OP does seem outlandish in his depiction. Though I do feel I have an understanding of insidious toxic behavior at work, and it's concerning. So the depiction might be more of a nominal issue. Overall you're just supposed to take this kinda stuff in stride and have a rational sense of accountability. They’re like NPCs in a video game regarding how limited and unaware they are. And I realize that a lot of people (most people?) probably think that they’re the smart/self-aware one unlike “everybody else” (e.g. the Dunning–Kruger effect), but self-awareness and intelligence are definitely measurable and a lot of people clearly lack it. You can tell when you’re interacting with people who are definitely all there and operating on your wavelength. For what it’s worth, I consider myself to have been NPC status until around age 20/21, which makes sense since a lot of self-awareness and knowledge comes with age and the part of our brain that gives us that meta-awareness of our sense of self isn’t finished developing until around age 25.

For what it’s worth, I consider myself to have been NPC status until around age 20/21, which makes sense since a lot of self-awareness and knowledge comes with age and the part of our brain that gives us that meta-awareness of our sense of self isn’t finished developing until around age 25.
I try not to be a dick about it. I’d be just as much of a potato if I were in those exact shoes and I’m probably a potato compared to many others right now and definitely compared to my future self.
