(there won't be an answer given for this, by you, me, or anyone ITT). This is the great thing about math- it is the great humbler. All talks about intelligence, high IQ, or whatever are immediately thrown out the window with even a simply stated problem like the above.

As to the OP, a flavor of what is considered an interesting problem in math vs what is not:

Not interesting: what is 674x1137
Not interesting: what is the partial derivative of 6x^2+7xy with respect to x. (bringing this up because someone upthread mentioned calc 3).
Interesting: Is it always possible to color a map of contiguous regions with 6 colors, such that no two neighboring regions that share a border are the same color? (the answer is yes. Actually it's yes for 4 colors....but forget about that proof).

I mean if you want hard problems to solve, have at it, there is no shortage. Intelligence as concept is pretty silly though. People way overrate it on this board.

Don’t agree with this. Makes more sense to think of intelligence in terms of inquisitiveness.

Trying to place yourself on some spatial/verbal/mathematical spectrum is daft and unintelligent.

Subjects that I have been inquisitive about, like engineering, music, interpersonal, correlate to my intelligence abilities.

Inquisitiveness comes first.

(Savant type abilities are an exception to this)

What do you mean by “super overrated”?
If you have a low IQ you’re going no where. It may be overrated in the sense that marginal difference at certain levels doesn’t matter much. Ie someone with an IQ of 120 can achieve a lot more than someone with an IQ of 125, when the former is more ambitious, conscientious etc. However, if your IQ is 90 the story is quite different.

How are u measuring intelligence though, IQ/brain power?
Intelligence is generally about acquiring knowledge and applying skills, you could in theory have an IQ of 150 without any desire to acquire knowledge or apply skills, are you therefore more intelligent than someone with 110 IQ who does the latter?

Doing math in your head is very much a matter of training. Back in the days when I had a braindead job I had a period where I'd do equations in my head like 4^7, then do factorization on the answer. Now my head is totally out of training on that kind of work, however it works great on solving other logical problems like programming.

Just spent a good hour on this problem. Rip Collatz conjencture. didn't realise it was unsolvable at the present moment.

I actually did that in my head within seconds. I was told my neurologists that i have above average basic math skills like that. (srs). I'm not perfect, because i lack in some other motor functions but think looking at analytics for ages and stuff like that made me tons better at that. things like 5%'s are easy to get because 10% is super easy to get so you get 10% added or what have you then you chop that in half. if that makes sense. i didn't randomly go get tested, this was after a brain injury and they were measuring my mental *******ry after the fact.

They did tests on me in university. Something about cognitive function after abstaining from cigarettes for "a significant period of time". My cognitive function came back at genius level.

Unfortunately cognitive function is just one aspect of IQ.

Does anyone else do math by like breaking it into small easily multiplied numbers and adding them all together? Like 1550 x 300 would be 1000 x 300 + 500 x 300 + 50 x 300 = 465,000.
Same with percentages.
