I'm not giving them any of my info to see if I was impacted because it is pointless. I monitor my credit through my credit card and they alert me to any positive or negative changes.

150M people's info leaked... Unlikely that they would find me out of all those but who knows, not going to take my chances, cause I know it will be a HUGE pain in the ass to situate everything back to normal once it happens.

Already froze everything, hoping for the best now.

I got AAA credit monitoritn free. Love it. Any changes to my account, tells me immediately.

no 100% protection but better than nothing. Govt better make them pay and make HUGE changes to all 3 bureaus so if ur id is stolen, you're not spending YEARS undoing the damage and dealing with creditors.

The rich and middle class are the most concerned, so expect govt to do something. It's poor people govt does'nt give a chit about.

Yes unlikely but glad you understand the seriousness of all this.

- I took it a step further and got all new account numbers from my credit cards and new account numbers for my banking.

For those that haven't freezed yourcredit, just do it

- can't post links yet: Just google Credit freeze followed by the name of the 3 credit companies and you can do it online

How is it so hard to understand what I just said. Capital one sends me emails about my credit when it moves up or down on a weekly basis. If someone does anything that impacts my credit which would include opening another line of credit, hard/soft checks, or a line of my credit goes unpaid ALL OF THIS triggers a change in credit WHICH I WOULD BE ALERTED TO.

Good luck being a 40 y/o miscer running a crappy website.

There's nothing wrong with open source software provided you prioritize patching of critical bugs like these.

Amazon's ELB did this in the hours following heartbleed, updating to the patched OpenSSL

https://aws.amazon.com/security/secu...ed-bug-update/

Not everything needs to be homegrown. And even if it is, that definitely doesn't guarantee you're free of vulnerabilities. You could argue the opposite actually

Its a scam. You can enter a fake name and a fake SS into the "CHECKER" and it will come back as compromised. They are getting people to sign up for their credit card protection service. Then one year from now you will get a bill in the mail.

Also why would you try waive your rights to sue them? For a 1 year of credit monitoring by a company that got hacked?

I verified that if you put in the fake credentials it came come back as a compromised. Also look at their stock sells as a company, they had a huge stock sell off last year, when the stock took a hit they bought it back low, next year they are looking at significant profit.

the capital one credit monitoring gets it's info from doing soft pulls on your credit from the 3 credit agency...(soft checks don't get reported) this is the reason why the credit score they give you isn't as accurate as you might or like to think

- For this situation you should not depend on a 3rd party to give you the most update-to-date accurate info.

but hey, you can do whatever THE FAWK YOU WANNA do

Don't try and explain it to him, he knows it all and his Cap one card (which I have several with that service) gonna save him. The loan someone gets on his info will be LOL worthy and some people deserve what they get.

yea as long as you're not apply for any loans or credit cards...It's def a good idea to do. But understand that when you are going to want to apply for something it might take a few days to week for them to un-freeze everything.

1. That's only true if you enter a credit card AND forget to cancel before the end of the year. Nobody is forcing you to sign up.

2. The terms state that you don't forfeit your right to enter a class action.

Open to correction here.

Well you can't continuously hard pull becuase that would hurt your credit right?

So your options are to either freeze, or use CreditKarma and identity protection services to monitor.

it shouldn't be a problem because i'm not a female who applies for credit cards on a random shopping day. All my purchases are planned and If I need a car it would have been planned months in advance. I have three lines of credit, Chase, Paypal, and Discover. I'm fine with these options as I pay off balances in full every month.

Good luck being a 40 y/o miscer running a crappy website.
my brother has his social security security # stolen from him. 6 or 7 other people are using his Social Security. IRS says nothing they can do about it.

he got an interview and got hired pending background check, background check came back and failed due to his social security being linked to these 6-7 people.

he lost the job cause of it.

brb IRS is gay and decides you owe taxes and withholds refunds because some illegal is earning money at a job with your social security and not filing any taxes... my bro gets letters from the IRS asking for thousands, he calls but nothing they can do about the other illegals using his social.. weird huh?

oh yea someone can file taxes under your social and steal your refund..

captial one may tell you something happened, but once someone is using your social there is nothing the government currently does to fight back against this.

So your options are to either freeze, or use CreditKarma and identity protection services to monitor.
- yes hard pulls will lower your score.

- yes and freezing is your best bet (unless you are currently apply for loans/credit card).

- But definitely do the whole credit monitoring thing especially since they took over a month to come out and admit what happened. So, if you haven't been affected yet you could and it can happen at anytime (tonight, next week, next year, 15 years from now,,,etc)

This is why this is such a big deal, because you just don't now when you're going to get fawked.

You brother might be the perfect candidate to get a new SSN. If I were you I would let him know he has this option
