My uncle died of a massive heart attack at 44 a few weeks ago, don’t hear people harping on about cholesterol on the daily. The frenzy over this virus is absurd.
But it's not really equivalent. You aren't exposed to cholesterol because the dude next to you on the bus is eating a cheeseburger. We teach people CPR all over the place and there are massive movements to put AED's in more public places. But heart attacks don't spread exponentially through the country and your risk can be greatly reduced by making diet and lifestyle choices. The only thing you can do to protect yourself from the virus is to isolate yourself.

Heart disease takes 1,774 American lives a day.
COVID-19 today will take around 1,100 American lives WITH lockdowns in place. Now you add in competition for lifesaving equipment?
Unregulated, COVID-19 objectively has the potential to kill more Americans in one day than heart disease, cancer, and car accidents. It's simple math with the growth rate.

As an update: My uncle is now in an ICU on a ventilator. He also apparently has not eaten in 3 days because of this.
Barring a miracle he's going to die. His daughter is never going to be able to talk to him ever again. When the number of deaths goes up in Michigan tomorrow my aunt is going to be one of those numbers.
Sometime in the next week or so my uncle is going to be one of them.
Take a look at those numbers again and keep in mind that every single one of those deaths is someones father/mother/uncle/aunt/brother/sister. Many of them would've lived many many more years. Their lives matter.
They are just another boomer. They are human beings are their lives have meaning. They aren't all old people either. Young people have died as well. Young people with perfectly manageable conditions who had their entire lives ahead of them are dead and sitting in a freezer truck as I type this. This is real.

I'm sorry OP, lost two family members to it so far myself (both lived in Spain). Though its indisputable that if we don't do something about this business lockdown, we will enter a recession/depression that will kill ten-fold the number of people the virus will. We have to find a balance here. I cannot offer any input beyond that, unfortunately.

I'm sorry for your loss OP.
Just announcing local deaths on the nightly news here. One was a younger woman from the city I'm living in with no underlying health conditions.
Detroit Metro is getting hit hard. Read that hospitals are sending people home as much as they can to avoid being over run.
Saw that a 1,000 bed temporary hospital was being constructed at Cobo Center in Detroit and another 500 bed temporary hospital in Ann Arbor.

You've got to be a real ornery, bitter, and self-centered brah to look at this thread and say "tHeY wOuLd HavE dIeD aNyWaY!"
Fuk outta here.
People are dying that shouldn't be dead. There are people who are 45 years old, being hospitalized for COVID19. I'm not a fear monger by any means, I think that for most of us the symptoms would be mild.
But 45 years old is no time to die. And at 65 (which is the most affected demographic), you should be RETIRING.Imagine busting your ass for 40+ years getting ready for retirement, only to die because "of a flu".
Everybody that has died was somebody else's relative, husband, wife, friend.
Come on bros, have a little fukkin' respect.

Regardless of how you, or I feel, there must be some reason why our government supported taking that risk. Shouldn't we take that into, at least, some consideration?

Listen OP, I’m sorry you’ve lost people.
But that’s just how life works. Eventually your ass and my ass will die too. Whether from COVID or some other dumb f*cking sh*t or even just old age.
Stop feeling sorry for yourself. Maybe remember all the good time those people did have before going instead of being a negative whiny little f*ck about how unfair it all is.
It’s plenty fair. Because everybody dies. People saying they had “plenty of life left to live”.... well no they didn’t or they’d be alive.
We don’t all die from old age asleep in our beds at home. In fact most of us don’t. We die exactly from sh*t like this.
Stop sobbing and live your life to the fullest so when you go there’s no reason for anyone to cry because you made the most of every moment

"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

Sorry the medical industry has failed your family by being completely unprepared. I wouldn't put the blame on people for living their lives however. I don't think that's fair.
