Some yacht owners also use it to avoid paying taxes.......I read somewhere that if you stay at sea for a certain amount of time and not docked, a country can't claim you live there, thus avoiding some type of tax burden

What would typically happen is this:
1) Rich guy who can write it off as business expense and take 10-15 years to pay it off or whatever.
2) Rich guy who can afford to pay most if not all in cash.
3) Buncha rich-ish guys who go in part ways and set up a time share set up.
All of these examples with the added bonus of leasing them out to people equals not a bad investment.
You think rappers own all the cars, boats, planes in the video? Fuk naw, they rent it from aforementioned people in my examples. A big ass yacht to rent for a music video and to get it to its destination would be upwards of 200k.....thats just for a day or 2.

LOL at not having wooden accents on the interior of your yacht.

For the people that can afford these things, its like an average person buying a Honda Civic.

Some countries don’t allow entry with a weapon on board or require a certain protocol in handling weapons. For example, firearms must be declared on arrival to any port in Italy and non-declaration means imprisonment.
Yachtsmen visiting Fiji must also declare all weapons, then hand these weapons over to authorities for the duration of the port stay or risk a prison sentence; they then need to notify port officials of their time of departure so that the weapons can be returned one hour prior. Firearms also will be held by customs for the duration of a yacht’s stay in the Cayman Islands unless the vessel is fitted with a safe that can be sealed. Yachts entering Mexican waters require a permit to carry firearms and/or ammunition issued prior to arrival through a Mexican embassy or consulate.
