OP just dont get them on sugary drinks to begin with, water and milk should be their staples, get them used to having a glass of water with every meal, once on that soda train its really hard to get off.

soda is not okay at any age. i drink perhaps a liter every six months. if you want to get fat, at least do it with nutritional food that doesn't rot your teeth at least.

Ever seen parents attempt to feed nutella to a few month old baby? This happened when I went to visit them with my family. That's crazy.

Lmao @ anyone defending the mum here. Its not like the kid will enjoy it as a "treat" either. At that age they arent exposed to all the bs so they will be happy if they just have some food. Me and my cousins drank soda a lot as kids and we are all fine now but if you get started that young its very easy to get hooked on.
As someone who works with abused kids that is not child abuse ..the ignoring and telling him to shut up and stop asking questions would bother me more

Doesn't matter what you ban as little kids, how nutritious their diets are, it isn't going to mean they aren't going to decide for themselves as they grow in independent thought. TFW when omnivores turn into fussy eaters seemingly to spite you.

I wouldn't personally give a young kid soda but I've seen parents put coke in baby bottles so there's always worse.

But unless you see real abuse OP, or are in a professional or personal context where your advice is warranted, keep your looks and opinions to yourself is a good rule to live by

My dad used to let me take a sip of his pop back when i was 3 and every once in a while give me a little (not too much obviously). Did not really start actually drinking it until i was around 10. I never really asked to drink it. But me and my buddies would start taking it out of the fridge and drinking it around that time. Parents never really seemed to care as long as i wasn't drinking it all the time

Ideally never. American soda is straight wack. Maybe a Jarritos etc. once in a blue moon. Souce: white boy

Almost everything--all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure--these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.

it's hard to break habits thou

if you did it your whole life then you just get accustomed to it

Lol so the logic most of these supporters have presented is... It's bad, but it's okay because I as a parent sometimes give/do bad things to my kids/I was allowed to have it as a kid/I've seen worse. Holy potatoes. At the end of the day soda is bad for you, making it a bad judgement call to give it to your two year old child. We're not talking about a seven year old. This child can barely speak and is likely still in diapers. Giving anything harmful to a baby or a toddler is wrong and poor parenting.

In this thread people highly underestimate other people's knowledge on nutrition.

A lot of people don't even know coke is bad unless they were told on the news.

People at my work still don't even drink water.

soda isn't "harmful" by default bro. Just like anything, too much of it can be harmful. Learn balance and moderation.

Brb give a kid a soda, cake, and ice cream on his birhtday = harmful and poor parenting

Funny thing is, it seems most kids are trained to consume unhealthy chit by their parents. I've known a few people who were anti-sodas nazi's and they essentially never really allowed their kids to drink it. At around 8-10ish kids get a taste and think its gross.

Personally I don't care one way or the other. The average American is stupid AF and their kid's are going to be raised eating frozen pizza rolls and chips anyways. If you have kids give them proper nutrition so they can be healthy, aesthetic, and athletic.

Would not allow them to drink it tbh, they're better off without it. I know as a child it seems like a nazi thing to do, but when they grow up they'll get it.

It's a parents responsibility to make that decision. If your 4 year old is drinking 2 litres of coke daily and eating mcdonalds all day then you're a chitty parent but if it's just a treat once in a while and in moderation then it's not a big deal. Other things like TV or letting your 5 year old kid play games on a phone all day == bad for your kid too, but again it's about moderation. It might work better in a certain situation to let a kid watch some TV and play some games than to try and restrict them completely. Same for chit like soda.

Me personally though? If and when I have kids they'll only be drinking water until they're at least like 13-15~ if not all the way til 18+ (I'm gonna encourage them to drink only water but if I have a 16 year old and he's like "Yeah I wanna buy a coke" or w/e I'm not gonna be like NO, NEVER!!) - then my policy would be something like: if we're out for a meal at a restaurant or something you can have a glass of coke or w/e, but at home you drink water.

That's just my take though, everyone is different, and for all I know my opinion will change by the time I have kids/if I do.
