I have no idea what they were chanting.

I really lol at people who think Fraternities confer some sort of prestige.
I go to a school of 50k+ people. Frat life is existent here. If you are in a fraternity or sorority, you're not viewed with status. You're viewed as a less than average IQ with most likely a 2.0 GPA pleb.
100% serious.

Upsides:
-weekly socials with sororities (i.e. get laid at least once a week)
-having a house to party/host events/do whatever you want in
-large network of friends (at leastsomebodyis always doing something fun any given day of the week, you can tag along)
-professional networking (I've hit up alumni grad students and was given A+ advice for getting into grad schools, what professors in my dept. to hit up for undergrad research, etc.)
-just plain doing fun stuff: tubing in the river, road trips to visit other chapters at other schools, poker nights, etc.
-visting another school? just hit up your chapter there, they'll give you a fun time and a place to crash
Being in a frat is excellent.
I'm contrasting it w/ sororities because they don't have half the friendship we do, so about half the stuff above never happens in sororities because they all hate each other behind their backs

Much more respect for military dudes that go in as a unit, not knowing each other, not pretending to be friends, then coming out of it with a strong bond because of the experiences they went through together.
Friendship and respect is earned. Its not paid for or artificially made.

Like I said in my earlier post, many of these girls tried to get in a good word with me since they knew I was FratBrah's roommate. From the moment they opened their mouth I could tell it was all fake bs talk coming out their goddamn mouths, just to get in with FratBrah. Almost all of these girls were stuck up too. I remember one time we were at the bar (me, FratBrah, and 2 of our other roommates). I mustered up some courage to talk to some sorority sloot I saw at that pool party and the bitch didn't even look at me or say anything or respond to me. Few minutes later I went with FratBrah and the fuking ho couldn't stop running her damn mouth. That's when I realized the truth srs

There's nothing at all fake about frat brotherhood. Like the other brah said, you spend you're 4 years having fun with these guys... how are you NOT going to be friends with them? And that's what pledging is even for. You have a whole semester literally designed to have you get to know the brothers. In addition to usual expectations of going to every social event you can, pledge meetings, volunteer stuff, we were required to do an (at least) hour long meeting with each brother in a sober setting for bonding, e.g. grabbing lunch, hiking, playing video games, or whatever. Brotherhood is VERY important to frats, they fall apart if they aren't all friends.

That's exactly how the sorority sloots are at my school. My gf was in a sorority but luckily she wasn't a try hard like a lot of girls in her pledge class and didn't fuk frat guys every week. Pretty cringe how mob like girls are about it. A lot more chill frat guys but I don't really see a reason to join one unless you want to go the easy route to get laid

I'd also like to point out the irony in the last sentence of your post. 41 years old and teched out of your mind, and calling college kids out for being insecure. Okay.
