thousands of americans go and don't die...but that still doesn't make this any less suspicious. And if these people died due to accident on one of the excursions that would be one thing, but the fact that pulmonary edema was listed among possible causes of deaths for all of them is way past people not using common sense.

Why do you keep saying they were doing things they werent supposed to?

Are we not supposed to go on vacation and have a drink out of the minibar? Is there an unwritten rule Im unaware of that says you cant enjoy a drink while on vacation?

If you are hungry on vacation and decide to walk down to get a slice of pizza and instead get violently attacked and raped, should you not do that on vacation as well?

Your seem to be putting the owness of these individuals deaths back on them for doing common and regular things that we all do on vacation. I could understand if these people jumped in a shark tank but having a drink out of the mini bar doesnt seem to be out of line. Why are people not dropping dead like flies for doing the exact same thing in Jamaica, Bahamas, Aruba, etc, etc, etc if this "out of line" behavior is the cause?

Americans die abroad frequently, it's not like this is some supremely rare occurrence. All of those people who died were older than like 50.

Save your money and go to a florida resort, it will be better in every way including the diving. Or go to maybe, bahamas, bimini, keys, of anywhere else. Chit Cuba is probably a better place to go.

47 Jimmy Buffett fans on a trip just fell ill there too. I think there were like 120 people and 47 of them became ill. Something is definitely going on.

This is precisely the reason why you have to be careful when traveling to these places. A lot of people are blissfully unaware of the danger they put themselves in.

Just because you didn't feel unsafe doesn't mean you weren't in danger. It just means you were lucky enough to enjoy your trip without anything bad happening.

TBH in can happen in America too. I work in Law Enforcement and sometimes we get people from other areas here for festivals/events and the running joke is get there information and start a case for them now. Because before their trip is over they are going to be the victim of a crime.

A lot of people have poor situational awareness and slim to none in the survival sense department. (Not saying you do). Traveling a third world country where people are impoverished and desperate just means you need to be on your A game.

I like how the only person in this thread with anything nice to say about the DR actually lived there.

That was part of the discussion on if we should go, it went about like this.

Its Haiti...its a chit hole
No its not, its the DR.
Same thing.
No its not, its a different country.
Its one small island....
But its nicer on this half.
Just because a turd has a polished end doesnt mean its not a turd.
Fine then just dont leave the resort.
Then why bother going?
Because it will be cheap.

On the bright side, she admitted how wrong she was and I never have to have that conversation again.

They are using fake booze in the bottles in the mini bars. No tiny bottles. There you go.

Could be either corporate sabotage by other countries vying for the tourists or could just be they are trying to be cheap and buying bathtub gin.

Probably sabotage.
