I have a ton of fun with my Remington 870 shooting clay pigeons, don't really see the need for an AR

Not anti-gun or anything, but this is expensive as hell

I really think the disconnect is in core beliefs, not in real world application.

> You don't see a need because more than likely you wont actually need an AR-15 to defend yourself or a loved one. And I'll agree with that.
> But its also a core right and belief which this country was founded upon. And much like Nuclear weapons its the deterrence. 300million+ weapons in circulation which will ensure our Gov't CANNOT and WILL NOT even turn tyrannical and or into a police state. + the Off chance a well cordinated 3+ person burglary occurs in my home, I want my ar-15 to help even my 1/3 odds.

I've pointed it out before:
- Guns have been around for hundred of years & School shootings JUST AS LONG
- "Machine Guns" Have been around for ATLEAST 100+ years
- Its only since maybe ~2000 that School Shootings in the USA have become a problem.

It'sVERY CLEARthat the gun/school relationshipHAS NOT CHANGED.What has changed? Society... The way we raise our kids, the beliefs we instill in our kids, the way we prepare them for the real world, the things they hear and we tell them.

So instead of trying to revert back to tried and true method which Made us the Greatest country in the world the last 100 years. We're trying to progress forward which clearly has been ruining us, but are we really so far invested as a country in progress that we will blindy keep throwing **** at a wall to see what sticks?

I think we roll back the clocks 30 years, and try to start this entire "internet era" all over again. Soy boys are running rampant, not able to handle the real world when they become young adults, and they're snapping. THANKS SOFT ASS PARENTS.
Are you not entertained?

Let's see an AR pistol build kit. I already have the 80% lower.

I can't recall what covers you could put on the buffer tube. Was Sig's SB15 brace okay'd by ATF? Was it fine as long as you didn't shoulder it?

What about a buffer tubeless option? Buddy had a EXTAR EXP-556 and that was pretty fun albeit pretty useless.

I have my AR15 setup for home defense. An $800 AR that you can shoot at 25 yds or 300 yards at about 30 cents a trigger pull is a lot of fun.

Bookmarked for later. In NY so state of piss but going to look into it. I really like ARs. Too bad I have a feeling the safe act applies to them.

Thanks as always Ike.

You have two options.

1: Featureless rifle with removable magazine (fixed stock, no pistol grip, no muzzle device, no front grip, no bayo lug, etc.)

2: Full featured rifle with non-removable magazine.

On my current build I went with option #2 because reloading with a speed loader thru the ejection port is now a viable option and reloading by pulling out the rear take down pin and pivoting the upper and loading from the top isnt that big of a deal.

A stripped AR lower is a legal, non featured rifle under NYS law and they are easy to assemble with the proper parts kit. Also most gun shops in NY carry NY legal ARs on the shelf now that there are many options as far as NY legal ARs go.

The solution here is to get a lower now. Get the lower and you're not out a lot of money and you can buy the rest of it later on or as funds become available. Pick up a fcg during an Easter sale, stock over 4th of July sale, upper on Black Friday, etc.

There's always some kind of sale going, and it's very easy to keep acquiring quality parts over time.

I built my AR 10 over 6 months.

When you're looking at optics, you're trading weight/speed for magnification/precision.

At the low weight, fast end of the spectrum, you've got options like:

Expensive: Aimpoint T1/2
Less Expensive: Aimpoint PRO, Trijicon MRO, EOTech (a lot of people have lost faith in them since the lawsuit)
Inexpensive: Holosun, Vortex Sparc AR, PA Micro, Sig Romeo

Anything below that is probably "cheap" more so than inexpensive, or won't have the kind of battery life you're looking for.

Scopes have a big range, but you're basically looking at a 1-4 or a 1-6.

Burris, Trijicon (Accupoint for battery-free illumination, Accupower for battery), Vortex, Kahles, Swarovski (used only, their 1-6 has been discontinued), and Nightforce all have great optics in the 1-4 and 1-6 range. I use an Accupoint (TR-24 w/ red triangle).

Fixed power scopes like the ACOG, Vortex Spitfire (in 1x or 3x), and Primary Arms fixed power are all great options. They're going to be shorter and lighter than the other scopes, and will also avoid problems that red dots have for people with certain eye conditions.

I know jack chit about AR's other than 1. I want one and 2. Someone once told me to buy a Colt.

If I did the math right on your build it comes to ~900

Your Colt Trooper is 950 + sites is $1000
Buds has the Colt AR15A4 for $1050

For $100-150 more I get a Colt. Is there any benefit to buying these pre-made ones other than convenience? Which one is a better gun? The Colts or the one you built?

Furthermore are those 2x the gun of a M&P Sport that is $510 if I'm a casual shooter that keeps it cleaned and lubed?

So, Canada has 1/10 the population. By the way, the Czech Republic has very loose firearms laws (looser than Canada) and has 1/2 their homicide rate, same with Switzerland.

The gun in the OP came in at $830. I think you missed that the $280 worth of stuff from Aero Precision is $50 off. Colt makes a great rifle, sometimes you'll see that Trooper setup for sale at about $750, at which price it is the best deal on the market, period. At $830 for the Aero, however, you're getting a smoother shooting gun (midlength w/ H2 Buffer)

Are these rifles worth twice as much as a S&W M&P Sport II?

The most important part of a rifle is the barrel. The barrel determines the accuracy of the gun, more than any other factor. Having the gun be free floated also dramatically improves the mechanical repeatability of your shots. On the rifle in the OP and the Colt Trooper, barrel is free floated in the handguard, while on the M&P Sport, the handguard is connected to the barrel. This results in holding the handguard changing the barrels harmonics, which negatively affects accuracy.

The better barrel, free-floated rail, and gas system are definitely worth $300.

EDIT: Also, Colt's LE6920 series is a good rifle, particularly the Trooper. I would put the Aero build on the first page ahead of any of their other builds though. Colt makes a build called an OEM-2 which allows you to put a free float rail of your choice on one of their stripped guns.

They require removing the barrel to mount the rail, however, and still have a carbine gas system rather than a midlength.

Not that I can find. For instance, the colt LE6920 is under 1k and it's teh modern reference AR-15. I can't figure out why people build other than simple preference.

I'd probably build just because spacing out the part purchases makes it so easy.

The build in the OP costs ~170 less than the Colt does (once you put sights on it). Building also has the advantage of getting the parts you want in the first place, rather than getting a box full of take-off parts.

Edit - ah nice I see it’s slowly turning into a gun laws debate. Comparing Canada to the USA lewl. Canada and the states are completely different bruhs stop comparing them.

Not to mention that while building it yourself you'll learn more than just how the trigger works.

You can definitely get a Canada legal AR, it will just have a 5-rd mag. Any AR15 can be free floated, you'd justhave to get the rail.

So you would consider your build more desirable than the Trooper?

Seems generally parallel quality but better stock, better charging handle, and mid length vs carbine length which some people prefer and is better on a 16" (even though carbine is perfectly fine and probably 99% of 16" AR type rifles are carbine gas) so if it's also less expensive and you don't mind a little bit of work, and aren't worried about the prancing pony on the side for resale (keep the damn thing) should be good to go

Absolutely. If you have the extra money for the Trooper, I'd take the money and put it into a better trigger (Geissele SSA, SD-C, SSA-E, or SD-E).

Just wait for this website to have a 25% sale (happens a lot):https://geissele.com/

If you're unsure, the best answer is to build out the OP rifle and also buy one of those Troopers and see for yourself. And keep both of them then.
