My grandmother (persian side) found out my granddad was cheating on her back in the 70s, my mum told me a story about how her mum made her drive around in a little 2cv tailing my grandfather while he was cruising around with a mistress. Despite all that she stuck with him, different era and culture I guess when families stuck together no matter what. These days no one bats an eye if a woman destroys a family because she "fell out of love" but somehow a man destroying a family by cheating justifies murder? Can't have it both ways.

Sorry, it was 63%.

https://www.law.umich.edu/newsandinf...sparities.aspx
https://goodmenproject.com/ethics-va...o-prison-mrzs/
According to a recent study by Sonja Starr, an assistant law professor at the University of Michigan, men on average receive 63 percent longer prison sentences than women who commit comparable crimes. Reinforcing data accumulated from numerous other surveys on the subject, Starr also found that women are twice as likely to avoid incarceration if convicted of a crime – which may explain why 90% of the prison population is male – and estimated that the gender gap in sentencing could be as much as six times as large as that between white and non-whites (more on that in a moment). Despite this trend, the existing tendency among progressives has been to push for changes that only exacerbate the problem, such as the concerted effort among British feminists to abolish female prisons altogether.

For example, a simple assault charge can carry up to a 6 month sentence in jail. If you are affiliated with a gang, you get slapped with a gang enhancement which carries a state minimum of 1 year (but federal up to 3 years), so that 6 month sentence just became an 18 month sentence.

To my understanding (I'd have to dig for other articles with more data on the Starr study), all of those factors were taken into account, and women are still given 63% lesser sentencing. It's similar to the white/black gap, where black people are given longer sentences than white people for the same crimes.

1. Yes, you devote your whole life to someone and then they treat you like trash. Only think this in a marriage. Play Stupid games etc.
2. No she should have been in their for life. Still worth it though. Needs to 15 years for men too though, and less if its a crime of passion for both genders.

Full disclosure, society is morally bankrupt right now, mostly because everyone cheats on their SO and does whatever the please with no regard to anyone else. If a few cheaters get murdered here and there and that helps steer things back around I am willing to take those deaths as acceptable casualties.

Not sure if you guys (and Bobby) are just playing stupid to troll people or what, but it's pretty clear that people are salty because a person murdered another person on purpose in cold blood and is walking around free only fifteen years later.

In this case it's a woman and there are other implications that some are hanging their hats on. I'm not a woman hater like most of the misc, so that part is far less interesting to me.

But in my perfect world, no one kills another person on purpose in cold blood (not in self defense) and walks around free in fifteen years. Probably not ever.

Where does intent come into play here vis-a-vis the law?

I get that it wasn't premeditated murder. But what about during the act when murder seemingly becomes the intent. For comparisons sake there have been cases when a person doesn't get hit with premeditated murder when being involved in a fight that the other person dies in. Something freak happens like the person is KOd and then boom falls and hits head on pavement.

In this case the woman runs over the husband. Stops. Reverses. Runs him over. Stops. Runs him over...etc.

This was all caught on video. Killing the person sounds like the driver's intention.

Not every murder is intentional. Sometimes there are mitigating circumstances (such as an abusive situation or a mutual fight that led to a shooting).

There are no mitigating circumstances here. Theres just a woman who got pissed off and ran someone over repeatedly with a car.

These aren't the kinds of people we want walking around freely.

i was just trolling the idiot that was trying to say a man would have gotten a harsher sentence. I think the punishment for taking a life should be the death penalty but that gets a little dicey when there are wrongful convictions and stuff like that happening. In reality she probably was well behaved in prison or she wouldnt have been let out early. Im assuming she has no prior convictions or a criminal record due to her former job as a dentist. Shes not a threat to society or any other chit like that. prisons are overcrowded and underfunded as it is

I don't know much about trials - but off top I'm guessing emotional response to adultery is a consideration when sentencing someone in her position. Same reason heat of passion crime is punished less harshly than premeditated.

And of course some defendants play the odd sob story which may be true or not, such as being abused by their spouse.

Not defending her at all though - just making sense of how courts come to these conclusions.

Not just murdered another person, but slowly and deliberately murdered another person IN FRONT OF HIS CHILD. She ran him over repeatedly while his daughter was in the car with her.

I can't imagine the thought process that can reason the release of a violent offender while ignoring the containment of non-violent offenders for longer. I know the husband was a POS cheater, but that's no excuse to take someone's dad away. I have a hard time justifying 15 years as a proper deterrent for this type of action. I am pretty sure she would make the same decision again.

She was sentenced to 20 years, she served 15 and was paroled. That is a legal issue. People can be salty all they want, these are the parameters set by our judicial system. Her husband was cheating, she lost her chit after confronting him and his mistress at the hotel they got married at. If the murder was premeditated, sure, but It wasn't like she sat down for months planning out an elaborate way of murdering her husband. You have Kenneth Peacock who murdered his wife for cheating in 1984, and he got 18 months. Then you have James Lynn Jr. who had his murder conviction overturned for killing his wife, and Anthony Simoneau who had his conviction reduced from 25 to 11 years for killing his wife in the "heat of passion".

While I don't agree with the draconian laws, and sentencing structure when dealing with drug sentencing, I don't wish this woman a life behind bars because she did something a lot of people would consider doing when put in the same position.

Err, premeditated murder is First Degree Murder punishable by 25yrs-Life.

Not sure why you think 15 years applies to 1st degree.
