As we all know, this is late. Look at the Chinese spy that FBI just announced, I am sure there's LOTS more CCP spies in the USA. The homeland security needs to also investigate ALL Chinese corporations on the NYSE. Also investigate all American business that does a lot of transactions with China.

This is the right step but USA needs to do more to stay competitive against this dictator regime.

In theory, the missiles could be located on any ship, and fire control can be executed from any platform capable of doing so. A no-notice surprise attack could be possible but we have constant eyes on China and are always monitoring them. That's why their ASAT ability is important and a huge threat to us. If they are able to shut down satellite and high altitude ISR, we can't see anything. They'll certainly have a mobilization advantage further down the line due to their geographical location, so they very well could pull something off. America just needs to make sure there are no more Middle Easts in the foreseeable future and has the capacity to avoid being sucked into those situations (*cough*Iran*cough*).

It is kind of scary though, as noted in the analysis above, China has focused very well on being able to counter every strength the American military has.

It's hard to say how the future will play out in this regard. We know the plans of the Chinese are very well thought out and deceptive. We know what their goals are (China 2050), America just needs an effective way to respond to them. Our previous administrations have failed us and now it's been placed in Trump's lap, our legislature is still a mess but at least views China as a bipartisan threat. We are still in the very beginning stages of all of this, so it's hard to picture a lot of what is being forecasted for them. They've definitely shown the determination and capability to get to where they want to be, those are the kind of intrinsic factors that need to be considered when looking at the big picture with where China's going.
What truly worries me is that because they have had unprecedented access to all of our military tech and secrets for the past 20 years, that they have specifically focused on countering each offense weapon system that we have. Like you said, they are smart, determined, and deceitful so who knows what weapons they have been working on. If chit pops off we may be in for a huge surprise. Also, their focus on taking satellites out is chilling as well, blinding us would probably be worst case scenario on the ground.

We still have a major advantage in technology and quality, but that can be eclipsed if China can field vast numbers of cheap, capable systems. The major vulnerability right now is our space systems, especially when it comes to jamming/dazzling our satellites. China showed a couple decades back that they can lase/blind our satellites from the ground. When it comes to access to industrial secrets, contractor networks have always been a weak point, as not everyone has a robust firewall to prevent intrusions. But sometimes it's not enough, data on standalone networks can be compromised too if an engineer or service members feels disgruntled or wants to make extra $$, etc. We've been really complacent in this regard and China's had easy access to research projects at various institutions across the country to help augment their own development.

Xi not revealing any new stealth aircraft during this parade and taking a softer/non-antagonistic tone with his speech showed they are trying to win the public relations game on the world stage, which is smart. If China comes off as too assertive, it'll only push the world further away from them as the US tries to beat the drum.

Chinese media reveals specs of Harbin Z-20 helo
MELBOURNE, Australia — China’s state media has revealed details about the Harbin Z-20 medium-lift transport helicopter, two weeks after it made its debut at a military parade marking the country’s 70th anniversary.

A fly-by-wire flight control system is among the features of the Z-20, according to Li Linhua, chief technology expert at the Helicopter Research and Development Institute of China’s Aviation Industry Corporation, or AVIC, the Chinese state-owned aerospace and defense conglomerate of which manufacturer Harbin Aircraft Industry Group is a subsidiary.

Li added that the use of fly-by-wire technology reduces the Z-20′s overall weight and makes it easier to fly, according to newspaper China Daily, which also quoted Chen Guang, vice general manager of AVIC’s helicopter subsidiary Avicopter, as saying that the Z-20 was an indigenous product designed and built exclusively by AVIC.

Nevertheless, the Z-20, which is powered by a pair of turboshaft engines reportedly designated the WZ-10, bears a striking resemblance to the Sikorsky S-70 Black Hawkfamily in terms of general layout, aesthetics and size. China’s People’s Liberation Army operates the demilitarized version of the Black Hawk sold by the United States in the 1990s.

Looks like the J-20 will be able to store 6 air-to-air missiles in its underside in the future, as opposed to the 4 we have seen recently. That's on top of the couple that are on its sides.

Already using Nazi rhetoric lol:

Defence minister says 'no force' can stop China reunification
Defence minister Wei Fenghe tells security forum that resolving 'Taiwan question' is China's greatest national interest.

China's defence minister said on Monday that resolving the [color=red]"Taiwan question"[color] was China's greatest national interest, and that no force could prevent the country's "reunification".

Separatist activities were doomed to failure, Defence Minister Wei Fenghe said at the opening in Beijing of the Xiangshan Forum, which China styles as its answer to the annual Shangri-La Dialogue security forum in Singapore.

Tensions between China and Taiwan have ratcheted up ahead of a presidential election on the island in January.

"China is the only major country in the world that is yet to be completely reunified," Wei said.

"Resolving theTaiwan questionto realise China's full reunification is the irresistible trend of the times, China's greatest national interest, the righteous path to follow and the longing of all Chinese people."

Beijing sees Taiwan as a renegade province that needs to be retaken by force if necessary, a message President Xi Jinping reiterated at the start of this year.

South China Sea claim

Proudly democratic Taiwan has lambasted China for its authoritarian rule and for being a threat to regional peace.

Defeated Nationalist forces fled to Taiwan in 1949 at the end of the civil war that led to the founding of the People's Republic of China.

China has also been angered by support given by the United States to Taiwan, including arms sales.

Washington has no formal ties with Taipei, but is bound by law to provide the island with the means to defend itself.

The US and China are also locked in a bitter trade war, but are in talks to end the dispute.

"No one and no force can ever stop China's full reunification. We are committed to promoting the peaceful development of cross-Taiwan strait relations and the peaceful reunification of the country," Wei said.

However we will never allow separatists for Taiwan independence to have their way, nor allow interference by any external forces. Advancing China's reunification is a just cause, while separatist activities are doomed to failure."

The US has also angered China by repeatedly conducting what it calls "freedom of navigation" operations by naval ships close to islands China occupies in the South China Sea.

China claims the entire South China Sea, but Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam, which surround the strategic waterway, also have claims.

"The South China Sea islands and Diaoyu islands are inalienable parts of China's territory. We will not allow even an inch of territory that our ancestors have left to us to be taken away," Wei said.

Meanwhile,Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc accused Beijing of complicating the situation in the disputed South China Sea as he vowed the Hanoi government will never give any territorial concessions.

"The situation in the South China Sea has become increasingly complicated recently," Phuc told nearly 500 deputies during the eighth session of the National Assembly, which began on Monday.

"This is due to serious violations of Vietnam's seas, which break international law and go against the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties (DOC) and top-level consensus (between Vietnam and China).

"Our party and state have consistently stated that what belongs to our independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, we will never give in," Phuc said at the meeting.

Oil and gas exploration in the South China Sea is a highly fraught issue in both China and Vietnam, which saw a series of violent disputes between 1974 and 1988 over control of the Spratly and Paracel Islands.

China's new carrier being built alongside massive new shipyard

New satellite photos show the shipyard where China's new Type 002 aircraft carrier is being built is just part of a massive, kilometer-long naval dock where even more large vessels might be constructed.

Commercial satellite imagery taken last month shows that not only is progress continuing on the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy's (PLAN) third aircraft carrier, but a much larger docking area around the shipyard is being built as well, according to a new report by the Washington-based think tank Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).

Taken on September 18, the satellite photos show a progression of excavation of land, an additional crane and extensive stockpiling of prefabricated ship parts, such as bulkheads, on the southern coast of Shanghai's Changxing Island, which sits in the Yangtze estuary, when compared with older photos.

According to CSIS' China Power publication, the photos provide the first chance to make strong estimates of the upcoming ship's dimensions. While most of the hull remains obscured from aerial visibility by environmental shelters, the exposed bow of the ship tapers from a width of 38 to 34 meters; analysts report the water-level beam of the hull will likely be roughly 40 meters.

The ship is being built by Jiangnan Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of the state-owned China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). Another Shanghai-based CSSC subsidiary, Hudong Zhonghua, recently completed the PLAN's first Type 075 amphibious assault ship, a 40,000-ton helicopter carrier capable of dispatching thousands of marines and their equipment.

CSIS estimates the assembly of the Type 002's hull will take at least another 12 months.

"We can see slow but steady progress on the hull, but I think the really surprising thing these images show is the extensive infrastructure buildup that has gone on simultaneously," CSIS analyst Matthew Funaiole told Reuters for a Thursday story.

Some of the most dramatic contrast between the photos from September and previous images taken in May can be seen in the vast area south of the shipyard (at the top of the images), where excavators have slowly chipped away at a kilometer-long wharf that's been finally opened to the sea.

"It is hard to imagine all this is being done for just one ship," Funaiole added. "This looks more like a specialized space for carriers and or other larger vessels."

"That they've expanded the harbor is no surprise, given that future aircraft carriers will be larger and more complicated - such as being nuclear-powered," naval expert Li Jie told the South China Morning Post. Li said the PLAN likely requires five or six aircraft carriers to meets its needs in the future.

China's navy has expanded dramatically in the 21st century, increasing from a fleet of 216 ships in 2005 to 335 in 2019, outpacing even the US Navy by 49 vessels, according to a US Congressional Research Service report published earlier this week. That buildup has included not just new carriers, but also advanced missile cruisers like the new Type 055, Type 079 landing platform docks and attack submarines.

Funaiole told Reuters the Type 002, the existence of which has been confirmed by Beijing but not by the PLAN, will likely be somewhat smaller than the US Navy's 100,000-ton supercarriers, but definitely larger than their closest challenger, France's 42,500-ton Charles de Gaulle. Like both the De Gaulle and Washington's Nimitz-class and Ford-class carriers, the Type 002 is expected to have a fully flat deck and launch aircraft using catapults.

The PLAN's two present carriers, Liaoning and Type 001a, use a bow ramp to lift planes into the sky. The practice is safer and less sophisticated than catapult launching, but it limits the amount of fuel and munitions the planes can take on missions.

The Type 001a, once expected in time for the People's Republic of China's 50th anniversary on October 1, began its eighth sea trial earlier this week, which could lead to its commissioning. It is China's first indigenously designed and built carrier, and when the Type 002 is completed, it will be the second. The PLAN's two carriers are based in the Yellow Sea port of Dalian.

The Pentagon's annual China Military Power Report to Congress this past May noted that China's navy "continues to develop into a global force, gradually extending its operational reach beyond East Asia into a sustained ability to operate at increasingly longer ranges."

"China continues to learn lessons from operating its first aircraft carrier, Liaoning," the Office of the Secretary of Defense told lawmakers in the report. "Its first domestically built aircraft carrier was launched in 2017 and will likely be commissioned in 2019 - the beginning of what the PLA states will be a multi-carrier force. China's next generation of carriers, including one that began construction in 2018, will have greater endurance and a catapult launch system capable of launching various types of fixed-wing aircraft, including early warning and anti-submarine warfare (ASW) aircraft."

"These improvements would increase the striking power of a potential carrier battle group when deployed to areas beyond China's immediate periphery," according to the report, which notes the PLAN's current "modest but growing" ability to project power beyond the

"First Island Chain," Beijing's name for the Pacific archipelagoes closest to the East Asian coast, including the Kuril Islands, Japanese archipelago, Ryukyu Islands, the Philippines and the South China Sea.

This is part of a very concerning trend with regards to China's industrial capacity to produce Naval vessels. It'll be veiled as an effort with benign intentions (as indicated in blue below) but China's rate of ship building is unprecedented. Despite what is mentioned in the article, the Chinese, irregardless of the stated financial pressure, have no intention of slowing down their production. In the article above, you can see the Chinese just expanded a naval construction yard significantly to accommodate greater production.

Merger of China’s shipbuilding giants gets the green light
China on Friday announced the merger of the country’s two largest state-owned shipbuilding giants, a step Beijing has been preparing for nearly a decade to strengthen the competitiveness of its shipbuilding industry.

The intention to merge the Shanghai-based China State Shipbuilding Corp (CSSC) and the China Shipbuilding Industry Co (CSIC), based in Dalian, Northern Liaoning province, was announced in a statement on the website of the state-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, China’s cabinet.

The merger would enable China to establish a shipbuilding giant with a combined revenue up to 1 trillion yuan (US$141.5 billion), capable of building vessels ranging from warships, like aircraft carriers, to civilian ships such as container ships and oil tankers, said a source familiar with the merger plan.

“This merger has been in the making since Hu Wenming, a former party leader of the state-owned aviation industry, was assigned to CSSC as party secretary in 2010,” the source said, requesting anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue.

“The merger plan was put on the drawing board at a time when the world shipping industry had entered a golden period in 2009, and the business of CSSC and CSIC was at its peak, but [China’s] analysis indicated a decline was on the horizon, as has actually happened in recent years.”

CSIC and CSSC were part of the same group until 1999 when they were split into two separate entities. Since then, China has overtaken South Korea and Japan to become the world’s largest builder of merchant ships, a rise spurred by the boom in world trade and the country’s accession to the World Trade Organisation in 2001.

CSSC manages shipbuilding business in the east and south of China, while CSIC oversees activities in the northern and western parts of the country. Both are also primary contractors for PLA naval ships.
Commercial shipbuilding was the major source of revenue for both enterprises, given they were generally less technologically challenging and of lower cost to build, the source said.

“Developing and building warships for the PLA needs more manpower and more advanced technologies because naval ships, which are built for sea battles, take longer to build and require cutting-edge technologies, hence the higher costs,” the source said.

CSSC and CSIC have built hundreds of military vessels over the past few years as the Chinese navy seeks to modernise rapidly. These have included aircraft carriers, Type 055 destroyers, Type 075 amphibious assault ships and Type 094A nuclear submarines.

But, the source said, the two giants’ naval warship building mission would be cut back next year,as Beijing expected greater financial pressure as a result of slower economic growth. The merger would allow the two companies to pool their resources and enhance their competitiveness, especially in the development of mega vessels.

“The merger is also part of China’s long-term maritime energy development plan to meet President Xi Jinping’s sustainable and clean energy goal, because China needs more giant vessels to help ship oil and gas from other countries,” the source said.

Moscow is helping Beijing build missile-attack warning system that only Russia & US have – Putin
A missile-attack warning system that Moscow is helping Beijing put together will drastically increase China’s defense capabilities, President Vladimir Putin said, noting that only Russia and the US currently have such technology.

"I don’t think I’ll open a huge secret here. It’ll become clear anyway. We’re now helping our Chinese partners to create a missile-attack warning system,” Putin told the high-profile guests of the 16th meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club at the Black Sea resort of Sochi on Thursday.

The President reminded attendees that Russia and the US are the only two countries in the world currently armed with such systems.

The missile attack warning system combines ground-based radars and satellite arrays in Earth’s orbit, which detect the launch of ballistic missiles and calculate their trajectory. The data is then transmitted to a command center where a decision on how to repel the attack and respond to it can be made.

The Russian leader also said that containing China is “impossible by definition,” allegedly referring to Washington’s trade war against Beijing, American patrol missions in the South China Sea and other similar moves by the US.

Those making such “deconstructive and damaging” attempts will only be “harming and delivering damage to themselves,” Putin warned.

Recently produced J-20 sporting new engines and serrated afterburner nozzles. It's believed once China finalizes its engine design, the J-20 will begin Full Rate Production (FRP).

Another shot of a J-20 showcasing their ability to blend in the skin paneling.

Construction of China's3rdAircraft Carrier is underway.

39-year-old heads China’s 3rd carrier construction
With military observers expecting China's second aircraft carrier to join naval service soon, the country's third aircraft carrier is being built in Shanghai, headed by a 39-year-old builder, the state broadcaster reported.

Experts said on Thursday that China's shipbuilding industry consists of very young teams and has mastered technologies to build aircraft carriers that could one day rival the US.

China's third aircraft carrier is under construction at Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai, and its chief builder was born in 1980, Jin Yi'nan, a professor at National Defense University of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), disclosed in a China Central Television (CCTV) program this week.

Jin said he recently visited the shipyard, but did not reveal the name of the chief builder or anything on the new carrier's development.

The Xinhua News Agency reported in November 2018 that the new type of aircraft carrier was being built, but official media has rarely mentioned any progress since then.

Military observers speculated that the third carrier could be larger than the previous two and feature a flat deck with an electromagnetic catapult.

Hu Wenming, then-chairman of China Shipbuilding Industry Corp and head of China's aircraft carrier program, said on CCTV in August that China has a mature development and construction team, with 36 years as the average age of team members.

"Whatever type of aircraft carrier our country wants to develop, we can make it on our own," Hu said.

China learned from refitting the purchased former Soviet aircraft carrier Varyag into the Liaoning, used the experience in building the second carrier, and is now applying innovations in the third one, a military expert who asked not to be named told the Global Times on Thursday.

"The teams are very young, and you can expect them to build aircraft carriers that could be on par with the ones of the US in the foreseeable future," the expert said.

China's second aircraft carrier sailed through the Taiwan Straits on Sunday and conducted tests and training in the South China Sea, the PLA Navy announced on Monday.

Photos and videos surfaced on Chinese social media showing the second carrier arriving in Sanya, South China's Hainan Province on Tuesday, as military analysts speculate it might soon be commissioned at a naval base there.

Military analysts predict that China could operate around six carriers in the future, as later entries could become nuclear-powered.

And... another one. Keep this in mind with the other recent developments of increasing industrial capacity to produce more ships for the PLAN. Also, I wouldn't pay attention to any notion about financial/technical constraints, China's in full deception mode with its latest developments, taking a lesson from the US and not disclosing its true progress/innovation paths. There's already a classified arms race going on behind the scenes and both sides of the ocean are posturing, unbeknownst to the public.

Chinese navy set to build [color=red]fourth aircraft carrier[color], but plans for a more advanced ship are put on hold
[ul]
  • Military sources say that work on a second Type 002 ship - the most advanced homegrown vessel – could start within two years

  • Plans to develop more modern nuclear-powered vessel appear to have been put on ice due to financial and technical constraints

  • [ul]
The Chinese navy is moving ahead with plans to build another aircraft carrier, but plans for a fifth have been put on hold for now, according to military insiders.

They said that technical challenges and high costs had put the brakes on the programme and the recent merger of the country’s two major shipbuilders was unlikely to have a significant short-term impact.

The country currently has just one active carrier, the Liaoning – a refitted Soviet-era vessel – but the first homebuilt carrier, the Type 001, is undergoing sea trials and may soon be ready for service.

Work on the more modern Type 002 carrier started two years ago and a naval source said construction on the second Type 002 could start as early as 2021.

But plans for a next-generation carrier appear to be on hold for now as engineers struggle to overcome technical problems. “There is no plan to build more aircraft carriers,” said one military source.

“The third and fourth Chinese aircraft carriers on the agenda are both Type 002s, the country’s next generation warship equipped with electromagnetic catapults.”

These carriers will all be conventionally powered, but naval chiefs have been considering plans to build a more technologically advanced, nuclear-powered vessel, according to another source.

On Tuesday a ceremony in Beijing was held to mark the formation of the world’s largest shipbuilding company with the merger of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and China Shipbuilding Industry Company (CSIC).

The new conglomerate – which retains the name CSIC name – has a total of 147 research institutes, business enterprises and listed companies with a combined asset value of 790 billion yuan (US$112 billion). It also employs 310,000 people, according to the official news agency Xinhua.

Great read, also China has a huge demographic problem from their one child policy. There are about 25 million more men then women in 18-34 cohort. These incels could be easily turned into cannon fodder.

China Developing New Waverider Hypersonic Vehicle
China’s “Xingkong-2” currently undergoing trials, is the country’s first waverider hypersonic vehicle with its development starting a year prior to the DF-17.

Enumerating differences between the DF-17 and the Xingkong-2 (Starry Sky-2), Ma Jun, a military expert, told state-run CCTV that the latter "might use a different flight pattern to the DF-17.”

Designed by the China Academy of Aerospace Aerodynamics under the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, the Xingkong-2 was successfully tested at a target range in Northwest China in August 2018, the academy announced then.

Ma added that Xingkong-2 is still in the trial phase and more tests are expected.

On October 1, on the occasion of National Day Parade, China showcased the DF-17 for the first time in public. Some presumed the DF-17 to be the final product of the Xingkong-2. First test of the DL-17 ballistic missile equipped with a hypersonic glide vehicle took place in November 2017.

“One distinctive difference between the Xingkong-2 and the DF-17 is that the former has a fairing (external structure added to increase streamlining) and the latter does not, making the two very different in appearance alone,” analysts pointed out.

“The Xingkong-2 was only tested in 2018. So, it is not likely to enter Chinese military service as early as in 2019,” the analysts noted.

The CCTV program introduced two genres of hypersonic aircraft: one is a glide-boost, meaning the aircraft is propelled into the sky via a rocket and glides in the air using shock waves generated by its own hypersonic flight, while the other is air-breathing, meaning the aircraft uses a scramjet engine to provide thrust, Global Times reported Sunday.

“The DF-17 is said to be a glide-boost vehicle, but it is not known what type the Xingkong-2 might be, other than it could be different from the DF-17, although it was also propelled by a rocket,” said Ma.

“The US and Russia are striving to develop hypersonic weapons with both glide-boost and air-breathing technologies, as the two have different strengths and shortcomings. China will not fall behind and could develop multiple types of hypersonic weapons using different technologies in the future,” an expert said.

China’s new PCL191 multiple launch rocket system casts shadow over Taiwan Strait

    [ul]
  • The ‘mystery’ hardware that appeared without a name at the National Day parade in October is the PLA’s most powerful MLRS ever, experts say

  • System capable of firing eight 370mm rockets 350km or two 750mm ballistic missiles 500km

  • [ul]
The multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) that made its public debut at China’s National Day parade on October 1 has been identified as a state-of-the-art piece of weaponry capable of firing both rockets and ballistic missiles, according to a leading military magazine.

A report in the latest issue of Modern Ships also gave the new hardware a name – the Type PCL191 – saying it was a modular launcher based on the AR3 system developed by China for the export market.

Unlike other weapon systems on display in Beijing, which had their names emblazoned along their sides, the Type PCL191 rumbled through the streets of Beijing on the back of heavy-duty trucks with almost complete anonymity.

A commentator for state broadcaster CCTV described it simply as a “self-propelled rocket launcher with precision strike capability”.

Modern Ships went further, saying the modular rocket system can carry eight 370mm (14½ inch) rockets – each with a range of 350km (220 miles) – or two 750mm Fire Dragon 480 tactical ballistic missiles – each capable of flying up to 500km.

While it is not known how many PCL191 units China has, a report by PLA Daily – the mouthpiece of the People’s Liberation Army – said that an MLRS brigade was stationed with the 72nd Group Army in Huzhou, Zhejiang province.

Based on China’s eastern seaboard, the 72nd is one of three active group armies under the Eastern Theatre Command and has priority status in terms of readiness, strength and equipment.

According to a military source, who asked not to be named due to the sensitivity of the issue, a second PCL191 brigade is stationed to the south of Huzhou, in Xiamen, Fujian province, the nearest point on China’s mainland to Taiwan.

Relations across the Taiwan Strait have slumped since President Tsai Ing-wen rose to power in the self-ruled island in 2016. Beijing regards Taiwan as part of its sovereign territory – a claim vehemently opposed by Taipei – and has repeatedly threatened the use of military force to reunify it with the mainland.

In an interview with CCTV in October, Wang Tanshen, a master sergeant with the 72nd Group Army’s artillery brigade, said the range of the new launch system was “seven times” that of its predecessor.
“The new generation MLRS has extended our firing range to cover everywhere we want to hit,” he said.

The Taiwan Strait is just 180km across.

First made-in-China aircraft carrier, the Shandong, officially enters service
    [ul]
  • The country’s second carrier is commissioned by President Xi Jinping in southern Hainan province

  • Ceremony marks significant step forward in China’s plan to expand its navy’s power amid tensions in sensitive areas such as South China Sea and Taiwan Strait

  • [ul]
China’s first home-built aircraft carrier was officially commissioned by President Xi Jinping on Tuesday as Beijing flexed its military muscles.

The new warship will be called the Shandong and its formal entry into service is a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to build up its naval power.

This drive has been viewed warily by its neighbours and the United States in light of tensions in strategically sensitive areas such as the Taiwan Strait and South China Sea.

The state broadcaster CCTV reported that the ceremony in Sanya, a port in the southern island province of Hainan, was attended by officials from the Southern Theatre Command which oversees the South China Sea.

The ship’s captain will be Lai Yijun, who previously commanded the frigate Lianyungang, while its political commissar will be Pang Jianhong, who served on the destroyer Xian. Both are senior colonels.

Xi inspected an honour guard during the ceremony and met service personnel on board the warship. Other senior officials, including Vice-Premier Liu He, Xi’s chief of staff Ding Xuexiang, China’s top economic planner He Lifeng, and chief of the joint staff department Li Zuocheng, also attended the ceremony.

The scary thing about these commies is how well they used globalism to normalize their image in the world as a trusted partner. They are buying political points with economic cooperation, shielding their ugly reality as a marxist dictatorship. The Soviets never managed to slip under the radar of the Western world like the communist party of China does. That is what is truly frightening about this. Everyone is sleeping on them. It is hard for the U.S. to unite the world against them due to the amount of businesses that are invested in China. It is hard for the West to act against it’s own economic interests by uniting against them. The West freely deals with them and ignores China’s true face and goals concerning Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, their own minorities (Uyghurs).

They just play stupid if anyone gets suspicious of their true intentions, that's how they managed to fool the West for so long, other than dangling $$ in front of their eyes. It's one thing to build fairly extensive economic relationships around the world but when you start overhauling your entire military in an age where it's not necessary to achieve one's foreign policy goals, it sets off a bunch of alarms. The US military has never slept on China but sadly our politicians did, seemingly long enough to allow them to gain some sort of near parity with our current forces. Once our joint forces come up on a solid plan for engaging China (with the introduction of AI, directed energy, swarms, etc), our politicians will need to sack up and be willing to support a massive increase in our defense budget to make up for years of neglect and horrible foreign policy decisions (Iraq & Afghanistan).

These kind of initiatives change the face of warfare and the world. The world of tomorrow will be vastly different as these two competing super powers step up their game to dominate one another.

China’s aircraft carriers tipped to team up to target foreign forces aiding Taiwan
    [ul]
  • The Shandong is expected to operate alongside the Liaoning to form a dual-carrier battle group to cut off access to independence forces on the island

  • Beijing considers Taiwan a wayward province that must be unified with the mainland by force, if necessary

  • [ul]
China’s new aircraft carrier is likely to team up with its sister ship to form a dual-carrier battle group to cut off foreign military access to Taiwan during a war, according to a military magazine and defence specialists.

Instead of fighting alone, the Shandong, which was commissioned on Tuesday, would work with the Liaoning, a refitted Soviet Kuznetsov-class vessel, to create a more powerful combination to block US or Japanese vessels from reaching the island if they went to the aid independence-leaning forces on Taiwan, the Beijing-based Naval and Merchant Ships monthly magazine reported on Tuesday.

“[Another major] task of the [battle group’s aircraft] is to stop US long-range bombers from taking off from a naval base in Guam. This would be to prevent American aircraft targeting the PLA’s landing transport formations and Chinese submarines,” it said.

Beijing considers Taiwan a wayward province that must be unified with the mainland by force, if necessary.

In addition to the Liaoning and Shandong, the dual-carrier group will include two Type 055 guided-missile destroyers, the region’s most advanced destroyer; four Type 054 frigates; six guided-missile frigates, as well as one supply ship and three Type 093B nuclear submarines, according to the report.

Hong Kong-based military commentator Song Zhongping said a dual-carrier group would help the People’s Liberation Army extend its combat range from the coast of mainland China to the air-sea domains around Taiwan.

“Blocking the US and Japanese fleets’ access to Taiwan is the PLA’s [main] mission,” Song said.
