31. Tiredness level correlates directly with amount of sleep, quality of sleep and stress levels while at work. Same line of work as you, I work 5pm to 5AM though. Sometimes I get to sleep at 5:30AM and I'm up and good at noon. If I had a chit night, not enough sleep the night prior, or disturbed sleep then I'll crash till around 1:30PM and wake up feeling like a truck hit me.

Get your bloodwork done and T levels checked. I'll be doing mine soon. I don't think I qualify for low T though as I still wake up with a rock hard bonrar every day.

I think the biggest thing for me as I've gotten older is that I wake up not because I'm ready to wake up but because I'm sore from lying in bed. Usually either hips or shoulders. I rotate from sleeping on my left side to my right side many times a night but I still get sore.
Have you considered getting a better mattress? It isn't exactly easy, but worth it.

Many of them just suck. Actually just got a new one for my daughter recently. Tried to sleep on it one night and just no. After 3 hours or so I was hurting in both shoulders. The couch was actually better.

Need to see if I can get it traded out. On my to do list.

I feel like my diet is decent. I don’t eat out. I don’t get fast food. I eat pretty clean. Could use some fruits and veggies though.

Hard not to drink coffee as I work 12 hours shifts, two days than two nights. Nights are rough.

I am going to limit myself to one coffee a day on work days and one pwo. No coffee at all on days off.

I’ve also made a docs app for next week.

Thanks for replies guys.

It has been shown that working alternating shifts is extremely taxing mentally and physically. Everything else could be perfect and this alone will kill you.

If you're not eating fruits and vegetables you're not eating clean (srs).

Don't underestimate how good eating a lot more fruits, vegetables, drinking water, can make you feel.

It'll tighten your body up, DOMS goes away faster, lactic acid clears faster, a feeling of being light yet strong/sturdy, can focus better, etc.

Sleeping and eating right become really important. Cardio. You're not going to want to hear it, but you might want to quit caffeine and stimulants/depressants as a whole.

Most people are walking sleep zombies. Even the people that claim they aren't tired. Most people are overworked and don't get remotely close to the amount of sleep they need. Most people claiming that they aren't tired have simply been exhausted so long that they've forgotten what peak performance feels like. It's like people that eat chit every day and blow up the toilet after every meal ... they've been doing it for so long they just assume it's normal/correct.

I didn't realize how bad exhaustion (and the poor health that accompanies it) was until i went hiking/biking and off-grid for almost a year. The physical, psychological, and performance changes that is saw in people after just a few weeks of natural light, proper sleep, and high caloric expenditure ... remarkable.

The Joe Rogan podcast with the sleep guy is mind-blowing and will validate much of what i said.

Whenever I drank caffeine my sleep would become less restful and I'd be tired all the time.

Now I'm in the habit of waking up at 4am without an alarm and getting to sleep by 8pm even on weekends. Grew apart from most of my friends who go out to bars all the time and started hanging out with people who do activities during the day.

LOL I like to keep my fruits and vegetables separate but to each their own.

One of the best things I learned was how to roast vegetables, helps me be able to eat a lot more vegetables.

Usually I'll roast a bag of vegetables and eat off that like 3-4 times, normally with some condensed soup.

For fruits I mean those are just always good, I'll eat them alone, or a fruit salad with like pineapple, grapes, strawberries, banana, etc.

Out of curiosity, do you know anything about the wake up light alarm clocks? Been thinking about buying one for years and have always noticed how significantly better i feel if i wake up due to sunlight as opposed to waking up in darkness.

1-2 cups of coffee in the morning. Work out 4x a week, work all day, cook dinner for my family and play with my kid at night. Eat basically whatever and drink 2-3 basically every night. Plenty of energy, loads of willpower, insatiable sex drive. Get your chit together op.

Get your blood work done, tune in your diet, and 100% focus on optimizing your sleep. EDIT: Sleep quantity is important, but for me sleep QUALITY has been the most important thing to get right.

Walkers book "Why we sleep" is my early contender for book of the year. Absolutely fascinating.

Just get some hue bulbs for your existing bedside lamp/s. They can do the same thing and a lot more. We use the wake up function every day - it's the cats ass.

Not much more tired but more stressed due to taking on more responsibilities.

I got up at 4am today, was at work by 6am. It's now around 4:30pm and I skipped lunch as usual (IF crew). Probably 6 cups of coffee. Not even phased, I can do this all day.

What I can't do anymore is party 7 days a week + put in at least 40 hours at work + have my side gig + maintain a large social circle. Glad I spent most of 20's doing that, but it got boring.

I'm the the 2nd half of 30s. So yeah i'm old

What i noticed is that sleep plays a HUGE factor in if i'm tired or not throughout the day.

For example these days, since i been following the NBA playoffs, i'm probably sleeping around 11-1130pm. I wake up 5:20am every morning. I have no problem getting up, and doing my routine to get to work. But around 11am is when i start to feel it. Then after i eat lunch i feel a bit better, but then around 2pm is when i crash, so i have to drink coffee. Then i'm good until i get home which is almost 6pm. I rest a bit, then take my preworkout around 7:15-7:30pm and i'm good to go.

On days when i get to bed early, sleeping by 9:30pm, i'm good throughout the day. I feel like lebron james, playing every minute without breaking a sweat.

So i think sleep plays a key role in energy which might sound obvious but most of the time overlooked. Definitely get another 1-2 hours a sleep a night and see if anything changes.

I do have to get my test levels checked anyway just out of curiosity.

Sunlight certainly triggers various hormones that stimulate wakefulness. It is well known that people of high latitudes and people that remain indoors a lot experience depression from lack of sunlight. I don't see much benefit to a special alarm clock when you can just open some curtains.

Most people in general are so fuked up from blue light that their wakefulness and sleep hormones are all jacked up. Interestingly enough... light from a fire isn't in the right wavelength to stimulate wakefulness. That's why quality blue blocking glasses can help in the evening while winding down watching TV since the only light passing through is comparable in wavelength to fire light.

Diet is a huge factor like people have said. I commented on the first page about me boing tired in my college years but not never being able to nap or anything.

I was a calorie is a calorie guy back then. Never looked at macros. Now I constantly eat clean with 1 cheat meal a week. It makes a huge difference

I work 6am to 6pm. I’ll have a large coffee in he morning. Then at noon I’ll eat lunch and sometimes nap. Then I’ll have a medium in the afternoon.

Then some pre workout at 6 before the gym.

I am literally tired all the time. Is this being old or am I RIP?
im 25 and don’t need caffeine. You’re an old man already.

Basically, I don't snore but my wife would tell me I'd stop breathing ALL the time while asleep on the couch. I was constantly tired. I couldn't lose weight. etc.

Went in for the test in an office building. They had a room in the office that essentially resembled a hotel room with no windows. They glue on 454 sensors on your face with 454 wires attached to it and tell you to go to sleep. They can hear you and see you and you can hear them if they chose to talk to you.

You sleep, they wake you up at about 4am and send you home. As i walked out of the office the technician goes "oh yeah, youll be back for sure this week"

The second night you go in they hook you up to a cpap machine and they test out different levels. etv.

Anyway, after your insurance provides you with a machine, you sleep like absolute CRAP for about 3 nights...after you get used to the mask you start to notice that you feel fine when you wake up. Like you actually slept all night. I dont even notice the machine anymore and it seems to trigger my body to SLEEP. As soon as I put the mask on I doze off like its some sort of laughing gas.
You have my word as a Schoobs.
