You seem really bitter, sorry for whatever is bothering you. I’m just being real.

And we all have a good time too when I hang out with the company - tradies and business owners hangout sometimes.

Sorry, it sounds like you’re not having enough fun.

And the company I’m talking about has been around since 2016.

Way ahead of you boyo. BRB base salary well over 100k. BRB requires very little time if you hire the right people. BRB Large Bonuses every year. BRB time to own and run multiple businesses. BRB expense all the things. BRB nicest cars on the street. BRB save money on home upgrades because of all the other tradie owners you know.

Srs Response.

Yes its definitely a pretty nice set up. We're the first ones of the peasants to know when the economy is about to take a dump because the really wealthy people stop investing in new construction projects as often. We are also the first to reap the benefits of a booming economy for the same reason. After a few years its very easy to project costs and profits as most contracts are picked up months before we start. We also don't have to deal with piddly 2-5% profits like many other business types see. Currently sitting on P/O margins of 38%. Overhead is about 10% of that so 25-28% profit on every job. We are projected to do even more this year.
Downsides include dealing with a bunch of grown men who literally act like whiny women half the time, schedules usually aren't adhered to at all so keeping up our internal schedule is a PITA, The ever looming threat of OSHA, unemployment insurance and how easy it is for employees to take advantage of it even when they quit.

You are definitely not the first person to tell me that. I’ve just realized that not everyone is going to like me, or my attitude. If people bag on me, like you are, that’s just what I tell them. And those who like me bring so much value to my life, that I don’t care about naysayers.

People buy me dinners, take me out places, because they value me. Why? I don’t know.

But all that I believe in is the results speak for themselves.

clearly, you haven't had much results, based off of your thread which I assume you are seriously considering.

You honestly don't know anything about this topic, except the sugar-coated stories your trade business owners friends have told you. I too, have lead friends down the same thoughts as you in trying to mimic another's successful business.

One friend is actually copying my business ideas from the "stories" I've told him. My friend along with you, will learn the hard way, that MOST businesses will have ups and downs especially with new and inexperienced business owners. You MUST be good to shine amongst solid competitors. To be good, you MUST be willing to learn and put it the work.

You thinking its so simple and easy shows your ignorance about business, you've really only heard stories that your friends WANT to tell you.

I already told my boss about my plans to leave my current gig and they countered offered high enough to make me stay. So I’m doing more than fine in my current role.

If you think selling real estate and mortgages, which I have been doing for the last 3 years full time is easy street, then like I said I don’t care about your opinion. People test me all the time, it’s routine.

Making sales and deals isn’t new to me. Losing deals to other competitors also isn’t anything to me. It’s just going to happen in the real world.

LOL

Sounding like a complete retard isn't helping to convince anyone that you aren't living in fantasy land.

Like I said in my first post, I have a ton of respect for those who can make it by starting their own business. It's definitely possible to do very well. I just haven't met anyone successful who comes across as you have here.

I think you’re just bitter and cucked to some degree in your life. So you’re having a go at me.

I already said the realities early in this thread and you’re missing them. I already talked about the debt. I already said it’s scary.

And I already said I’m working off of what others have built to a degree. The websites are being made now to shift the marketing to where I am.

I am focused on the marketing and selling jobs. I never said I was a tradesman.

Curious as to what trade this is with overhead at 10% and 25-28% profit margin. I am part owner of my business and my wife owns a business...I don't see how you can have employees with benefits, healthcare, your insurance, mileage, vacation, etc at 10%. Sounds doubtful.

Friend of mine is a tradie who owns a couple of businesses, makes bank, Baja boat, lakehouse, travels a lot, always banging some hot 22 year old srs. Looks 25 and is 34. Meanwhile desk jockey's getting that dad face, extra lbs, eye bags, and dark circles from their soul sucking office job staring at a computer screen all day.

If you really get going youre set for life. I used to do sales for a local HVAC company and their profit margin was 50-60% depending on the sale after all expenses. He was making at minimum about 3k a day.

Who would do project estimations? Normally, the owner would be able too.

You haven't a clue, so you need to hire one. You are you gonna pay 3k/month for a junk estimator, or 5k/month for a skilled one?

What about a foreman, who are you going to hire that you can trust enough to over-see all work done? You ready to start paying over 6k/month for one?

Also, you can't even answer a simple question of "what would you do to stand out amongst competitors?".

Guarantee your friends arent making as much money as they claim, and like I said before, you have a small piece of the whole story they are telling.

I know first hand experience on this.

The business I'm in is a family owned 'tradie' business. This thing with construction is that when it's good it's good, but when it's bad it's bad. Also, you need really high cash flow so you can pay your employees considering mine are paid every week and they're not low 10$ wages I'm talking $20-35hr per employee and we employee over 30 employees that's not including me, my bro and my sister (owner). We also have really high over head with Materials, and equipment. We own a few Forklifts, hydo mobile scaffolding and regular scaffolding.

Oh another thing, construction is a hard business to get into because of how buddy buddy people are, my dad had been doing it since the 60s so we had our name in our city forever, but if you're a newcomer you basically have a very slim chance to make bank like some of these general or even sub contractors.

We do about 7 million dollars worth of work and usually hit 20-35% profit, so you do the math. It might not be a pretty white collar business, but if you do well you live the really good life.

I know that’s what you think.

I am only talking about this after seeing a YTD P&L prepared by a CPA. I know the balance sheet is not going to look as rosy, because there is decent amount of debt. I have seen the Secretary of State filings, it’s a real business.

But the point of me getting involved is to strengthen the balance sheet. And why I care about that is because I will be brought on as an equity holder.

They have more equipment than they know what to do with and are good at what they do, so it makes sense for them to expand. Finding the right people to help them with that is the challenge.

Hes got 3 locations so yeah. Took him 8 years to get there but regardless hes fukking balling. I sold a 13000 dollar system once and made 1k in about 2 hrs and made him 6k off of the deal on top of it. Most of my systems were about 6 or 7k and id sell about 3 a week plus we had another manager also selling who took about twice as many appointments as me so he was selling at least 1 a day at that rate. Plus he had a service end which was also sales oriented. Very lucrative if you do it right.

Most of my systems were about 6 or 7k and id sell about 3 a week plus we had another manager also selling who took about twice as many appointments as me so he was selling at least 1 a day at that rate. Plus he had a service end which was also sales oriented. Very lucrative if you do it right.
sounds like theres absolutely 0 competition in your area for the markup to be that high

There was a lot of competition but in general he was raping people over the coals. He had a really good sales process though which helped and a ton of guarantees with it that got people to sign. I had to memorize a 15 page script to work there which worked extremely well. He worked with this consultant who did the whole process for him so it was plug and play. I didnt know jack chit about HVAC and even with the pricing i still had a 78% closing ratio. He was shady as fukk though, extremely greedy and didnt care about his employees. I quit because they were taking advantage of me and they were just really underhanded and the manager was stealing my calls to snake my commissions. Robbed me of 10k in a month when it slowed down because he kept taking my calls as theyd come in.

It might not be a pretty white collar business, but if you do well you live the really good life.
lots of palms to grease right Bud.
