Lifting but been doing that for so long it’s a routine. Same with house projects. Mountain biking and tools are more the “hobbies” at this point. Also shooting / guns.

We used to play a military base team who for obvious reasons had a lot of turnover. I remember one time we played them on their home pitch, they were short 2 players and they literally plucked 2 guys off the sidewalk to play as they were walking by.

I could go on but (I'd imagine) much like the military, there's absolutely no discrimination.


P.S. I have religious in-laws from Arkansas and they are absolutely fascinated by rugby.

Looming is generally pretty easy, you can use the loom to make scarves with yarn too. If you can crochet I'm sure you could do loomigurumi. I'm trying to get into that side of thing but I suck ass at it. All my stupid magic rings to start with look like chit and end up going in the bin before I do anything with it.

Board and card games, I like to find onss that are a bit out there vs ones everyone has and has played a million times (though I do like classics) but I've never played any of the ones that seem quite intensive as I have no one to play them with. My daughter is getting into magic the gathering so guess I'll be learning that soon. I'm enjoying bears vs babies, battle sheep and my old childhood favourite spyweb. Also like to play gin rummy or rummy 500 most days though

As far as being a gamer goes that's not quite the word I'd use lol, it's very casual games, I'm not good at anything that requires me to react quickly rather than think it through. Adventure games etc. Of course I recently picked up untitled goose game too.

It's pretty easy, but being highly productive and safe takes skill. Felling and chainsaw work takes some skill. There's a lot to it, for example I have 6 axes that do different jobs. I like older sci fi, especially Heinlein, PKD. Basically anything before 1990 and preferably around 1960's. Now it's like Hollywood, all PC and lame, hard to believe it went that way.

Thank you. I love to be creative when I sew. Since what I want to make usually doesn’t have a pattern, I can usually draft one myself or use something similar as a guide. I started sewing when I was 8 or 9. My first sewing machine was a kids plastic Singer sewing machine lol. It ran on batteries. I remember seeing it in the Spegal catalog and I got it for Christmas.
Currently I have a Brother sewing machine. Nothing special just a basic model. I also have a four thread overlock Singer Surger. My Brother I got from a coworker. She had asked if I could hem some of her pants for her. At the time the machine I was using was borrowed from my ex mother in-law and it needed to be serviced. My coworker said I could use hers. It was new in the box! I hemmed her pants by first overlocking the edge and then doing a blind hem stitch. She was so happy she gave me the machine. She said she got it to make curtains and ran out of bobbin thread so she packed it up and put it away and never even finished the curtains lol. I offered to show her how to do it and she said she wanted nothing to do with it. I was very appreciative to be gifted the machine. Still runs like a champ.
Nothing is better than home made bread. The hot fresh loaf from the oven smells so good! My favorite to make are the artisan no kneed breads.

Does growing bonsai trees count?

I have killed more than I've been successful with. I love the idea of nurturing and growing something for the rest of my life and potentially giving it to an offspring (if they ever exist) and them doing the same.

Apart from a bit of PC gaming it's just hiking. Hiking is the absolute GOAT for me as well as the travelling that goes with it to get to different places to hike. Great healthy hobby to do together as a couple.

Also I do get some small satisfaction from doing things like maintaining cars, nothing complicated just oil change/brakes etc. Oh also finances, following the markets, buying ETFs and other investments.

So, as I’m contemplating this thread, I really think I should work at the hobbies I already have.

I am not really “good” at any of them, and I don’t do any of them as frequently as I should. I sincerely appreciate your recommendation, but I do feel I should use my resources (time and money) to more appreciate the interests that bit into me naturally. And, thank you for sharing your story as well. Also, not as an excuse or anything, but I am a little broke physically. My doctor would more than likely advise against it.

When someone asks you what you do for fun, what is the average answer? It seems that for a lot of people, it's drinking/partying. If you have a job, there isn't much time to do much outside of exercising/reading/watching TV.

I've recently picked up sewing, along with crochet, knitting, baking bread, before that I had sketching, painting, reading fiction, manga/comics, videogames and watching/reading anything horror related.
Aside from the generic stuff, learning about the physics behind everything. From making food to hair maintenance. It's actually pretty good, allows you to ultra power your usual hobbies since you can now do them more precisely, efficiently and just better lol. Sounds ridiculous, but before long you'd become way better at your hobbies and skills.
