While i agree some blame falls back on the individual, i don't think the full blame should be on him as he is not a lawyer and not in charge of the system nor has he any experience with legal practices.its not about people doing what I did, it's about personal responsibility and taking ownership of your decisions and dealing with them. It's real easy to blame others for your fuk ups but it takes character and grit to admit your own and fix the situation rather than want someone else to foot the bill.
It's simple, 18 year olds know how loans work, you get money and you have to pay it back and then some. That's not rocket science. If they dont get that then its, welcome to real life and adulthood.
But loan forgiveness is simply punishing someone for somebody else's bad decisions. Doing that through taxes and via the government is worse since theres no way around it.

Which brings me to your second point of " an 18 year old understands loans, loands are simple" Flat out, no they are not, most people in America do not know the difference in interest rates when compounded daily, monthly, or annually. Most people just hear a number and a rough estimate of their monthly repayments and go with it. Many 18 year olds also believe the money they will be making post graduating is greater than it actually is . MOST OF ALL, an 18 year old for the most part has NOT experienced paying bills and has never taken a loan out in his life, but you say they should be fully educated on understanding the effects of taking out a 40,000-100,000 loan? Should a person who knows what cancer is understand what it is like to have cancer? should a person who has never been married or had kids understand what it is like to be married or have kids? knowing what loans are does not mean you know what it is like to take out a loan, and 18 year olds should not have the blind power to take out loans that may be effecting them for TWICE the years they have lived on this earth.

Second, a loan is simple in that you know you will have to pay it back, you know they charged interest. The rest is details and if you're signing legal document simply reading it is a good place to start.
On one hand you say they should teach advanced material in HS yet you say they cant understand a loan. Bad news is if you cant understand loans then you're not smart enough to learn higher level subjects.
Lastly these kids want to go to out of state private schools for an experience and to live life, etc. Well that sounds great and theres a price that comes with that too. So pay up for it.

There is no realistic alternative option than going to university. The trades aren't for everyone, especially women. Besides, if everyone started getting into the trades that market would just become oversaturated and a new problem would arise.

Trump has poured historic amounts of money into the economy to make sure the job market continues to roid rage through the rest of his term. We're about as close to full employment as we can possibly get and the growth isn't accruing to Uber drivers.

Three parties involved here.
1. The Student who took out the loan.
2. The BANK that lent the load.
3. The SCHOOL that received money for the education.
It's none of my business. I had no say-so in this whole process.
I didn't take out the loan.
I didn't lend the money to the student.
I didn't not receive the benefits of the education paid for by the loan.
I did not recieve the funds for providing that education.
I did not make any of the decisions nor any benefit.
Not my fault.
Not my responsibility.
NOT MY PROBLEM.
So I'd like one reason why I should pay.
I'm an automotive technician. I have probably at least $60,000 in tools. Not to mention a lot of education and training myself. I have no clue how much I lost losing my ass learning how to do things that didn't pay well. Now I have to pay for some snoody ******* that can't figure out that if you borrow a dollar you have to give it back? Pretty simple concept. Maybe they were never college material in the first place?

I think a lot of people think that because they have a degree, they deserve better. No they don't.Because 18 year olds are taking out 40k loans due to societal pressure and the job market isn't prosperous enough to get all these people a job good enough to pay it back. Not going to school isn't an option these days either.

Besides, we want our society to prosper and we want all of our citizens to be educated. We should find a way to enable our children to get educated in the field of their choosing without it crippling them for the rest of their lives. I don't know if we should pay back their loans, i'm not an economist...but we all live in this same country and if it would benefit our country as a whole to get these kids out of debtandprevent the problem from happening again we should.

18yos have been responsible for decades and people tell them they need a college education but not a worthless one that wont support them as adults. No one tells them to go on spring break or go to an out of state school that's more than double what they could be doing.

If you weren't smart enough to get a full ride scholarship then you don't belong in college period.[/QUOTE]Thats hilarious considering most scholarships nowadays have more to do with how high you are on the "victim/non-priviledged" totem pole than they do with being a good student.
Brb getting a scholarship because of vocaly relating my non-traditional sexual preferences as my only identifying characteristic

Because retards don't understand when they take a loan, terms up front and very clear, that they have to one day...gasp...pay it back (i know, right!)
then some of them leak in to politics OR they want to appeal to all the retards that did this

Going forward it would be reasonable for student loans to have that type of disclosure- interest rate, payment per month, total amount of payments, etc. Throw in average annual salary projection for applicable professions while you are at it because knowledge is power.
And also fair for student debt subject to bankruptcy like any other law.
That might severely decrease the amount of student loan money available, but could also reduce some of the demand for those loans.

Probably the easiest way to avoid debt is to join a reserve branch of the military, go to community college, and then go on to a public 4 year college.
But, back when I was 18, I was going to take out a **** load of student loans to go to college but luckily I got denied and joined the military instead.

If the debt could be cancelled in bankruptcy then the lender would have the incentive to use some type of underwriting standards.
Like not loaning someone $100K for a degree that will only give them the potential to earn $35K a year.

18yos have been responsible for decades and people tell them they need a college education but not a worthless one that wont support them as adults. No one tells them to go on spring break or go to an out of state school that's more than double what they could be doing.

If the debt could be cancelled in bankruptcy then the lender would have the incentive to use some type of underwriting standards.
Like not loaning someone $100K for a degree that will only give them the potential to earn $35K a year.

I've heard people say they NEED to get a degree for the field the WANT. Needs and wants. They took out the loan and listened to the wrong people. I've taken out loans I shouldn't have and listened to the wrong people too. I had to deal with the consequences of this. Live and learn. I think a lot of people think that because they have a degree, they deserve better. No they don't.

College grads who already PAID loans off
Tradies who didn't ask for chit
Other poorcells
To pay loans to a group of people, who according to the poster at my high school guaidance councelor's office-"on average make a million dollars more over their lifetime than a high school grad."
The deep unfairness of this crap is even more galling when you listen to the college grad morans explain how they are entitled to this crap. Fuk them. Go to work and shut up. You think you are owed this because you haven't fukkin worked 60 hours a week. There are people....who couldn't afford it, and decided to skip college-these people are denied the opportunity twice if college loans are paid off. Lol-yes, let's all pitch in to help the group of people most prepared to make good money. Sense this makes=none.

That being said, i didnt take out a loan. Im pretty sure i could have but i didnt

Amazing answer that left me speechless one time was a gradated student with a Masters told me that well educated people DESERVE to live a good life and shouldn't have to be held back by student loan payments keeping them from what they deserve.

I don't know if we should pay back their loans, i'm not an economist...but we all live in this same country and if it would benefit our country as a whole to get these kids out of debtandprevent the problem from happening again we should.

Are you saying that there should be a collective responsibility for the actions of individuals who are making lots of individual money? Who is this "we" we're talking about because it's certainly not me. Its people with the cushy finance jobs who make six figures a year dolling them out. I am not charging the 18 year old absorbent tuition fees to indoctrinate them for 4 years instead of teaching them what they need to survive.
How about a 92% tax on university profits? Force them to pay professors standard teacher salaries, which they should be fine with since they believe in socialism equality. How about allowing people to roll their student loans in with a bankruptcy like any other debt?

The only extra curricular activities that you can really get scholarships for are sports, but spend some time around student athletes in college and youll realize most are prioritizing their sport over their stuidies. And the ones that do take it seriously dont take hard majors.
Other scholarships are there if your family is poor, or youre a woman or minority.
When your labmate is getting 1.5x the grad student stipend that you are simply because he is of Hispanic decent, come talk.

I don't think student loans should be paid by taxes... However, both private and public universities/colleges are becoming so commercialized nowadays. Tuition fees are going up, newly edited textbooks are going up and new courses and no name "institutions" are popping up while the job market is becoming increasingly competitive. I hear ads on radio all the time about colleges for business degrees in marketing, accounting, finance and even management and I can't help but think some high school students are going to take the bait. I mean, do any of accounting graduates from joe blow technical institute going to land a job in their preferred field in positions with salaries that sustain their costs of living?
Universities are like an ever growing bureaucracy, and I don't actually mean this in a negative way at all because some oversight is needed to help this generation of students but do I think the people with the most power and influence on how everything is structured really that in tune with the direction of the youth, or are they more concerned about the bottom line and the profits they make? Who knows?

College would be more affordable if they simply cut out the gen ed and "well rounded" **** thats opposite of your major.
No reason a person majoring in STEM should have to take some SJW humanities classes.
I would have rather used that time to take on higher level math/physics/ comp sci courses
