genders.

There's such a wide range that it's hard to come up with an average. I would say median is a lot more accurate because of extremes at both ends. I have FA friends that are at 0 or 1. I have Chad friends that rack em up. Over the course of a life I think 10-15 is common when you take into account all the FAs out there

Where someone lives is a HUGE factor in this survey. Someone from NYC or whatever big city will have a much higher count than someone from a small town. I'm from a small town and I know more people that have a count <5 than >5. I'm not sure but I think even the "chads" are <10.

It doesn't matter if only 5 of those men have sex, because the total sample is 10 men. Worldwide the sex ratio is reportedly less than <2% difference.
The reason partner count isn't exactly 1:1, is because some countries/cities have different sex ratios. Worldwide it is about 50.4% men and 49.6% women. The only real reason to have a deviation larger then that is
1) Not surveying enough people
2) People constantly die, and the guy who slept with 30 women, or the guy who slept with 0 women might die tommorow, while his/her partner(s) are still kicking around. Still shouldn't be a big enough contributor given rounding.
The mean is concerned with the distribution of sex amongst those 10 men.
Where the median would be 1 as 50% of men have less or equal and 50% of men have equal or more.
