Was over 800 but wife and I financed two used cars after trading in the junkers.

Sitting pretty at 785ish and wife is around 760ish.

Going for a mortgage soon so good bye sweet credit score. Not like it matters after that, just get the best rates for a home and dassit mane. Probably will pay off the cars before the mortgage anyway, feels good having a bunch of cash sitting around.

Some companies pull your credit to see if you are a risk for financial fraud. It can also affect your clearance.

It would be an interesting correlation to see those who claim to have an 800+ score, yet post in other threads about living at home with parents, or renting an apartment vs owning a home.
