Looks really cool OP, you get to do something way more interesting than just rotting away in a cubicle.


The obvious danger is falling but how good is their lockout/tag out system? what would happen if they energized that thing with your head next to it, are you dead instantly or retarded for the rest of your life? You got a coworker down there guarding the power switch?

it's entry level, i'll earn 100 when i get good enough -- it's also nice to not dread going in to work every day. I've worked a lot of chit jobs before this one.

much rather be doing something interesting, some of these guys have been doing it for 25+ years and still love it

some times they keep it on low levels because they can't shut the tower down completely but those levels are sage, I don't actually know what would happen if it was fully energized and i was beside it but there are warning stickers on the units that say it can kill you. i'll ask when i get to work today.

the whole crew is typically on the tower all day, the only time someone is on the ground is when we are pulling units / equipment / tools up

How do you drag your gigantic balls of steel up there??

Do you do that in the rain, or high winds?

Also interested to hear the answer on what do you do if you need to piss or chit while up there?

This. OPs job looks and sounds awesome. There is risk of course, but he's unlikely to ever have "another dull, boring day at work" which is pretty much everyday for me and a lot of ppl like me.

We work in light rain and high winds, also work in the winter which can be especially dangerous with all the ice. It's important to work slow and safe and be extremely aware. I have a low attention span so I was worried about that but once you're up there your mind automatically goes into focus mode with all ththe adrenaline.

We piss and chit in the morning before we climb, typically once you're up there you're up there for 12 hours. Some guys climb down to do hoisting or any ground work. I eat my lunch late to avoid having to chit. Drink lots of water but i usually sweat it out and don't have to piss.

Tbh I can probably make a lot more I just don't know yet

They also pay for my food every day and my hotels, there are plenty of travel bonus' as well and if I'm out of town and weather stops us from working for the day I get 4 hours pay no matter what.

You have to consider the fact that bad weather can happen pretty often so i don't work as many days as some of you boyos.

Not sure what a rock climbing harness is like but if a safety harness deploys you're essentially left dangling in the air, it has to do with cutting off blood supply or something like that. I'm on a job atm so I can look up the full facts. It has a name for it because it was found out back in the day when soldiers deployed from parachutes and landed in trees, they figured they would stay in their harness over night and deal with it in the morning but wound up dead

There's something so sexy about guys who perform those type of risky and masculine jobs, as well as guys who work as firefighters or in the police department (not the type who eat donuts), but the other ones... detectives, etc. HNGGGGGGGG, having a husband that can actually protect you physically and emotionally.
