Ayyy Strawhat question for you: is there an equivalent "black food" (sorry, that's a kind of chitty term but I can't think of a better one right now) in the UK?

Like here in the States Watermelon, Fried Chicken etc are considered "black foods" but does that hold true in the UK? You guys have a different spread of ethnic foods than we do.

I guess I would have to be there, they aren't letting out the intangibles like did he do it with a intent at cringe sense of humor or was he innocent. Trying to be creative/bold with his snack choice.

I guess they saw he was trying to be clever and it was clear there was a tie between the fact the workers are black and the watermelon instead of donuts.

If there was that layer its more a testament to his lame and retard sense of humor which often is a housing for racial thoughts.

But if it was just some guy bringing a watermelon innocently and thinking its a good party snack and other projecting on to him "why does it gotta be watermelon?" then thats different

I doubt it was that innocent and I'm sure they could tell he meant it as some lame passive aggressive joke otherwise they wouldn't have fired him like that.

Maybe he meant something by it, but maybe not. Firing was too far IMO. Maybe should be sent to a different station.

Worked at an insurance company in my 20s and we were going to have a summer pot luck...everybody bring something. Said I would bring watermelon and a group of 5 black co-workers (not an all black office) started questioning me about it. Told them the truth....4th of July = Watermelon, at least in my family.

Never occurred to me that I could offend people with fruit but they were giving me serious side eye.

yeah but its not cool to joke like that it essentially at the end of the day still spreads and propagates racism and thats how people learn, promote and pass on racial stereotypes.

So just because poor/ghetto/minority people are racist with each other as a form of endearment, it doesn't help the cause as a whole and it results in masses of people getting treated "different" and have a weird life experience.

Having said that, I bet you those black firefighters, even after they got offended, I bet they still finished off that watermelon in secret after he left..... SHIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTTTTTT

Yeah even outside of race, theres also the layer of being "that guy" that comes in with his off odd sense of humor, not knowing what the status quo is, who the big swinging dicks are, who are the alphas, whats everyone sene of humor etc...

Watermelon is one of the healthiest fruits and is considered a "natural viagra". I don't see how any hot blooded male would object to this fruit.

And also, I'm surprised that the fire department is plagued with racial tensions...does that mean the firefighters can't trust or rely on each other during a fire alarm? I thought the brotherhood comes first before anything else.
