Reasonable agnostics simply don't care about changing anyone's mind. Militant atheists are as annoying as any other militant/argumentative group.

Have to agree. Outright total atheism shuts you off to new input and ideas. The honest approach is to realize that everyone is guessing.

most people i know that are out-spoken atheists are miserable in life/rotters.

People tend to use atheism to boost their own ego...

You can only have the exact same arguments for years until you eventually get bored. You can pretty much google all the arguments and debates you'd like at this point. Everybody knows you aren't gonna really change anyone's mind online, we just like to reaffirm our own beliefs.

Being a bigoted, religious conservatard is what's "edgy" nowadays. Don't worry though, libtards will come back and continue the ebb and flow of prevalent thought.

It's because most atheists realize that attacking religion is to take the lowest-hanging fruit possible. Religion has absolutely nothing with which to back itself up.

The only ones left attacking religion are the same leftists who use words like "conservatard" and "bigoted".

Atheists are either very stupid or very angry. The ones that are both are the most unstable people you will meet.

Their attacks on “religious”people always seem to focus on their equivalent in the religious world- stupid and/or angry.

Last week while giving a school friend a ride, he told me that if I ever had any problem God could help me with anything. I as an agnostic atheist replied that I appreciated what he said but that I am an atheist. He then said, "but God is real" to which I repeated what I said that I appreciated his good intentions and briefly told him about my spiritual/religious life, (raised catholic, my early teens was an atheist just out of rebellion, later a protestant friend convinced me into believing again, and now back to atheism and no going back). It ended in a "all good bro c ya later". I didn't argue or explained myself further because I have learned that religious people are hard to reason with, for most it all comes down to what the Bible or whatever holy book says (Gods word); and they can't question that. I am of the opinion that religion is irrational but still I am respectful of others beliefs and avoid touching on the subject.

I think most people who say they are atheist are really agnostic, in the sense that they don't really care.

The only reason (imo) to be atheist is if you feel that religion is a detriment to society. While there are arguments against religion in this case I think most of the problems lie with religious fanatics. But this is nothing new, in almost every area of popular discussion the nutjobs on the end of the spectrums are the worst

The most annoying thing to me is they will quote the bible but completely cherry pick it. If you're going to follow it, follow 100% or don't call yourself whatever religion it is you're following. Westboro baptist are nuts but I respect that they stick to their guns.

Hmm, I should have chosen my words little more carefully lol. I wasn't trying to discredit you. There are people that study the bible pretty deeply and still come out with the same circular roundabout reasoning mirin247 mentioned. No amount of bible study will change a persons reasoning unless they keep an open mind while reading it. He very well could have been speaking to a person that didn't read or study their bible, but circular reasoning like that usually comes from a lack critical or independent thinking, especially when it comes to religious beliefs. The belief in God/Religion is all some people have to hold on to, and any amount of logic you throw at them would be ignored anyways. The only reason I mentioned my background because I used to be that way, and I encountered a lot of people who thought that way when I had to go knock on peoples doors every damned Saturday morning.

Bashing Islam is in vogue right now so Christians got a reprieve from Youtube atheists. Their efforts are just more scattered.

It's social suicide to be Atheist. You can't be religious either but you need to 'be spiritual' and 'have some belief in god'

I'm personally Catholic.

it's the case in political discussion, anyhow. forums like the R/P used to be full of people criticizing religion in general and atheists bashing Christianity in most corners of the internet. now because of Islamic extremism atheists have focused on Islam instead.

We're entering the last days, I think alot of people sense that alot of sh 1 t will go down the coming 50 years. Just look at Europe.

I'm from Sweden, I was born Christian but raised Atheist. I am from the most secularized country in the world and even I turned to Christ.

People can bash me all they want, they can show me studies, books, quotes, but they can go fu q themselves. Jesus is Lord!

Yup. It's the same reason to support religion because you feel it is a benefit to society. I don't think an atheist society would turn out the way atheists think it would. They have this believe that all the good things we cherish now in our moderate Judeo-Christian society would also exist in an atheist society. Such as monogamy, family structure, anti- ****philia, charity, ten commandments etc. An atheist society would not have come up with it on their own without the influence of religion. Their laws would be based off primal thought, instinct. How do we know having sex with minors would be illegal? Or cheating on your spouse would be frowned upon? Or society supporting two parent households? Or giving to charity? There is no way to know. You don't have to believe in God and that's never how I would base my argument on. I would base it on results. And clearly a society of moderate Judeo-Christian people has had the best result so far. An atheist would rather live in a moderate religious society than in an atheist society, guaranteed.

You do have atheism twisted because you don't even seem to understand the definition. Although most Athiests probably do subscribe to the big bang theory, an athiest can believe in another theory and still be an athiest, basically unrelated. Athiesm means one thing and one thing only, lack of belief in God. People also misunderstand the term agnostic, gnosticism is related to knowledge and thiesm relates to belief, so if you personally dont believe in god but you dont claim to be 100% certain and admit the possibility there is one, you are an agnostic athiest. If you believe in god and claim with 100% certainty there is a god with no other possibilities you are a gnostic theist. The terms athiest and agnostic are not mutually exclusive.

decreased discussion on the misc maybe. Not like people have "found" religion/faith in god in the past couple years.

Maybe mods do their job more and put religious threads in the religion/politics section.
