Hey OP I was engaged in a 5 year relationship, planning our wedding in 2020, and we broke up on Black Friday two weeks ago. We had different expectations in life where her mother wants the husband to basically provide 100% of the expenses where she wouldn’t lift a finger. She has a career but her mother prodded her to save 100% of it regularly. Her parents bought her a studio in manhattan and she wouldn’t leave it to move in with me unless I found us a place equally nice, and her mother refused to let her sign a lease. Not only that but her mother was calculating how much of a mortgage I can afford based on MY salary alone, whereas it should have been two of us combined, and even my ex-fiancée was willing to contribute. Her mother also asked why I wanted to move her daughter out of manhattan when all I wanted to do was find a place in the suburbs where we could have a family. Feel like a giant fukking weight lifted off my back. Went on my first first-date in 5 years tonight, and life moves on.

You’ll find someone who is right for you, don’t worry.

Well brahs, I just came back from her house. Went over to return some things and pick some of my things up. Of course she guilted me into talking about things instead of just leaving them on the doorstep. She kept saying with time she'd focus more on me and prioritize me more, and how she didn't realize I felt neglected because I didn't communicate it (I did), etc etc. Essentially saying now that she knows it's an issue she'll make an effort to make things better. But I know that's just hogwash, there's no way she'd be able to do that, and I don't want to spend time waiting for that to maybe happen. She cried... a lot. The kind of quiet crying where you can tell they're trying to hold back but just can't. I am now devastated, not because I lost her, but because I saw how much losing me hurt her. I never wanted to do that to her, but it was the right decision, just hurts so damn bad.

You did her and yourself a favor, srs. You saved yourself a lot of time. GJDM

Relationships with modern women are so fragile and likely to fail anyway, I don't know how you start with a megahuge hurdle like that right off the bat. EZ call.

And don't feel too bad. I wouldn't be surprised a bit if she is already lining up multiple dates with Chad for next week.

This. OP are you sure you're not the 5 year old child?

I understand your frustrations and why you would break it off 100%, but I honestly thought this was a troll thread at first based off your explanation, you made yourself sound immature, emotional and butthurt, I lold while reading until I realized you were serious.

Ho-Lee Fuk

Imagine this though - most dudes in your situation would have gone along with it and would still marry this type of gal. People are absolutely retarded when it comes to entering marriages they have no business entering, and we're all surprised as to why divorce is so high.

Part of this thread makes me want to celebrate being FA and never having to deal with this chit.

The other part of me wants to hit up Tinder right now before single moms become my only option in 5 years.

You didn't give her a chance, guess you wanted to get rid of her more than you let on.

She has a kid who will always be first priority and in the middle of absolutely everything. If you aren't 1000% into that, it's a waste of time.

But other than the kid, she's perfect in every way. If I found someone who was perfect in all ways, but had one issue I disliked, I would certainly try to make it work.

I see you're sticking to your guns here, OP, but is this stemming from just the Christmas lights incident?

The other night I went through literally the exact same scenario...only difference being that the daughter was mine and not my GFs...Still all they did was take pictures by the different trees/figures, while I just moseyed along with them.

Point here being...bishes love taking pictures

Op get a fleshlight. You shouldn’t be considering single moms at your age. You shouldn’t be so desperate as to not wait for all of your crucial boxes to be checked. You know god damn well women won’t go all in unless their boxes are checked. Play the game better. If you get lonely jerk off with a fleshlight and go to sleep. You need to be 100% clear headed. OP, you definitely dodged a bullet. I know you said she was perfect in every way but now you're seeing she's clearly not. After you spoke to her about it and she clearly said it's not going to change (which was really harsh, she totally dismissed your feelings and only thought about her own), she's now claiming you never spoke to her about it? She just wants you to stay, she doesn't genuinely feel bad or feel that she was in the wrong. Normally I'm all for giving people second chances, but I'm glad you stuck to your guns.

I find that behavior ugly, and would rather spend time with someone who is very maternal.

To each there own, but my kids would most likely get more of my attention too if I was in that situation.
Yeah there has to be a balance, but I agree that if they were going to lean towards one extreme, I'd rather someone very maternal/paternal. The risk is always there when you date single patents I suppose.

Man she is going to have a bad time in life if she doesn't learn how to set boundaries with her Mom. Good for you man, hope the date went well.

I agree with this. If you're at the point where your child is meeting your "friend" It should be very serious and you should be working on immersing yourself in their family with the end goal of actually being a family. Blows my mind how many of my friends date single moms and meet the kid on the second date or some chit.

You don't want her to feel like like you forced her to "neglect" her child, that could have just turned into resentment down the line. This is better for the both of you. Her giving her child that much attention is 100% understandable and she just needs to find some one who is ok with that. You guys want different things and neither should have to change or compromise this early in a relationship on an issue this important.
