That explains the Brit attitude to a large extent.Even after independence the Americans generally allied with the British position in intl affairs throughout the 19th century when the sun never set on the Empire and in the 20th century during the wars and then later on when America replaced the Brits as the Worlds top dawg.

Sure its a big thing for Americans but for Brits it was okay to lose those colonies which clearly were troublesome and not as lucrative as their other colonies and even the Monroe Doctrine kept British trade with South America safe and secure.


They were also winning more territories in Asia as they lost in America and considering Asia's pre eminent position in world manufactures and trade in the 18th century vis-a-vis the new world's i think the British didnt feel the loss as much.
