^^^ LA has fantastic outdoors nearby- Three mountain ranges, several different deserts, 600ft sand dunes, two different 10,000ft mountains, lots of good surfing, and what I consider the best mountain roads in the country (for road biking, motorcycling and driving) up in the San Antonio mountains.

It's a fantastic area; I wish it just wasn't so expensive. I was looking at houses in Santa Monica when I lived there and it was even pricier than SF. WTF?

This is a bit of an exaggeration. But I guess it depends on where you want to live. As long as you're not working minimum wage or an entry level job, that is manageable.

For me going to California isn't traveling to some destination, its "going back home" to where all my friends and family are and because I was born and raised there the cost of living really isn't a "sticker shock" to me as oppose to someone who has lived in middle america their whole life, so I can justify the price.

Thats true i was stuck in L.A on my way to Mexico this year for like 5 hours, maybe thats why i hate L.A

well it comes with the territorial experience. the suburb life is still highly random violence driven in LA. You can literally get that work anywhere if you're out of line or wearing wrong colors. see, you guys want to live out in cali because of it's good but you gotta accept the bad which came / comes with it. you will never know what it's like to grow up in LA in 1992 where riots where amongst compton streets or crenshaw district where you had gangbangers shooting at crips n bloods.

this is what i remember vividly and i lived in a good area in the suburbs of LA. crips n bloods where something unavoidable even in malibu, back then in 1992 if you were flamed up on some blood chit you got what you got coming to you. period. suge knight dated my aunt and used to come over my house in 92'. we knew tupac, janet jackson, megan good, etc..all that chit. like I'm FROM LA and it's a huge difference then just moving out here from arizona or some chit.

I'm moving from LA and am thinking I made a mistake. But I'll reevaluate in a year and see if I want to move back to LA, or go to SF, OC, or San Diego.

I did that for some time and definitely appreciated it TONS more when I was away from LA.

i'm in no way skeptically prideful in mass incarceration or homicidal tendency. I'm just pointing out the fact that it's not really 100% good anywhere in the US. So while most of those criminally infested neighborhoods were a direct causation of drugs planted and funded by Nicaraguan wars its safe to say it was a lifestyle impended by the government anyways. Take it or leave it and while most want to live out in Cali for it's glamorous lifestyle it comes with a price to accept. That's all I'm saying, it's a decent place to live with a lot to do in one day but you can get caught slipping if your awareness isn't together like most places, but in LA it's maximum. Because you got hungry people all around you that are filled with envy in which LA is notorious. It's a lifestyle at the end of the day.

Just got back from a long weekend in Hermosa Beach (right next door to Manhattan Beach).

The complaints are real:
Traffic Sucks
Cost of Living is uber high

However, GOAT area for:
HBB's
Laid back vibe

If you could live and work in that little community, there would be no better place. However, that's not likely as homes are $2 million for a 1,000 sq. ft. place. And, not sure what profession could support that life style that's in the area.

noones denying that Europe doesn't have the entire world beat in terms of architecture, but compared to the rest of the US, Los Angeles is pretty high on the list of cities to want to live in if you're a connoisseur of architecture.
