So from my understanding the parents and friends of the family knew how he was feeling and chose to do nothing. Why not charge them? It seems like both the kid and his gf realized that no one is going to help him. You could tell she was trying to help at first but after realizing no one cares for this kid she gave up.

I agree.

For the first few days of recorded text messages, it seems like she was genuinely trying to get him help. After a little while, the tone of the texts changed to her trying to convince him to commit suicide.

Now, what if instead of changing her tone at that middle point, she said "fuk it, you're a lost cause, I'm done with you" and then she goes no contact. Going no contact with his girlfriend when he was already contemplating suicide would probably have made him off himself even sooner than he did. Would she still have been charged with manslaughter? Where does someone else's responsibility begin and end with dealing with someone else who is fuked up? It's quite a slippery slope.
